My husband and I are retired and slow travel. We are really enjoying the lifestyle so far. We also book for 28 days to get those great discounts and to stay within the visa requirements and give ourselves that little cushion in case of flight cancellations as you never know what could happen and we don’t want to exceed our 30 days or 90 days. Great video and I look forward to following your journeys.
@@ahjacobs1967 That was our thinking also. We thought if we left ourselves a six day cushion at the end of our time in any area where we were allowed to stay for 90 days, we should be okay. This is the first time we’ve ever received the discount associated with 28 days… We are definitely liking those! 😂🎉
Glad my wife came across your video, we too have started our slow travel retirement lifestyle. We started in April with a transatlantic cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Rome. We too looked at the first month as vacation mode and I knew we would go over our budget but in the long run the costs have come down. We are currently in Montenegro since we spend three months in Italy & Croatia. Looking forward to following your adventures
@@markandannette Hi Mark! I am glad you found us too! We have this whole year planned out, but we are at the initial stages of planning for the summer of 2025 and beyond. We are looking at Italy and Greece for 90 days and then we were thinking of Turkey for our time outside of the Schengen zone. But, due to some restrictions and increased costs on their Airbnbs, we were looking for an alternative. I’d love to hear what you think about Montenegro. Actually, we’d love to follow along on your whole trip. 😊 Are you on Facebook or Instagram? If so we’d love to follow you.
I hit send too quickly, to answer your question Montenegro is absolutely a country to put on your list, Kotor is beautiful have been here almost 28 days, we leave tomorrow for Žabaljak in the mountains of Montenegro to escape the heat and enjoy nature. We love the outdoors
Y'all look great! Thanks for the update on your plans. Love the details you provide and the delineation between vacation and slow travel. Great video. 😊
Hey you 2! I am 45 and still a couple of years away from full time slow travel so I guess I will just live through you guys, lol. I think your budget of $5,000 is a very comfortable budget. Look forward to seeing your content! I like that strategy of vacationing into your slow travel, hahaha.
Hi! I'm excited to have found your channel and get to see this evolve from the beginning! We're in Texas, getting our last little one through college. We are 48 & 52 yrs old and LOVE to travel. Full time slow travel is our new retirement goal! Best wishes on your journey and thank you for sharing your experience.
Great video Rick & Daphne, very well done! Lots of quality info and especially found the exact budget and planning information helpful as we are only 2.5 years from starting our full time slow travels. Subscribed (#199!) and looking forward to watching your future videos - happy and safe travels to you both! Oliver & Bobbie
Hi Oliver and Bobbie! Thank you for your kind words. We really appreciate it! The 2.5 years will fly by and the anticipation is exciting and part of the fun! #199 - WooHoo!! 🥂
Just found your channel. Congratulations. It's good to find another slow travel channel with a larger monthly budget. Will be sure to check out a few other videos. Do you have a video about how you decide on which regions to travel to in a year?
@@LiveandGoWander Glad to! We have stayed very basic because so many things are new for us right now. We are using the free version of CapCut and it is very simple and easy. We may graduate to something more sophisticated as we get better, but for right now this is just our speed!
Will you be linking you Airbnb places in future videos ? Love the video, feel like as a couple we can relate - similar ages, similar standard of living/accom expectations. Will be interesting to see how you go on the whole slow travel thing, I feel like we may get bored in the one place for a month, we do like to explore/daytrip/long walks ...
Yes! If we like the Airbnb enough to stay in it again, we will link it. We were worried about boredom also. We are only one month in, but so far - it's been great! We are not bored at all. Although, we do anticipate that there will be some days that we get bored and we have told each other that we will have to be okay with that. We had days we were bored at home too. Of course, that is easier said than done. We are going to try our best. :)
Fun! But def. Not budget slow travel yet! Will stay tuned! Daphne, what brand model number and color are your eyeglasses? I really like them. Safe travels! Thank you.
No. Not budget yet! 😂 My glasses are very budget though, they are from a 3 pack of readers I got at TJ Maxx. I like them better than my prescription glasses.
Those ones automatically showed up on the listing. With the discounts being so generous automatically, I didn’t feel like I could or should ask for more. The one in Lisbon had the smallest discount but it was also good rate. So for these ones I didn’t ask beyond what was given right away through the listing. I am definitely not above asking for an additional discount though. 😂
@@RetiredNomadAdventures I’m like that too…if it’s fair and I can afford it, I don’t ask. Usually I ask if it seems overpriced, undiscounted, or I really, really want it but it’s too expensive🤣. Well done! Gives me hope for Portugal!
Thank you Sarah! We have already set off. We are several weeks into our Nomad Adventure. Next week's video will be the first one where we are actually traveling. 🧳 Thanks for the kind words and we are loving your videos!!
I am always curious how these budgets are determined. If you are retired without employment income I assume your present age is factored in based on life expectancy and your net worth and investment income. If you are employed I would assume you spend your entire income monthly or less and save for retirement. I retired in my "late" in my 60's having traveled extensively since my 30's and am currently slow traveling. Our "budget" is run out of money at 100. Satistics show U.S. citizens make their greatest income from 55-65 which we did. Is your plan to live on $5k per month for the rest of your life or bailout of slow travel in a few years and settle some where permenently? Quanlity of life during retirement versus quantity of retirement years spent traveling on between $4-$5k was my concern, I opted for the latter and have never looked back. Good luck with your chose plan.
Yes! Budget, when to retire, traveling and making sure money lasts are all huge factors to be considered. We really liked the motto that we have Go-Go Years, Slow-Go Years and No-Go Years. We don't know how long we will do this slow travel for, but we are committed for at least 2 years and hopefully beyond. I am glad to hear that you are happy with your choice and have never looked back! It is encouraging!
).@@RetiredNomadAdventures Now I get it. We will stop once our physical limitations make it too uncomfortable move every 90-180 days or so then we will move to Arizona like everyone else ;}
You need to lose the fixation with staying in 'downtown' locations when it comes to European cities. Firstly, it is a fairly meaningless term. However, the very centre of Dublin, London, etc are much more expensive than further out... And public transport will allow you to venture to the centre in about 20 minutes...
Your travel plans sound wonderful but they are neither budget nor slow travel. You might want to watch more RUclips videos to see how other couples manage slow travel (30+ days per location) on a budget (typically under $4000 for 2 people). Usually not high-season either.
There are no rules for slow travel, lol. Most slow travelers stay for about 27-28 days per country because they don’t want to overstay a 30 day visa. That sounds exactly like what they are doing outside of their vacation time. There’s also not a rule about how much money you can spend. If they claimed they were “budget slow travelers,“ you might have a point, but I didn’t hear that.
I agree with Linda. I also thought that your plans are NOT budget travel when you said $5000 per month. That is $60,000 p.a. Other Full-time and slow travellers budget less than $40,000 per year and some as low as $25,000 per year. It will be difficult to get budget living in Western Europe, although it will certainly seem low cost compared to the USA. Many people have said that it was only when they left the USA, that they realised how expensive it was to live there compared to many places around the world. It will be much more budget-friendly in SE Asia. I will be interested to see what you think of AirBnB. Several travel RUclipsrs are commenting that they are moving away from using AirBnB. It will be interesting to see how your style of travel develops.
@@margiedenavarre7919 I agree with you. I appreciate watching someone that doesn’t have a smaller budget. There are a lot of lower budget channels, but I enjoy seeing a variety.
