Loved the Red Sauce Recipe! My family had multiple Big Boys throughout Indiana and Colorado. The Azar Big Boy was an original franchise spun off the original Frisch. I am creating an whole series of Azar family restaurant recipes and we are filming Big Boy, Onion Rings and Strawberry pie this weekend. Your recipe for the red sauce is spot on. I have all the original recipes from our family restaurants, but we never had the red sauce. Nice work and I am going to subscribe!

I can't wait to make this! I can't begin to tell you how many evenings I spent in my late teens and early 20's in the Bob's Big Boy on Beach Blvd. in Huntington Beach. And they had some really hot waitresses, too!

Yum. I did part of my growing up in a set of twin-towns on the Minnesota/North Dakota border, in the late 60s and early 70s. For most of that time, there were only 4 "fast-food" restaurants to serve the area joint population of 15,000 or so. There was an A&W burgers/root beer drive-in, a Dairy Queen, a Tastee Freeze, and a (McDowell's) Big Boy restaurant, with the big Bob statue out front. My dad hated fast-food burgers, except for Big Boy's burgers, so this is what we had on those rare times he let us stop for burgers on the way to the lake cabin. Fun video, once again.

The Big Boy was and still is a very important part of so many peoples childhoods. I had to make this video and spent almost a year working on the red relish for this. When I finally hit on the correct recipe I was both please and pissed. I had finally hit on it but IT IS SO SIMPLE!!!!! Think as they would have thought, do as they would have done. It was 1936 after all. What a huge lesson...

I miss the Bob's Big Boy off of El Toro by the 5 freeway so much! We used to eat there almost weekly when I was very young, and I always got the chili spaghetti. I've made the trek up to Burbank to eat at the original.
You can request to sit in the booth where the Beatles ate once in 1964, and where DeNiro and Pacino sat while filming a scene from Heat.

I remember tearing up a bit as they hauled ol' Bob off his perch and onto the truck. I sat across the street and watched him taken off to go live on a farm and chase rabbits... Never made the trek up to Burbank. It's cool that it has been there since 1949 and still going strong. This burger was spot on and I ate it with great joy, remembering better days and crazy nights...

Bobs big boy is iconic in California. but when I moved to Ohio, from Cali, I found the Frisch's Big Boy with Frisch's tarter sauce on the Super Big Boy. It's epic. You must try it. Good for dipping your fries in too. I keep a jar in the fridge always, you can buy it anywhere out here. I do miss Bobs Big Boy blue cheese dressing with big chunks of blue cheese and peppercorns when I lived in California. Frisch's blue cheese just don't have the same flavor.

I can still buy the Blue Cheese dressing in the store and it is the only brand I buy, if it is in stock. I saw that there is Michigan sauce and Ohio sauce they sell on the Big Boy website. I thought the Ohio sauce looked a lot like tartar sauce. I will have to try that soon.

I seem to remember coleslaw in the burger also.

There were several 'Big Boy' restaurants around the country and they all had their personal spin on the burger. Some used tartar sauce instead of the red relish. Bob's was also famous for making a few variations of the classic. Coleslaw was one of those as I recall too.

I can work on it and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the suggestion!
