This was amazing information especially the buying points detail! I just checked my Hilton card and couldn’t believe how cheap it was and they have a current promo that you get 100% of what you buy, min 5000. Went from having 10,000 pts to 30,000 for 100.00 and my purchase earns me 3%. WOW!
Important safety tip. When you go after a new credit card in search of points make sure you pay attention to the required spend to earn the points. My gf and I refer each other Chase cards several times a year to earn referral points as well but we only do it when we know we have a big spend on the horizon to meet the requirement.
Repositioning cruises are a great way to travel the world, if you have the time. One consideration for transatlantic cruises is that there are fewer Atlantic storms in the Spring, compared to the Fall. The prices you mention are for interior cabins, but repositioning cruises have bargains on all cabin classes. Personally, we prefer balcony cabins for the daylight, sunsets, and the fresh air. We're kicking off 2025 with a 16 day Panama canal cruise (Los Angeles to Miami).
I recently stayed at Hyatt Kanazawa, and it was great ! just FYI, Kanazawa in January is cold and wet. Not my favorite time to visit Japan. But you can get really good winter season seafood!
We use transatlantic cruises to get back and forth from Europe and just love that way of traveling. Always excited to see other folks have figured this out. We are on Allure in February!
Thanks for the info. my wife just got on the computer and started looking at Bali. we love using our points to get great deals and enjoy repositioning cruises as well.
At first blush, that one to Sydney, Australia looks amazing - especially considering i live near Seattle...But then, how on earth to get HOME? the costs must be so high?!
Hey I’m up in Bellingham! These look like great ideas! If you are young, there are active seniors that have the money and points to take a companion, as a nurse I was looking into that but apparently I’m a catch and married a Dr I worked with, now we are both retired early! Good luck.
I've now done 3 transatlantic cruise and have another in November. Also booked a transpacific for next April, and will likely do a transatlantic again next October. There are many to choose from. By coincidence, I also booked the HH in Kanazawa for a couple of days before our cruise, and the Hyatt in Yokohama near the cruise port for the last night.
If time permits, transatlantic cruises can be a great option to travel to/from the US from Europe. We're doing back-to-back cruises on Celebrity Constellation next Fall; an 11-night Croatia/Italy cruise followed by a 16-night transatlantic back to Tampa. The 16-night cruise is considerably cheaper than the 11-night cruise.
I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to have found your you tube channels! My husband and I are retired (not exactly young) - have never traveled as my husband has been reluctant. He is now ready to indulge me and I need to learn how to navigate my travel desire with our retirement budget! haha A lot of what you say still sounds greek to me but I am anxious to learn -- definitely going to talk to hubby about joining your channel! Thank you so much - you guys are wonderful!
Julia , your situation sounds a lot like ours. I have jumped on board and we will be traveling Asia this coming January. Good luck on your travel planning.
This is the first time that I’ve heard about these long cruises. Sending into my wife we fortunately have nearly 1,000,000 points with American Express. I think we need a vacation.
Allure of the Seas is heading to Europe in 2025 for a much needed dry-dock. She was due for it in 2020 but it was postponed due to the pandemic. It is very possible that some of the work may be started on the Transatlantic.
I have watched almost every one of your Grounded Travel videos because I love traveling on the train. Alas, I got interested in this kind of travel too late for me. I’m in my 80s and I have three serious physical problems so I just enjoy watching now. I do tell friends about your shows and what you have available. It’s still exciting just being a voyeur.
I couldn't share an inside cabin with husband for the length of a repositioning ctuise. I like the idea of one but would have to pay substantially more for a balcony cabin.
Repositioning cruise sounds ki d of i teresting. O e you mentioned from Florida to Spain in February makes me think of cold weather and winter seas. As a retired sailor crossings are generally more comfortable in May or June. Cruisers should anticipate being inside quite a bit. Also I think I read the Maldives rate does not include the $130 USD Resort fee per day. So that plus $150 is $280 USD per day plus tax.
Some really good tips in your video. Yes the Grand Hyatt Bali is a steal booking with points. We stayed there last March for 5000 points a night and were upgraded to the executive suite. BTW we were Explorist and not top tiered Globalists. They have since upped it to 6500 points a night which is still a great use of points. It was the nicest room we have stayed in and it also included the amazing club lounge overlooking the lagoon. We got free breakfast buffet and evening hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. I highly recommend staying here when in Bali.
Did you have to pay daily resort fees or daily amenities fees on top of points? Quite a few IHG properties add on these extra fees to your total stay which can really add up.
I recently met a nice gentleman (Ollie) while waiting in line at a currency exchange booth in Florida. I told him about your "Grounded Life" RUclips channels, and he was anxious to check them out. I hope he finds his way here!
While repositioning cruises are an excellent deal...there are additional costs such as tipping, a drink now and then, etc. And while you won't spend much time in your room, you do want something that will be relatively quiet to enable sleep when you need it.
Great content and thanks for the information. I just wondered how you found out about the repositioning cruises, is there a website you can use to find these. I am doing a repositioning cruise from UK to the carribean in November with MSC which was a great deal too, but just stumbled across that one by accident.
Cruising makes total senses because you have all those days of free rooms and food vs the drudgery of flying . So you get home quick , but are on the hook for 7 days of lodging, food, ect.
The Celebrity Cruise has a deceiving tactics. I was trying to book the same Celebrity Constellations itinerary (Transatlantic Repositioning Tampa-Rome April 2025). There are 2 inside cabins and I selected the Prime at $865.00 per person with 75% off for 2nd person. To my surprised the room charge was not $865 but $1038.00 for first and $259.00 for 2nd person. I called Celebrity and the person cannot explained why the price was not $865.00 … very disappointed.
Hello lovely couple. I bit the bullet and will be in the Tampa-Rome April 2025. Hope to see you there! I will be in the Philippines and other Asian countries this October till December. If you are still in Asia maybe we can set a meetup. 🎉
@@shellbrisc Quantum of the Seas, RC. It’s 9/30 - 10/15. I found the deal around early to mid June. It’s a guaranteed, inside cabin. But for the price, we’re willing to take the chance.

Enjoy your videos, great info and all. I have a question on using IHG points for stays at premium hotels, etc. It seems that whenever I shop for a points deal on an IHG property, I see other fees including daily resort fee or daily facilities fee which ca really add up to a costly stay for a few days or longer. How are you able to avoid these fees? I've seen that some of the places you've looked at may have lower points per nightly stay but the small print shows daily resort fees excluded (the IHG in the Malidives has a daily amenity fee of $130+ USD per person, that's steep!) Thanks in advance.
Hi Rob, Watching your current video on the cruise line for $764 from Florida to Rome. It's a great deal until I called them. They wanted to tack on an additional $500 for gratuities $250 each. The grand total was just over $2,000. I know they charge for gratuities but that was ridiculous I thought . I found a cruise from Florida to Barcelona for $550PP might consider that one. The gratuities were 300$ It's on MCS cruislines. That will keep us on budget. Love all the info you provide and thankyou! Bill and Jenn
This might be a dumb question but what is the math to figure out if the points you're buying is a good deal? How do you determine how much a point is worth?
I am not a fan of Celebrity. I like my shorts in the MDR for dinner. I do NCL. I aim for $50/night as a solo cruiser. Are you aware of NCL and their CruiseNext certificates? 50% off the cost of them. Just got my 140k points from IHG. On to my next card!

Hi and Good Morning from steamy Ocala, Florida. Found your channels a little over a month ago and have been binging on them (especially Amtrak and more recently retirement travel) as time permits. Thanks for all the great info shared in an entertaining and enjoyable way! Usually watch from TV so other than like and subscribing (which we have done to three of your channels) haven't commented before. I have a question from a video on traveling Europe. You stated can only spend 90 in 180 days in Europe with a few exceptions. Two mentioned were the UK and Ireland which don't count towards the 90-day rule of Europe. When referencing Ireland did you mean the Irish Republic which is still part of EU (i believe) or Northern Ireland which is part of UK. I ask because we are looking into an extended stay in the Irish Republic with side travels to other European countries and don't want to hit any overstaying issues due to time in Irish Republic. Appreciate if you could clarify! Thanks in advance for your reply and thanks again for the great channels!
Another thought on the free food and lodging is this- I f you are someplace on land during the 14 days you could be spending money for excursions, entertainment, ect. Just be careful because it's easy to spend extra money on the repositioning cruise as well.

Thank you for sharing. There's no way in heck I would do a transatlantic cruise on the mainstream cruise lines. Specifically the transpacific. The problem with the transpacific is they just race across the Pacific with minimal or no stops. Compared a high-end cruise line such as silver sea, or Seaborn it's pretty dramatic. Why would I say that? If I'm going from the West Coast to Australia I want to go to every option. There is Tahiti Bora Bora, Hawaii, as well as the coast of Australia, including cairns, Brisbane, as well as Sydney. Also, cash rates are absolutely refundable! I travel all the time with Marriott and Hilton and have never had an issue. They refundable up to 24 hours prior to arrival. In fact, I'm headed to Australia and New Zealand staying at the Marriott Marquis and Marriott downtown Sydney using standard credit card with best deals. Payment is not due until arrival and refunds are allotted up to 24 hours prior.
Love you guys! I’m going on the Hyatt app and IHG searching for the same hotel and dates you are. For some reason I’m coming up with different point amounts. Why would that be?
Would love to have tips on good deals in the USA as my wife will not travel internationally ( and no cruises as she gets seasick and will not go again.)

Payment is not due until arrival and refunds are allotted up to 24 hours prior.
I’m not seeing the IHG link for buying points
Just added them to the description
Excellent info again! Thank you!
Our pleasure!
Love you guys! I’m going on the Hyatt app and IHG searching for the same hotel and dates you are. For some reason I’m coming up with different point amounts. Why would that be?
If you don't have the ihg credit card the price will be higher
@@GroundedLifeRetirementTravelThat’s the thing, I do have the CC
So do points expire?😊How much per year do you spend buying points?😊
That Maldives deal........THANK YOU🙏
We really have our eye on that one!
I don’t see that price for the Maldives, which dates are you searching for?
I want to do a repositioning cruise.
Hilton is on sale now with 100% match...
Thanks! We hadn't seen that yet, appreciate it
GREAT CONTENT
Would love to have tips on good deals in the USA as my wife will not travel internationally ( and no cruises as she gets seasick and will not go again.)
Sorry to ask this. Is the $1,552 per person or for 2 people
Please add the links to purchase points.
Just added!
Thank you!
Can I travel, as a female solo?
These deals are great for couples
But what about us solo cruisers we have to pay double 😢
DEALS my favorite word but better cause it’s plural!
And entertainment!
Do you guys choose port or starboard? Or don’t care? Mid ship? Or purely price based?
Usually whatever will face north the longest so we are away from the sun
How do you get home?
Awesome.
