Protoman's uncharged shots are easily the largest, his beat shield is really useful and dash is just right, no gimmicks. I wish Capcom made more than 2 of these games.

Sturdy rocks are commonly destroyed with extreme blunt force like explosives as cutting forces are somewhat harder to use. In fact, Guts Man was created as a civil engineer robot for construction and Bomb Man it's for demolitions, and dynamite it's common material to bring down buildings and rocks.
What version you playing? One of the bonus ones which are deadlocked at medium or a mame emulation with the arcade switches and what's the difficulty set to?
You know... I never really got why AirMan blows you away from him (during the first half of the battle)... it's not like there's anything to hit you (besides in your case, the Pipi), and he can't blow off the screen/edge... Usually he's long gone by then, but that's the first time I've seen him use the Junk Shield! Ha. He's pretty lame in this game, though. Just be glad you had the Beat Shield during that... uh... "vertical" Air Shooter "pattern."
