ABOUT THE GOOD PLACE
From creator Michael Schur (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Master of None”) comes a unique comedy about what makes a good person. The show follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell, “House of Lies,” “Veronica Mars”), an ordinary woman who enters the afterlife, and thanks to some kind of error, is sent to the Good Place instead of the Bad Place (which is definitely where she belongs). While hiding in plain sight from Good Place Architect Michael (Ted Danson - “Cheers,” “CSI” - in an Emmy Award-nominated performance), she’s determined to shed her old way of living and earn her spot.

The dot over the i is possibly my favourite joke in the entire show
It's brilliant and hysterical. My favorite moment as well.
And Chidi , saying " this , this broke me .... , im done "
Or ever. Like Hall of Joke Fame level
I dont get it?
Same
People assume that time a strict progression of cause and effect. But actually from a non linear, non subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of Jeremy Bearimy, Timey Wimey, stuff.
Or maybe, the principle of causality has no bearing in the afterlife. Turning all events that came to be into isolated bootstrap paradoxes

Just noticed that The Good Place does that same little musical rattle that Red Dead Redemption has in the background music
I've never understood the response "Not if I see you first."
Like, why? Are you gonna run away once you spot them?
Anyone notice the switch between what he started drawing compared to the one he showed afterwards? (Look at the shape of the "J").
Also, just before the reveal of "Jeremy Bearimy", you see he was "drawing" with wrong end of the marker 😀

"It's... It's... Jeremy Bearimy. I don't know what to tell you." Perfect.
I was looking for this comment. Theres much funniness here but his delivery on that line is where I lose it every time.
It really *is* quite self-evident, really. Real intuitive stuff.
Cracks me up every time😂
“that’s the EASIEST way to describe it”
i mean it's kind of like trying to explain that the past doesn't happen in the future, like you literally can't explain linear time in any other way than just defining it, so this was so clever of them to just go "yeah it's a complex loop tbh"
Chidi's "I'm _done"_ was funnier than it had any right to be. His delivery of lines like that is always my favourite of the whole cast. It's so real.

This episode is key to something Chidi mentions in the tearful episode ""Pandemonium", just before Michael reboots him, Chidi says to Eleanor, "Time means nothing. Jeremy Bearimy, baby. We'll just get through this and then you and I can chill out in the dot of the I forever." I believe that the "the dot over the I" is where they go when they walk through the final door in the finale. They make a good gag of it here, but it's a pretty fascinating concept. We tend to assume that time in Life and the Afterlife are the same, and that one goes to, let's say "Heaven", and then can look down on Earth and watch what's going on there in concurrent real time. But there's no reason it has to be that way, and the timelines could be completely separate. One could arrive in Heaven to find that the entire Life timeline is complete and viewable from beginning to end. Which would mean that not only would your ancestors be in Heaven, but your descendants as well. Spooky!
But how does changing the course of events on Earth make sense? Does Michael start a new timeline?
Imbra Kim
Yes he does.

I don't know that there is an afterlife, but I suspect that if there is it's actual some sort of other dimension that we can't sense or understand at this time. Like how light can be a wave and a particle simultaneously, or other weird physics stuff that breaks your brain when you try to understand it. I'm sure what we know of the universe is a tiny little sliver of what's actually out there.
I laughed harder at this than I have at anything in a long time. It's Douglas Adams level writing.

The thing that really bothers me? I can't see where the line he drew ends and connects to the beginning. AFAICT he drew a superhumanly perfect continuous loop with that marker.
I was JUST thinking that.
Well I mean he's not human
I'm guessing between the y in Jeremy and the B in Bearamy? There's kind of an abrupt turn that looks like it was connected only at the end
Apologies to bubble burst but the J we see in the complete Jeremy Bearimy isn't the same one Danson starts writing. It's a noticeably different shape.
Chidi's reaction is literally me every day at uni.
They focused on the dot so much that I think it'll come into play later in the season. Like if its a time period that they can hide in the afterlife or something. Just a theory
and the fact Chidi references it to Eleanor in the s3 finale.... hmmmm
Where and when?
The door in the good place leads to the dot because in their universe you can't end your existence so the only way to really die is going where nothing occurs
@@mani_stud All the time and also never
If Jeremy Bearimy breaks down due to a paradox, the dot, being separate from that timeline, will be the only unaffected area, thus making it a "period" of time.
i always thought of the i’s dot was the beginning of the universe. like “a long time ago- actually, never, and also now, nothing is nowhere. when? never.”

Yes, this scene reminded me of Douglas Adams too (Can't speak of Patchett). Well in fact not just this scene but the whole storytelling kind of did. At times I thought the script writer must be a big fan of D. Adams. But then again they missed so many opportunities for an insider... Remember the scene when Eleanor asked Janet about the meaning of everything? I cannot believe they missed that one....
I was reading The Resturant at the End of the Universe at the same time I was watching this episode. Experiencing Micheal try to explain Jeremy Beremy to the gang and Ford try to explain the existence of Miliways to Arthur back to back was just too good

I have a big admiration for how well Michael was acted here. Like, if you tried to explain to someone how Earth's timeline works as simple as possible and they still didn't get it, you wouldn't know what else to say either

I thought for a second that the dot over the I was going to be how they got out of the four of them knowing about the Good Place. If this scene took place on a Tuesday, then them finding out about Michael and Janet "never happened".
Yeah, no. That only works in the afterlife. Earth is still following a straight line.
Yeah, it seems interesting that Michael undid something that was done. Did he start a new timeline when he saved the Four from death? If so, does it mean that there are versions of Chidi, Tahini, Jason and Eleanor somewhere in the afterlife still struggling to find their place? Did they go to hell or are they stuck at the Judge's office?
It's very curious that Michael didn t have to "go back in time", but at some point Eleanor, Tahini, Jason and Chidi did die, had their funerals, their souls went to the afterlife, etc.
Janet’s helpful “and sometimes it’s never” and “that’s by birthday” keep killing me

I said this on the Twitter feed, Thing is, while yes they know about the afterlife bt that doen't mean their motivation is automatically corrupt.
For instance in Season One, Chidi said he would not help Eleanor and then she still decided to help clean up the neighbourhood after the trash storm.
Same thing here (sort of) the Soul Squad know they have to go to the Bad Place, but Eleanor still decides to return the wallet. She even takes extra steps to get the stuff back to the owner. And this is AFTER she finds out she is already doomed. so her motivation here is pure. Doing the right thing and expecting no reward.
She was even happy for the guy to get his daughters picture back.
She's a good person.
I had this thought before the season started. I'm glad they went with it. By accepting that they can't earn points, they no longer have corrupted motivation, so their good deeds can earn points! Unless they realize that, in which case their motivation is bad again. Unless they realize _that,_ at which point it's all contradictory - if they think they can earn points then they can't, and if they think they can't then they can.
Sort that one out, judge!
Medium places for everyone!
That is exactly what i figured out at the end of the episode ^^
Hopefully they will not figure this out ^^
that is what they're going for this season, after they all accepted that they are going to hell and there's nno way escaping it, they still do good without expecting anything.....good points
