7700xt, 4070s, 6600 are all meh
Can you make 'best used gpus'?
You know why I like you? You make the video, you explain everything in detail, and yet you also pin a comment with the relevant information for everyone that's not going to watch the entire video. Fair play, thanks for respecting us as audience, that's why I keep coming back even if I'm not that interesting in the topic, it's my way of saying thanks for your work.
nice video, as usual backed up with realistic assumptions
You can get the 6650XT brand new for $10 less than the 6600XT, so there's no reason to buy a 6600XT if anyone's considering that over the 6600 non XT. At $230 the 6650XT also makes much more sense than a 6600 at $200. The 6650XT is ~25% faster.
Another potential option like others have said, the 7900 XT is pretty good value right now at $630 USD. If you don't mind the lack of NVIDIA features this card blows every modern game at 1440p max settings without the need to upscale. The VRAM is a tad overrated but the 20(!) buffer over the 4070 super's 12 is huge especially when you start getting into native 4K (or specific intense game mods), which the 7900XT can do pretty well with high settings. If you don't care about RT, it's a decent compromise for about 30 bucks more, and personally if you ask me Raytracing isn't really a viable, comfy option until that 4070 TI S, 4080 S range. If you ever regret the lack of NVIDIA features you can always just return it, especially since some online stores like Newegg are doing a holiday return window thing where you have no questions asked returns all the way until Jan 2025. This is great for people who want to do some strenuous gaming right now while being able to have that cushion for that extra money going into the next gen cards.
Amen, brother, this card NUKES the 4070S on value ...
Rocking here an xtx. They are good
I bought a 7900XT been very happy with it. Now with AMDs fluid motion 2 getting even higher FPS. Curious to see what the next gen 8000 series gpus will offer. Given that AMD has thrown in the towel for high end gpu market.
the only thing I don’t like about this card is the cold whine. It is quite noticeable
I really don't like 300w+ cards. Cards should really be 250w at max like 2080ti was. Anything past that is just asking for trouble. Really disappointed about rtx 5000 rumors so far, it seems like even 70 class cards will now be huge, power hungry and unreliable
7700xt made a GRAND comeback
Yeah, it's $450 launch price was a joke. At $350 it makes a lot more sense.
@@danielowentech yessir! Got it off a recent recommendation from you for my first ever pc build (childhood dream hehe)
Have been watching ur vids religiously for a while. Keep up the fantastic work
It will become 1080p card in 2025. 12gb vram is not enough in 1440p
Its still $450 in my country 😢
@@adlibconstitution1609 Stop the VRAM doom. 8gb can play 1440p fine for vast majority of games.
Got a 7800 xt for $418 during Prime days. Feeling pretty good about this from my old 1660 super, and I can probably sell it to one of my friends if something with a more compelling price-to-performance comes along in 2025-2026
definitely a big upgrade 👍
Nice friends 😂
I got greedy and bought at Best Buy for $450 right before the sale but im happy to pay a little more for brick and mortar return and just being able to pick it up off the shelf. Plus it came with Space Marine 2 and another game I probably won't ever play. I know people don't like to include freebies into the price, but SM2 was the game I was most excited to play, so I'm comfortable in saying that brought the real cost of the card under $400 for me. I was questioning my decision for a while but this video makes me feel a lot better about it. My last card was a 1080ti, but it got destroyed in a move so I needed one sooner than later.
7800 xt was $430 like a week ago and I missed it. I am not happy with myself lol
You didn't list the 7900xt, people are sleeping on this card. Really good performance and decent raytracing performance too. In Cyberpunk I can run it at high settings with rt ultra with xess 1.3 at balanced with a 2160p output. You can run path tracing if you want too. I would wait for rdna 4. But for $630 it's severely underrated.
Agreed. And even better if you don't really care about Ray Tracing. I play at native 1440p so it'd be a perfect card for me. Where else can you get a 20GB and 320 bit bus for the same money? Nowhere. I'm probably going to get it soon.
Fr I was eyeing this, I was watching Daniel Owen's reviews and if you can get it around 600, you get better than 4070 ti super performance for 200ish less! High 20gb Vram so you could be good for like 5 years if you wanted to.
i grabbed a used 3060 Ti for 200 Euro to replace 1060 , enough for me atm
1060 is geriatric in 2024 lol
I bought 4060 Ti 16GB for 300 euro upgrading from 1660 super a few days ago. Really happy with its performance too. I think the performance gap is the same as from 1060 to 3060 ti
@@maxon1861 Good stuff... If you got a 4060 Ti 16GB for a good price than good for you mate. People will try to sh*t on you for buying a 4060 Ti 16GB, but don't listen to them. It's a good card when you use it how it's supposed to be used i.e. 1440p, DLSS, FG with optimized graphic settings and if you play e-sports titles, paired with a good CPU, you will be set for a couple of years easy.
that sounds like a really good deal!
@@thomaslayman9487 yeah, it's inno3d card, not the best but 3060ti
Nobody knows yet but I see the RTX 5070 performing around 10% better than a 4070 Super but costing an extra $100-$150 while drawing more power. I believe NVIDIA will continue to cater to those with deep pockets and AI companies.
Right now, rumors have it at about 4070 ti performance in raster and about 10% more for ray tracing. Its supposed to be between $600 and $700 according to leaks.
More power? From 3000 series to 4000 series the drawing performance got way better.
@@erickalvarez6486 Only because of the node shrink. RTX50 will be on the same node as RTX40 though.

If you Look at Nvidia...
2015 // 4,68 billion USD /
2019 // 11,72 billion USD /
2022 // 26,91 billion USD /
2024 // 60,92 billion USD /
Thats just crazy....
Nvidia want more money 😡
The things I worry about with waiting for next gen GPUs are, will I be able to get one at launch? Will Nvidia offer a reasonable price for a 16gb card? Will AMDs gpu have enough performance now that they aren't competing with the high end? If I wait for next gen GPUs and nothing is worth buying will I miss out on cheaper current gen pricing? I really hate the GPU market right now. It is absolute dogshit for consumers.
My exact thoughts
1) No. Best you can hope for is probably a 5070 18GB for $649-699. TSMC pricing isn't helping us out either.
2) Great performance for 1440p, at 4K it'll depend on the developer and your frame rate targets. FSR 4 could be a significant improvement over 3.1, if you're okay with upscaling.
3) If you're willing to buy used, pricing will be even better by that point. If you want to stick to retail, yes, because current-gen stocks will be dry by then.
@@Vorexia $700 for an 18gb 5070 sounds generous from Nvidia, if that is the case, will it even be available is the real question. I hope they do better this gen, but I find it doubtful. I'm currently looking at a 4070ti super/7900xt/xtx. If they keep dropping prices, I may have to pull the trigger.
@@JerrySpringfield1 Nothing theoretically stops it from being $749, yeah. Nvidia is no alien to having people pay an extra $100 for more VRAM, as seen with the 4060 Ti.
Considering your selection of GPUs, I'd recommend waiting until RDNA 4 comes out in January, 2025. Leaks aren't to be trusted, but IF they are true, leakers have believed for quite some months now that the 8800 XT will be slightly faster than a 7900 XT at raster and on the same level than a 4070 Ti Super at RT. All for around $500. Again, to be taken with a heavy grain of salt, but if that's remotely true it could save you a hefty buck.
But again, that would invoke the risk of the supply of your selected GPUs being in limited supply.
5070 is rumored to be 12Gb again... When the 4070 super is already bottlenecked by its VRAM 😂
If the 8800 XT is really as powerful as a 7900 XTX it will be at least 600$, so basically the only good GPU to buy rn is a 7800 XT at like 450$
Despite the overall recommendation to not buy anything until we have all the info needed for a good decision (that I am absolutely going along with)...
Really appreciate these continued videos. Am biting my nails trying to have a finger to the pulse of prices after seeing the Monster Hunter Wilds specs sheet. Gotta make sure my friends can play with me when the time comes!
7900 XT for 629$ and 6950 XT for 480$ were really good deals.
I'm kinda tempted to go for a 7900 XT. Why? Well, it comes with 20GB and 320 bit bus for 700€ in my country. Taxes included. And it's definitely enough for my use and I don't really care about Ray Tracing anyway as I don't notice the difference most of the time. The only thing that worries me is if it can eventually use FSR 4 but at this point so few games support the latest and greatest features that I wouldn't be able to use anyway. And if 8800 XT comes with a 16GB and 256 bit bus then I don't know if it's worth it. And rumors suggest there is no 8900 XT or XTX. And even if something like that comes later and RDNA 4 or any future cards is miles better than 7900 XT, I'll just buy another card then and give the 7900 XT to my brother or sell it if he doesn't want it, lol.
But I'm definitely switching away from Nvidia.
I enjoy this 7900XTX , I do recommend it!
Cope. You know deep down Nvidia is better
Lol what. By what metric. Its faster than a 4080 and uses less power and is cheaper. How is he coping he is recommending a product he enjoys. Don't shill for free. It makes you look like a child.

Not turning on Ray Tracing anyway. Oh dear, I really feel like I've missed out on not spending twice as much as I could have.
That said, I wouldn't recommend buying one right now, as tempting as they look dipping down to $800. Prices will continue to plummet when they don't have anything to compete with 5080 and 5090.
@@FO0TMinecraftPVP I've built PCs for 30 years. People like you are the reason PC enthusiasts are described as toxic gatekeepers. The only scene I've experienced to be worse, when it comes to brand-brainwash is motor cycle enthusiasts. They will literally get in fist fights over who's preferred crotch rocket is "the most authentic". But keep it up, and you might get there one day, dork.
TBH, you should wait only if you are buying 5090. For the rest of the line up, unless you want to waste money wait for the fall/winter when super/refresh versions of 80/70 are released. Basically 40 series flashbacks.
Eeeeh, it was mostly like $30 worth of performance for $50 with the exception of the 70TiS and 80S where one got the memory it should've had and the other got cheaper.
@@RotaryJunkie It's gonna be even worse for the 5000 series. Nvidia gonna skimp on memory and performance again, and in reality the 5080 will be closer to 5070, and the 5070 will be closer to 5060 in performance. They really want you to buy the 5090, or else you're getting the nerfed cards. And after selling them like hotcakes, they'll release refreshed versions with little bit more memory, cores and performance, more in line with what the actual gains compared to the previous generations should be. Now that they don't even have to mind about AMD, they'll have free reign over the wallets of sheeple.
I tend to disagree. It all depends on 50xx pricing of course, but I *guess* it's safe to say that, come Jan 2025, you'll be able to get 4090-levels of performance for 4080 (Super?) money. Minus 8 GB of VRAM of course, if the rumored specs are true and complete. They might still launch a 5080 24 GB, for all we know.
@@1SaGin reality you're not getting the same performance as 4090 if it only has 16GB.
Bought used rx6600 for $130 early this month for my first pc. And im very happy with it
For 1080p High or Very High in the latest AAA titles it's a perfectly good little card. If paired with a Ryzen 7600X or i5 12600k it's also perfectly capable of driving the FPS though the roof in e-sports titles at competitive settings.
@@andersjjensen my cpu is ryzen 5600, still building in AM4 due to my low budget and i dont really plan to upgrade them soon. Hope it last me 4-5 years
@@ManggoSmoothie A 5600 is still good for over 200FPS in most e-sports games and perfectly good enough to suck all the juice out of a 6600 if you turn up the settings in AA/AAA titles. 4-6 sounds like a reasonable expectation. By then Low will look like High today.
@@ManggoSmoothie you'll have to turn down the settings over the years but it'll most defintely last you that 4-5 years at 1080p
Upcoming holiday sales should give you an idea of how desperate they are to sell off old stock. If discounts are anemic, expect disappointing next gen pricing as well.
I'm very curious to see if the 7,000 Series AMD cards will support FSR4 or not. I bought a 6800 XT in early September and the only thing that worries me is that I won't be able to use FSR4. Otherwise I feel the 6800 XT is better value than the 7800 XT currently unless you really want the Space Marine II bundle.

I upgraded my 6800 to 7900xtx for $800, gaming on Linux and a happy camper. Even though it was refurbished, AMD gave me a code for Space Marines 2 as well.
$800 is not a discount for the 7900xtx in America
@@johnbowyer9815 It's fine enough for me. Especially for the reference model which is next to impossible to find new.
@@johnbowyer9815 Depends on the time and the model. They dipped to $850, then rose back up to $950 and then started slowly declining. The cheapest model on pcpartspicker is $840 right now. If he got a refurbed reference with full warranty and a game code for $800 he most certainly didn't get his pants pulled off.
I was going with the 4070 ti super on prime day for 750 but I went with the 7900xtx for 788 instead. Super happy with the decision now.
o7
You recommended the 7700 XT over the 4060 Ti because AMD is actually 22% better in performance for the $. Because even if we take into account DLSS and better RT the 7700 XT is still a better buy.
But then you didn't even mention the 7900 XT even though it is actually 26% better in performance for the $ than the 4070 Ti Super. I find it strange.
The 7900 XT is only $639 now. Which is $140 less than the 4070 Ti Super. And the card was even $615 a few days ago. That's a pretty noticeable 31% difference. And we can expect such discounts again around Black Friday. Will Nvidia also drop $200? I highly doubt that.
And will the 5070 be cheap and powerful enough to justify waiting another 4 months? I doubt that either. The 7900 XT is 40% faster and has 67% more VRAM than the 4070. But MSRP of the 4070 is $600. If the 5070 is also $600 at launch and only has 12GB again, the 7900 XT 20GB at around $600 is still likely to be faster and a better buy than Nvidia. But you won't have to wait another 4 months to find out.
Yeah, I'm kinda disappointed he didn't even mention it as an option. It's a 20GB and 320 bit bus card. I'm probably going to get it regardless. I can always sell it later or give it to my brother if I get a new one. But I think it will serve me well for many years.
From what I can tell his opinion is that there is no reason to spend beyond $600 unless you care about ray tracing, which I agree with.
@@Zer0Hour17 He only said that because he thought there was no other option cheaper than $800. But that's just not true. The 7900 XT is around that $600 mark, but it's as fast as the 4070 Ti Super for $780.
@@JackJohnson-br4qr I'm pretty sure he knows whats available and again, his opinion is clearly if you are spending $600+ ray tracing is what matters and the 7900xt is no where near as good as the 4070 ti super with ray tracing on.
@@Zer0Hour17 Again, the 7900 XT regularly sells for around $600. That's a 31% better price/performance ratio than the 4070 Ti Super. So even if you turn on RT and DLSS on the Nvidia card, the 7900 XT will deliver more frames for your money than the 4070 Ti Super. As he argued with the 7700 XT vs 4060 Ti and he sided with AMD.

I hope the rx8000 series comes out around February. I'm trying to start saving for an 8800xt.
I do not totally agree. With the "leaked" prices of the 50 series, the price per fps is going to be higher for the 50 series. And with the stock of the 4080 Super going down so fast (90% of retailers here in my country, has sold out their stock of the better versions of the 4080 Super), I would say now is the time to buy a 40 series card, as it has a better price per fps than the 50 series. At least as of release. Six month down the line, this might be different though. So we are talking about a time frame of summer next year maybe, before the 50 series could potentially be worth it.
But then we go into the same circle of, should we wait or buy. Then we are eying the 50 series SUPER in the near future. And so continues the never ending circle.
Now is absolutely the time to buy the 40 series. If you can wait for offers in November, then be careful, as most of the better versions will be sold out before that. I am sure there will be some nice deals on PNY, Zotac etc. If you are fine with those.
The 4070 Ti Super doesn't just have more VRAM than the 4070 Super, it also comes with double AV1 encoders as opposed to a single one, it has a wider Bus, and the same Processor as the 4080 (AD103). It's basically a slightly slower 4080, rather than a faster 4070. So yeah, I'd say that it's definitely worth its premium.
But in terms of performance it is right between 4070 S and 4080. So I would call it "slightly" slow. Otherwise you should also describe it as "slightly" faster than 4070 S.
@@stangamer1151 But performance alone doesn't paint the entire picture as to why it's priced like that. The 4070 Ti Super comes with advantages, other than its performance, that justify its premium over the 4070 Super.
Meanwhile, the 4080 offers roughly the same jump in performance for roughly the same jump in price, except it doesn't come with more VRAM, a wider Bus, a better Processor or better encoding than the 4070 Ti Super, so its premium isn't justified.

I bought used 6800xt for 300$ last month. totally worth it. playing all game using 4k fsr balance + afmf 2 on 27" screen.
During prime day I found a RX 7900 XT on a major sale for about $830 CAD, but until then I was considering a RTX 4070 Super, the lowest of which was $800 CAD (about $600 vs $580 in USD). Since the prices were so close I went with the more powerful 7900 XT, but do you think the Nvidia features on the 4070 super would have been worth the raw performance cut at effectively the same price?
If price to performance is a major factor and you are not turning on RT/ FG, then it's better that you went with the 7900xt, especially cause you get that 20gb Vram vs 12 gb(I heard a lot of people get near their 12gb vram and can't max out their performance). At similar pricing, 7900xt is even more powerful than 4070ti super. It all depends on what you value more. I would say if you had the option between 4070 S, 4070 ti S, and 7900xt, if money is a concern, I would go with 7900xt, if money isn't much of a concern I would go with 4070ti S (also maybe be on sale on holiday season/black friday) or better yet wait for 50 series release.
Amd is taking over.
AMD is NOT taking over, if anything it's the opposite.. rumors and leaks are showing that the 8000 series won't have any cards that even get to the performance of the 7900 GRE.. let alone the XT or XTX.. If that's the case, I recommend waiting at least until RDNA 4 comes out, which leaks suggest to be in January 2025. Even if next-gen hardware won't be great, current-gen will have much more attractive pricing in the used market. But now definitely isn't a bad time to upgrade either. It really depends on whether the 1660 Super is holding you back from playing the games that you want to play or not. I own one, too (bricked my RX 6600, so I had to downgrade) and every game I play except for Space Marines 2 runs comfortably well, so I'm trying to hold out until 2026.
I agree that at this stage with 50xx and Navi IV (probably) being pretty close to launch, holding off on your purchase is the smartest move.
I think 7900 GRE, 7900 XT and 4070 Super are all pretty good options, depending what features you prefer and prioritize. I'd love 4070 Ti Super, but it's impossible to justify the price (it's equivalent to $900+ where I live). I totally get your argument about getting a 4070 Super instead of, say 7900 GRE because of RT and DLSS features. But, the problem is that many new games that would benefit from those advanced features, like Cyberpunk, are still so heavy, that many times they'll barely run at 60 fps @1440p, which is pretty much unacceptable for a brand new GPU at $600+ price range, at least for me it is. For lighter raytracing workloads, maybe.
So, I would probably run these games without those features anyway, to get better fps, which makes Radeons the better option again. It's those high-end Nvidia GPUs like 4080 Super and 4090 that really benefit from those Nvidia features *and* are able to run those games with decent fps. But you're gonna have to throw in some serious cash to get that performance. Investing more than $1000 in a GPU (over 66% increase to $600), just for a little more eye candy is just not worth it, in my opinion. Well, unless you're loaded.
What do you think *could* be some buy prices around Black Firday/Cyber Monday ? ie. maybe a 7800xt over 6800xt if it drops down to 430 or under etc.
I bought 7900xt for 669$ (with white color tax 😅) for my 1600p uw monitor and I can’t be happier with that. White 4070ti I want costs 860$ which is crazy just for gaming with RT and DLSS 😮
My next card will be the 7900GRE. That monster will go undervolted with a custom driver in my current full-size PC and my 4070S will go in my new small ff build for my LR. As usual when you buy a new Oled you start thinking about gaming in more then just one room, Lol.
I’m planning to get a new beefy PC for Black Friday, I got a 1080ti and parts from that era so I need to upgrade asap, but would be better to wait for the 5080 or grab a 4080 super during the Christmas period? All help appreciated,
Sorry Daniel, just bought 4080 super pro art. I want to see how it stacks up against my XTX. The XTX lead is shrinking or gone in most cases since the amount of ue5 and RT always on games are increasing.
what are you talking about bro? lol that's just copium.. Only thing here shrinking is my iq reading all these comments.
I think the 7900XT should have been included @ $649usd. I have seen it at $620usd.
The RX 6800 (non XT) still offers the best price/performance ratio in my opinion for under $ 400 with 16 GB. I personally have a RX 7800 XT because the RX 6800 was only available as an XFX custom design in my region and I couldn't get the graphics card into my case. Unfortunately, the RX 6800 XT is no longer available here at all in Europe for a resonable price.
I don't mind if I need to wait until feb for 5070/TI. The problem is the efficiency. Just hearing that I need more wattage already turning me off for the new gen.
750W is my upper limit, plain and simple.
Did you ever test overclocking the GRE? Supposedly its the only card of this generation that responds well to overclocking.
Things Daniel Owens has encountered when showing something from his own videos:
1. getting ads
2. losing connection
Surprised there was no mention of the 7900xtx or the 7900xt since they've dropped so low in price
What about 7900 xtx compared the to the 4070 ti super? These are going for about the same soon. I’ve seen xtx for 820$ already which is similar price range
Your videos are getting better and better
The way you analyze thing's the focus and time you give to every information has been optimized a lot
Have a wonderful day like always and continue the good job
Imo the 7900XT is the high end value king rn if you are looking for a long term raster investment. Great OC potential too, 20 gigs, hardware based AFMF, no multi display issues like Nvidia, 320 bit BUS..
If you invest in the 40 series rn, you will be left out in terms of features the next gen, as always.
The 5090 will be sold out day 1 to scalpers, despite its horrible value (for gamers). The 5080 is a crazy cut down version of it (256 bit BUS only, like cmoooon). The 5070 is a crazy cut down version of the 5080 etc. Its just rediculous..
Vram is important to me and having an Nvidia card is also important to me (Cuda programmer - also use Nvidia workbench a lot. Very anti AMD card) I don’t want to get a 4090 or 5090 due to my power breaker in my house probably not being able to support a 1600 watt rig. Is it worth it for my use case to snag a 4070 ti super on Black Friday? Or just wait and hope to snag a 5080 when it drops? Or by some stroke of god a 4090 drops to 1300-1500 ish?
Is a rtx 3080 10gb for $350 a good buy?
Will DLSS 4 launch with 5070? Thats the big question for me
I love your videos man, Although I have a GPU already but I'm always looking to upgrade. I really like that you put a lot of thought and effort into your arguments on why you should buy X gpu for X tier. It makes it easier for us that aren't as hardcore PC builders as others. Thanks for this fantastic vid!
thank you. i was toying with getting the new 4080super. but i will wait til jan and see how the 5080 compares. hopefully the price jump isn't more than the performance gain.
Just got a 4070Ti SUPER last month because I couldn’t deal with the 4060 at 1440p that came with my pre built. Basically did a full rebuild of my PC because I’m completely transitioning away from console gaming after seeing that PS5 pro price and “performance”.
Last week, I bought an XFX Radeon 6750 XT 12GB for 300 at Best Buy. I thought about waiting but my gaming is shifting towards PC gaming. The 6750 XT, I considered to be the most powerful card that my 650 W PSU can support outside of the high price of a 4070. I'll still use my gaming laptop with a 4070 65W but that will probably be for when DLSS is a better use case (looking at you Cyberpunk 2077) or I just want to use HDR (OLED screen).
Great pickup... was thinking of using that card for my 12 yr old son's pc that he want me to build
I’m able to use a 6800 XT with my 650W PSU, but I have a relatively low power CPU (i5 10400), so our situations are probably different. Just wanted to put it out there anyway just in case it helps someone.
Im in the same specs as you almost a nonth ago. I have a Gigabyte 6700xt bought 6mos ago for $230 and traded it 3weeks ago for a 6800xt with 1yr warranty adding $100 thus costing me only $330 for this.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade my cpu and psu because I need more headroom thus traded my trusty 5600 and Corsair CX650 bronze to a 5700x3D and 850W Gold PSU FM only adding another $130 total. Now im set to skip the whole AM5 and current nvidia/amd gpu as 6800xt trade blows with the 7800xt/4070/3080ti
I got a 6700 XT when I built my PC last year. But I can't figure out what a meaningful upgrade would be on the Nvidia side.
Excellent video. Great info!
is it reasonable to wait pn buying a rx 7900 xtx in black friday or wait the next gen of nvidia in january?, given the fact that if i aim to buy the 5080 , it will cost more than 1200 dollars ?
Probably wait for Rnda 4, rumored to release early next year as well. So far they say it should have performance of a 4080 priced at $500-600.
I wouldn’t advise to wait for an RX 7900 XTX on Black Friday as they stopped production quite a while ago so by that time, it will probably be either creeping in price or be out of stock, this is just a speculation, it could go either way though.
Unless you get it under $800, you should just wait for either NVIDIA or AMD, specially AMD as it’s rumored that the 8800 XT will be 4080 performance at $600, so almost 7900 XTX, but with 16GB of VRAM.
Upcoming used market is looking fantastic. Finally, a lot of high performing GPUs coming under the $500 range and below. When the new 50xx lineup cards are released, it'll crash the mid to high AMD GPU market. Both new and old cards. The used market sets the value levels of products. If something is valued right, the used price is semi close to market price. Used 7900 xtx/xt has to battle against everything from 4070 to 4080S. It's going to be a buyer's market with used cards.
Idk man, I just sold a used 6700XT in 2 days for $400 after I used it for 10 months and it cost me $550.. I could have priced it higher as well if I wanted to also.
@@Deedee48-jg9om Nothing to do with my point on the new or used market change when the new 50xx line comes out. AMD is in a tough spot. There's no new high-end cards coming, and they have to sell current models at lower price. If they don't drop the price soon, people won't buy their cards. If someone does buy their higher tier options, the value loss is massive in the used market.
For example, used market value for 7900xtx should be lower than 4080(S). If there are a lot of used 4080 models available, it drops every GPU model prices below that. There will be a lot of used RTX 40xx cards in the near future. Soon will be a great time to buy mid to semi high tier GPUs.
@@Monsux Well maybe it's just Australia, but as it is. I got a 7900GRE in the last few weeks for $830 AUD delivered. To get the absolute worse PNY or GALAX 2 fan 4070 Super, I was looking at $930 minimum. The 4070 Supers in the good models are $1000+
AMD is priced like that across the board here. Don't see how anything will get shaken up if Nvidia is going to have this similar pricing scheme in the 5x series whilst AMD still offers much better value in terms of $$$.
4080 super is $500 more than an XTX almost here. It's hardly the same bracket.
@@Deedee48-jg9om I was talking about future used prices after the release. Don't care about some random personal used price now in a limited market area, but GPU market as a whole. In the US and Europe, AMD high-tier is priced almost the same tier as similar performance Nvidia GPUs. They will have to drop from around $1000 / 1000€ price to close to 700-800 range. 4080 used models will drop to that range pretty fast, so the whole high-tier market is full of much cheaper high-end cards.
Do you need Max textures at 1440p or even everything on Max or is it all to just get you to spend money
EVGA 3080Ti FTW owner here, still going strong in 2k gaming all ultras
I went with an Rx 6800 for about 350 a month or two ago. I'm just waiting out for the 8800
I managed to pick up a refurbished 7900xt from microcenter for $570 a few days ago. This card is a massive upgrade at 1440p compared to my now old 3070, and a no-brainer at the price I got it at compared to the 4070 super. Unfortunately, the 3070 was never really powerful enough to allow me to play at high RT settings, and the 4070ti super is significantly more expensive, so AMD seems to be the way to go for the foreseeable future for me
just got my myself a 4070super from a 2070 and its amazing
Thank you for your work. You ARE the GPU professor.
Where can I download a Daniel Owen mouse cursor?
Lmao😂😂
Sir, I see you really know your stuff about GPUs and CPUs. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on cloud gaming. I use Boosteroid, which streams gameplay to me from its servers. But I'm curious about the hardware they use, specifically the GPU power needed for high-quality games. Could you look into this topic?
In my country you could get a 7900xt for the price of a 4070 ti super :/ what about that situation?
I got a mining RTX 3080 for 185 just a couple of months ago , has been working great since then no problems so far
i got a 6800 XT for 110 $
Mans puts in alot of work for his videos
Currently, the power color Red Devil 7800xt and the xfx Radeon rx 7900 16gb are the same price on Amazon $549
Would you rather recommend a used 3070 ti 8gb or a 4060 ti 8gb?
Ofcourse new GPU is always better
(For gaming buy a 7700XT for less price)
recommend both for the trash bin. go with 6750 xt
@@Uthleber lmao 😂
I swear when I am watching your videos I feel like a student due to your incredible teacher energy
7700XT at 350 is insane here its 450$, here 7600 at 300 and and RTX 4060 at 330 are the only options. Even 7600 is at 400$.
US prices are always quoted without tax.
@@andersjjensen Even with taxes deducted 7700XT here is close to 400$
If the price of the 5080 is comparable to the 4090 next year, I’ll definitely trade in my 4080s and get a 4090.
If NVIDIA releases two 5080 variants-one being a 16GB and the other a 24GB-and they’re cheaper than the 4090, I’d consider it based on the price and the new tech/AI features that would be included in the new card.
Regardless, with 16GB of VRAM and being a 4K/RT gamer, I upgrade every 2-3 years anyway, and I always get a good resale value and put it towards the new card.
It has been a solid upgrade plan for me. My primary decision to upgrade depends VRAM, and new features, especially for high-resolution and ray tracing gaming.
I never really complained about the prices I paid $749 for my 1080ti, $1.2k for my 2080ti, so of course I’d pay $1k for the 4080s. I only skipped the 3080ti because of the outrages scalping prices . But if the 16GB of VRAM proves to be pathetic the next two years, I’ll sell it at a competitive price, cut my losses and enjoy a new card.
If the 5080 series offers good performance at a competitive price, it could be an attractive option, especially with advancements in AI and other technologies. Given my upgrade cycle, trading in my cards for new models is a decent strategy to maximize value since I like to keep up with the tech. I’ll keep an eye on the benchmarks and reviews once the new cards are released to make the best decision!
I’m a married gamer, who married a gamer and we have no kids. And both work, we can easily afford to enjoy the PC experience. Plus my wife never knows what to get me for gifts so she always gets me a GPU or CPU. She’s amazing :)
nice ❤
@@CaptainScorpio24 Only way to go if you’re an outlier.
I was gonna wait for the 50 series but I found a great deal on a 7900 xtx for 700$ and figured good enough performance upgrade for a good price why not! Also I most definitely expect the 50 series to price gouge a little harder
Got a 7800xt for $419 during the newegg sale last weekend
6800xt FTW
I have a 12GB 4070 Super. It's a great card that performs very well in my use cases, but I'll probably upgrade in early 2026 as I do a lot of video editing and I really like ray tracing in my games so you can never have too much processing power or vram in my eyes. I'll be keeping my eye on the 24GB 5080 or a potential 18GB 5070 Ti or Ti Super as my "budget option".
I switched from a 3070 to a 6750xt recently to get a higher vram option for a reasonable price. I'm waiting for rx 8000 series to drop before upgrading.
Performance wise there wasn't any upgrade, but is the 12 gb of VRAM helping you in the games you play?
@@Radek494 You can go watch one of Hardware Unboxed's videos about it. They showed 12 recent games, if I recall the number correctly, where 8GB cards, that are perfectly powerful enough, have one sort of problem or another (texture pop-in, janky 1% lows, render distance being reduced, etc) already at 1080p.
@Radek494 Performance wise, I wasn't looking for an upgrade. I wanted something that performed close to the 3070 at a reasonable price ($350 on sale at the time) to compare upscaling differences.
Using upscaling on both cards had the same performance uplift, but FSR 3 does not look quite as good as DLSS 2. It holds its own without using raytracing.
As for the 12gb of memory, it does help. I mostly play 1440p medium/high and 8.5-9gb of usage is around the average I experience on these settings.
Picked up a 7900xtx last week for £700. Happy days.
Best option 7900xt or 7900xtx no way 4070series
The bus and amount of memory in 7900xt is dope !💪
Here in the UK, you can buy a 7900XTX for around £800. If you don’t care about RT, buy that.
I built my new pc in October 2023. With a Ryzen 5 5500 and Aorus Rx 580 8gb.
Yesterday i got a used RX 6700 10gb by Sapphire, Pulse model. For £205 😊I know the bduget options from AMD (£400 and below, which i prefer) will take a while to come out. I'm content eith this upgrade.
I'm thinking the GPU argument could probably be boiled down to 3 segments since purchasing a GPU FOR its RT performance is somewhat shortsighted at this time, both GPU manufacturers will be significantly improving performance on the RT front with soon to be updated hardware. RX 6600/6650 xt for budget builds, 7700 xt for midrange builds, especially those utilizing 1440p monitors, last segment can be split between 7800 xt/7900 gre/4070 super with options on either side that will be able to push 1440p high refresh or budget 4k. The Nvidia tax on lower end products that also have their own built in compromises shouldn't be included for those wanting raw performance on a budget, featureset be damned, the performance advantage between sub $400 AMD products and Nvidia's is nearly the difference of a full GPU tier which bodes much better for the future of builds including these GPUs. As for high end products, those are even sooner to be supplanted by much superior hardware from Nvidia and the $800 4070 Ti Super will get replaced by AMD's (presumed name) 8800 xt at $600 or less around the same time, I'd highly suggest not spending a penny more than the $600 for a 4070 super, just for the investment to be wasted.
Ill wait for a 5070 unless i manage to nail an absolute banger of a price for a 4070 Ti S during BF or something like that!
Have a Zoltax 3070ti want something more power efficient that runs mid 1440. The most intensive game I play at this point is Sparking Zero.
4070 to super looks good and O think we will see it on sale for Black Friday. I could maybe sell my old card for $250 ish. Also my board is older (B450m tomahawk max) and I don’t want to go AM5 yet. (Running r7 5800x3d)

I got my 4090 and I'm sticking with it for quite some time.
such great timing, I'm thinking about what gpu to buy for my new build
I bought a 4070 super which arrived yesterday then this video popped up in my feed and im now rethinking my decision but it is a beast of a card from what ive tested
I've had one a few months. Great card. Ignore everything about 5x series. :D
Don't worry about it. Just enjoy your purchase. There are still a few months to wait for RTX 50 plus prices first time gonna be high, and later, Super/Ti versions might come out, too. Plus, there may be a need to upgrade other components to maximize RTX 50. xx70 series are aging well, so you are gonna be okay with its performance. I think time is a more valuable resource. The sooner you get it, the sooner you are gonna play your favorite games with comfort.
If you're on a 1440p monitor you're good. If you did the dum-dum and got into 4k be prepared to use aggressive upscaling.
@@andersjjensen I'm still rocking 144hz 1080p monitor but my next upgrade will probably be 1440p 100hz monitor down the road Im playing cyberpunk on it right now and it runs like a dream
@@maxon1861 I was thinking that when I was buying it 70 series cards hold up really well look at the 2070 super or the 3070 they are still really good cards even after all these years. I upgraded from a GTX 1080 MSI X which served me well for the last few years.
The 6650 xt is pretty okay at $230 at the moment as well about 15% more money for about 25% more performance
12GB VRAM is enough *for now* at 1440p, but we're already seeing it creep up towards 16GB, even at that resolution. I think 16GB is mandatory if you play a lot of modded games with texture packs etc. My Skyrim saves for example are already easily hitting 15GB VRAM usage.
5xxx price expectations?
