  • I took this Star Wars Jakks Pacific Captain Phasma 20 in (or 18 in) action figure and did a custom makeover on her. This Captain Phasma toy was a pain in the neck project that I almost gave up on but I pushed through and in the end have a pretty cool Star Wars custom toy.
    I hope you enjoy this custom paint job and and customization!
    Thanks for visiting DR Toys, have a great one!

    She looks much better now. I always have a hard time with metallic paints and protective coats too.
    She deserves her own base though, she is certainly display shelf quality👍

      Thanks! I totally agree, she definitely needs a base. To be honest I was so over this build I didn't have the energy to do a base. I do have her on the shelf and we're becoming friends again so I may come back around and build her that base at some point! 😂

    Dave, get yourself some Tamiya Liquid Surface Primer. You can brush it on, it's self levelling, can be thinned, and when it's dry you can fine sand it. It's amazing stuff.

    Rust-Oleum Automotive High fill primer. Prime then sand it will fill in all kinds of gaps and dings sometimes you have to shoot it again and sand again. I think the build looks great just moving the arms made all the difference in the world like 300% better. Sweet build just found your chanel. It may not had came out as you envisioned but it's yet quite an upgrade. Look, they say one is it's own most ruthless critic; you will forever look at it and will think of all the things that look wrong or could've looked better, but everyone around you will get marveled. From my part I admire that you went the extra mile in every way possible and didn't just gave up halfway. This is done, move on, to the next project. By the way; I did the exact same with all my 3.75 Rogue One Imperial troopers figures; they are all so gorgeous but look so silly just standing there, so I just sectioned their arms and reposed them so at least they could hold their weapons at an "attention" stance. Gave them some weathering and voila! they look great!.

    Looks way better than before! A good primer coat should fill in any scratches from sanding and silvers generally look better over a black undercoat. In terms of silvers, Molotow (the graffiti brand) they do a chrome silver marker that is incredible. Guarantee you’ll never use another chrome product ever again. You can pour it in to an airbrush and it’s ready to go!

    Nice remodel. I find a nice black base coat makes silvers pop far more plus it gives u a nice first surface to even out the overall texture. Worst thing about most silver metallics are you have to leave them for 48hours to let it set so that any future weathering doesn’t upset the surface. That wait is painful but worth it. Love your videos mate.

    I think the silver came out well. The problem with reposing (in my experience) is that it involves more joint than you first think. Move an elbow and the wrist and shoulder moves etc.

    I just wanted to say that when you said how "ugly" it looked in the process, that's what keeps me from doing things like this. I'm afraid of the ugly stage, but you make it look so easy & show us how you fixed the "ugly" & that gives me confidence in trying things out. I've had pieces to a little robot that I want to make, but the "ugly" part scares me. I think I'm going to pull them out today & see what's what. Thank you, sir. You are greatly appreciated.
    If you want to give that skull away, do it, it's really cool looking, but as for me, I'd much rather see what you can do with it. I'd like to see you make some kind of character just based on it. Is it a head? Is it some kind of decoration on a person's suit? Maybe it goes on a vehicle of some kind? I don't know, but I'd like to see how your mind works with it.
    As for it not being perfect, learning something is often a much better reward, not to mention you've taught me a few things and encouraged me as well. That said, the pose is much, much better. I almost kinda wished you'd have taken a Barbie head & showed us an unmasked Phasma, if the size was a close match. LOL Regardless, thanks for another cool video.

    Krylon makes a Specialty High-Gloss Silver Mirror spray paint that I think would be perfect for this. Lowe's has it for $10.
    However, I think the real issue with the way the color looks on the suit is because her suit is actually chrome; which means it's incredibly smooth. Almost like a mirror. So you would need to do a lot of smoothing on that plastic to get the texture right, in order to get that same mirrored look if that's what you're going for.

    Too bad the heat gun didn't work great, different plastic maybe?
    Have you tried using any enamels? They stink and you need solvent to clean up after, but it might have covered better over the shiny chrome spray. I like AK Xtreme metal chrome paint too, if you can find it.

      I have never had luck with enamel paint and my space is so small and it so cold in the winter I dont have good ventilation. I also have never really invested in good enamel paint so that could be a thing as well.😀

    Well, here are some hints that might be helpful: the sanding job was lousy because you did not "build up" your grit numbers...you do not start with a 1200, you go 120, 240, 400, 600, 1000.... each finer grits take away the sanding marks of it predecessor. The buffing wheel on the Dremel is meant to be used with a polishing compound that is applied to the felt. The way you used it it just generated a lot of heat - not something you want on plastic. Oh, and paint sticks so much better when you use a primer!

    • @DRToysCreations
      @DRToysCreations  2 года назад

      Thanks! I do start with 240 then like 600. I need to invest in more sandpaper. 😀 Great tips.

      It's funny, I was just watching Adam Savage Tested and he did a clear coat over a Mandalorian helmet and it looked amazing. He even mentioned how surprised he was because he said it normally never works like that. I rolled the dice and lost. 😂😂😂

    • @TripleXmodder
      @TripleXmodder 2 года назад

      @@DRToysCreations Yeah I saw that video too. I’ve actually painted life-size captain Fasman in Mandalorian‘s cell this is in my arena. I believe Adam mentions later in that video why it worked and it’s because the helmet wasn’t smooth it actually had a texture so the clearcoat was filling in the texture which made it shiny which is an anomaly. On a smooth surface any clearcoat is going to doll chrome unless you know some trade secrets.. but great build! Love your channel.
