Probably the band I regret not seeing the most in their prime. I was probably 15 or 16 or so when this happened, was just starting to get into them, too busy in my own sad high school world I guess . RIP Jeremiah Green
That would've been something to see. I live like 30 min away from there. Too bad I was 12 at that time and wouldn't know who Modest Mouse was for another 2 years.
Modest Mouse has a fan bace and an overall atmosphere that reminds me of creedance clearwater revival. They both play an aura of "I'm poor and things are shitty, but I'll be okay".
1. It blew my mind how amazing the band sounded stripped down, especially since Isaac doesn't have a "traditional" singing voice - he sounded amazing. 2. It blew my mind what songs people were yelling for at the end - it's weird/sad, but I don't know many people in person who have have even heard of those songs. They had the perfect setup for Baby Blue Sedan, but the concept of an acoustic version of All Nite Diner or Tundra is both funny and intriguing.
I've been lucky enough to see many bands live Arcade Fire, the Black Keys, Dead Weather, and tons more, but the two times I got to see Modest Mouse are still the best shows I've seen.
I’m not sure if it was this same tour but saw them in an abandoned high school gym in Louisville, KY with Camper Van Beethoven right around the same time. No A/C in the height of summer. Literally the hottest I have ever been. People were passing out. It was ridiculous but oh so memorable. Glad I stumbled on this video.
Why have they never done an acoustic session, like one of those HQ in studio ones? Then again they are a very different band. But this is so perfect, their songs are great on acoustic.
kostonjohn Isaac is always saying that every single Modest Mouse show is a one of a kind, once in a lifetime experience LMFAO there are many obscure unreleased MM songs cause they perform them off the cuff live in concert
They are the best!! Modest mouse is such a unique band. They are my absolute favorite!! Sad sappy sucker and moon and Antarctica are the sound track of my teenage years.
Ohh these guys. Still my fav band still. Thanks for being awesome. I'm still trying to get you guys to come and play at my restaurant. Unannounced no cover. That would be fun. Something just like this!!
Huh... you know what? I have been persuaded! ^_^ I found it, you found it, they found it. Now that I think about it, I was looking for a modest mouse acoustic set at a record store as well. Disregard my hasty view count insecurities.
People expecting new MM to sound the same as they did early on are crazy. If isaac was still in the same place mentally as he was then, itd be incredibly taxing. Newer MM is still MM, with the same Brock, just in a different place. People progress/digress/get stuck. At least hes still thinking long. Im cool with what hes given his fans, hes given enough for 20 bands. also sweet hair brah
@@mynamefrank6567 I believe it was 2001. My wife, at the time, and I planned to see them later that evening. We were hanging out in Little Five Points. They set up outside of Criminal records and played. Good stuff.

Yeah but he played digging holes before sharpen your teeth came out. Same with parasites and other songs on ugly. Isaac gained wait after moon/before ugly Casanova album dropped. This was outside a record store in Seattle. I believe it was late 2000 or early 2001
Exactly. But they hesitated and less people said it, which was probably what he predicted. That's a legitimate reason to change lyrics to something that random in my mind. And I don't believe in overthinking.
I saw them last night. Was my 40th show in 26 years. First time was fall of 97 so almost to the day, I’m just as big of a fan as I was any other period in my life at 42 now. Jeremiah was a good friend. Rip my friend. Anybody know the date of this? 2001? Or late 2000? Thanks!
"And I shout that you're all snakes, and you should've seen the look on your face." He knew what was going to happen in the audience when he said "snakes" instead of "fakes". That is some cool psychological fuckery.
I agree that is hard to find bands that are very unique, but they are not the only ones. You overlook bands that contain unique original qualities such as Beirut, Andrew Bird, The Veils, Minus the Bear, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear...etc.
Anyone here in 2024 !!! Good film

It’s crazy to me to see on the thumbnail uploaded 17y ago. I could remember watching this on RUclips back in 2006, how is time going so fast?
Whoever filmed this deserves a hug.
😘
Yes! I’ll donate a hug too! Modest Mouse fan girling since 04 💕
This is the best summary i have seen... this is library of congress $h1t
Lol
Fucking rite o..
This is honestly a contender for the greatest RUclips video of all time.
Amen... i just grabbed an old comment and replied "Library of Congress" type shit.... Should i start a movement? lol
11 years later....
Awesome clip. Never seen Isaac with long hair. Rest in peace Jeremiah Green. Loved his drumming style.
Didn't u watch him take his wig off?
It's pretty amazing that Brock can play those leads and also sing his awesomely phrased lyrics.

For real though. Watching him sing and pick 'Third Planet' blew my mind.

I love when one of the audience members suggested Tundra/Desert and Isaac just looks at her and goes "How are we gonna do that??" And they both laugh

Cheerful nihilism at its finest
At first that sounds like a crazy thing to say because the music is disparate, but no - you’re totally right. It’s a vibe they share.

@4:06, HOLY SHIT, IT'S MODEST MOUSE!
Id do anything to go back in time and be at this show
From the the physicality of Isaac it looks like this was recorded some time in 2000
Modest Mouse is great. They're on par with Pink Floyd as far as song writing goes, and their sounds are so melodic. So much music today lacks melody
