I closed my eyes and let the music play and I swear I was able to revisit my old room and see every detail. The stain on the rug where my parents would tell me not to bring soda, my old desk, my bed with Batman sheets. It’s amazing how music brings back memories that you thought were forgotten. By the way I have goosebumps while typing this and mix emotions

Genesis Model 1 Rips, baby. The Sound Quality in that version of the console it's miles away from the downgraded sound chip in the cheaper Model 2 Genesis, which it's the one most commonly used to rip these tracks.

I am passing through in a really bad period of my life and I put it yesterday while sleeping because I couldn’t sleep and I was in tears and I fell asleep I don’t even know when. I cried a lot at the first stages while listening. I will do this night again. Thanks a lot to post it!!

Por mais eu tenha nascido em 2005, e vá fazer 16 anos esse ano, quando eu comprei e joguei o sonic mania e sonic mania plus ( por volta de 2017 e 2019 ) quando eu escutei aqueles remixes das músicas originais, eu juro que eu não tô exagerando, eu chorei de tanta felicidade quando eu ouvi os remixes da chemical plant zone act1 e act2. Eu posso não ter vivido a época do sonic 1 ou sonic 2, mas por algum motivo, sonic mania me fez sentir uma nostalgia de gigantesca!

I really appreciate how you've put both the NTSC and PAL versions of the themes on here. Growing up playing these in the UK in the 90s I was amazed years later when I found out all the themes were actually meant to be played a fraction faster than what I knew.
I'll never forget the magic of renting a genesis with this game. It was such a leap above the NES.

Thank you for including the 50hz PAL version. I know Americans and Japanese probably think it sounds too slow, but it actually sounds right to me. The 60hz versions sound too rushed for me, but I guess it ultimately comes down to what you grew up with and are used to

No idea why, but over the years, Scrap Brain Zone's soundtrack has become my favourite.
Reminds me of when I was at college the first time around when I was playing Sonic heavily, practically every day. I was 19 at the time and already had a history of arcade gaming and playing on the first consoles. So, of course, when a game like Sonic came on the scene, it was inevitably going to be addicted to it. Another one of my favourite tracks is the special stage... so zany.

I played PAL and I got used to it, whenever I hear NTSC soundtrack I am like slow down a bit! lol
I grew up with NTSC. Pal to me sounds like a slowed down version, as if I am listening to the NTSC track with slower playback speed on the youtube video lol. I can follow it better though. Currently working on a track (Green Hill Zone). I am ready for the Sonic movie. I really hope the track is in the movie. I heard it a bit in the trailer.

Why does pal sound stretched though? Like a lot of the drums sound timestretcher. Surely it should just play the sample and it should sound fine
@Geeeee8 Because a lot of those older consoles set their speed based off the frequency of the power (60hz in NTSC countries, 50Hz in PAL) and a lot of audio chips used a fixed data buffer. Not sure on the Genesis specifically, but usually the hardware gives the audio chip a tiny chunk of sound to play, which may be sampled but still has a fixed size, and it will play and then hold that sound until a new chunk is given. If the game loads the next bit of sound every frame, that means it will update 60 times a second in NTSC countries, and 50 times for PAL, but it still uses the same sized chunks. That means PAL ends up being 20% slower in loading the next chunk of sound, causing there to be gaps where the audio chip has finished playing the last chunk and has to wait to get a new one, where it just holds the sound for a fraction of a second longer than in 60Hz. This ends up stretching everything out, slowing the whole thing down and sometimes giving it a weird tone.

30 years ago today, Sonic The Hedgehog was released in North America. I have been playing this game since before I can even remember, and still consider this one of the best soundtracks in the history of gaming. Thank you for uploading this. Still sounding amazing!
After having loved the music from this game in the early 90s, it's no wonder that years later, Dreams Come True became my favorite Japanese band.

The name of the level on 7:30 (my favourite soundtrack from this game) has been translated into Russian (I played in this version as a child) as "Trap zone". I would be more glad if they translated it as "Scrap brain zone"...

Wow, never knew there was such a speed difference between the NTSC and PAL versions in terms of the soundtrack. I had the PAL version living in The Netherlands and when I clicked this video I immediately thought "it wasn't just Sonic himself having the need for speed!" :P.
This music is just as familiar to me as like…jingle bells. I can place the sound effects to, the jumping, the pinball sounds,gasping for air, shifting floors,etc. God this takes me back and I love it !

PAL version of Green Hill Zone already sounds awful in RUclips. I didn't slow it down, but the music is broken as if RUclips slowed it down with its Playback Speed settings. Living in the PAL world, this made me a bit sad. This reminds me of older generations dreaming of moving to the NTSC world where the government was not that brutal as in PAL...
