- First filming trip with the Fortuner - kinda' had to be Red Rocks, the place I learnt how to drive offroad and a spot I love heading out to time and time again.

Awesome mate. Lived in wgtn all my life. Also learnt to 4wd here in a jimny. Never got bogged but always pulled other people out. Running the new hilux now. You might see me around white with silver canopy,afn front bar.

It's one of my favourite - not toooo tricky, but enough to keep it interesting - and yeah, some amazing views! The soft sand does catch a lot of people out there
It is a good track, really handy for an after work trip during the summer. Good to see some really considerate driving from @OverlandNZ too :-)

Cheers! Ground clearance is what you need more than anything - it’s hard to capture how steep it is in a video

You can just don't stay Saturday nights, as they close the gates on Sunday

@@jimmybilly007 council do it so walkers can have a single day where there are no vehicles / if they need to do maintenance they have a day they know vehs won't be on the tracks

As Wyllim has said, should be all good. Probably just worth heading a reasonable way around and not camping near the carpark
ya rekon a 4x4 petrol 2012 Rav4 would make it over the gate? if it had offroad wheels? i think it should, the main issue might be clearance...
It’s been a while since I last saw it - but it was pretty rough then. Clearance and lack of wheel travel would possibly hold you back. Its really hard to capture the angles on camera
Should I get Rear lockers or front lockers first?
In all honestly, I've never had a locker till I got this 4WD. And even then, I hardly use it. From talking to people though, most seem to recommend a rear first - was my plan with my old Hilux before I decided to sell it

Just a quick two questions, does the Fortuner have A sunroof? And does it have automatic windows? Because my dad is getting it in this June, so I just wanna know like extra stuff about it. Amazing vids though! Keep it up 👍
Hey mate - no sunroof on the Fortuner, at least in New Zealand. All four windows are automatic which is nice. That’s exciting though - not too long to go!
Hey just wondering I recently purchased a 2019 fortuner because I've watched your videos and decided to get one lol but I have ATs tyres on mine at the moment would it make it over devils gate? I'm new to 4wd
Heya - nice! Congrats on the purchase. Low tyre pressures, low speed and the right line make it easy. Went over today for the first time since I filmed this video - low 1st and rear diff lock on, was nice and easy. Always good to have a spotter the first time though
Do you recon the factory bash plates are sufficient for these kind of four wheeling driving? I am hesitant to upgrade because i dont want to add more weight to the vehicle.
Depends how often you’re in situations like this - I smashed mine a bit, they’re still fine, though not as straight as they once were.
I’ve got some new ones to go on - prefer to have the protector over saving the weight personally. I didn’t think I needed them - but added a heavy duty set to my old Hilux and was amazed how bashed up they got

Would a suzuki grand vitara 2011 with AT/s make it over devils gate or would the clearance be an issue?
Cheers Shaun! It gets way better after the gate eh! Honestly not sure - the best way would be to get a spotter and go and give it a shot, taking it slowly. My mate had a stock 2001 Vitara that made it over no issues

I'm not sure - most of them are empty most of the time, but some do appear fairly well lived in

Uh good question - if you use the Metlink journey planner - www.metlink.org.nz/journey-options - and set your destination to 176 Owhiro Bay Parade, Ōwhiro Bay it'll hopefully give you some options
