Just finished my Ares over Christmas, just wanted to say thank you so much for this video. There is 0% chance i would have been able to get this up by myself without it. Good job bros, i wish i could by you both a beer. For anyone else building this monster, when you get to step 12, please please choose the correct cable, and not have to redo like an hour of work (for my first attempt). As it is painfully obvious in retrospect, i didn't notice the upper and lower cables are different. Additionally, i have to say i hit my head on the REP logo plate approximately 47 times over the course of this build

Easy enough to stop and pick back up again to complete when I had time. The cabling was very intuitive once I dove into it. The pulleys are slick and quiet in use (more than I even hoped). Just a beautiful piece of equipment. A work of art.
Step 3: top back brace has an orientation, not mentioned in the video. Just finished my build and got that wrong. I had to take the back post off and loosen the back part of the rack, adding an extra hour or so on the build to correct the orientation. Maybe call it out in the instructions and at min 2:12 of the video.
Just ordered a 36 mm socket, 36 mm wrench and a 24 mm wrench. I already had the 17 mm wrench and 17 & 24 mm sockets. Now I just need the hardware. Since I bought a 6 post rack with Ares, I will just put together the Ares and rear 4 post first before I install the 30" crossmembers. I will then install the front columns with pulleys attached. Just built my ARES over the weekend and all in all it was an AWESOME experience...this video is a huge help. @repfitness heads up you may want to include an FAQ that mentions the ARES isn't compatible with the Compact Logo Plate. The cross member still works fine but the compact logo plate must be removed. This isn't a big deal...but If I got a cart alert when i purchased both at the same time I could have saved a few bucks. My only other issue was the folder with weight stack upgrade instructions and stickers either didn't make the pallet or got lost along the way. How far behind are shipments? Thr email I got about this video says shipments will be in early Sept, but original email on 8/10 said they would start shipping in a few days. Sometimes delays can't be helped, but communication about those delays certainly can be
I agree and had the same question. Last time I checked with customer service the Ares units were still in QA. I think Ryan said on discord units have just started to ship but based on this email I think we won't see any movement until next week at the earliest.
@@avinashtyagi2 yes, that was the original plan. But orders were supposed to start shipping shortly after 8/10, but it doesn't appear they have yet. So, to me, this means if you were supposed to have yours shipped in Sept, it could be Oct. Now
I just completed my build and I had the same problem. The routing of the cables is terrible. You have to take off EVERY PULLEY to route the Cable !!! TERRIBLE Provide a crimping tool so you can route the cables faster ! You spend so much wasted time routing cables. Otherwise this is a great setup and an amazing video to guide you on your build.
Just one suggestion as a being new to buying home gym equipments would be if you could have the most bought configuration stack for each of your power racks... Finally here.. except didn't come with guide rods for the weight stack, or even cables.. I have everything sprawled out on my gym floor and can hardly begin assembly without these missing pieces. 😢.
The floating pully on the right side on mine keeps twisting, i tried loosening but didnt work, just took it apart and started re-stringing, I see that it is twisting right at the spot where it is supposed to loop around the floating pully even when not connected to it and with a bunch of slack. What should I do?
Just watched this video again to refresh myself for disasembly of the Ares as I just sold it to upgrade to Ares 2.0 OR get dual sectorized Athenas and the sectorized lat pulldown. Decisions, decisions.....
Always worth having the lat/low row built into your rack, unless you didnt use it very much on your Ares. Having the Ares doubles as both whereas the Athena will only be a functional trainer and be harder to do the lat movements and low rows. The Ares 2.0 is definitely worth the upgrade!!
@@REPfitness I do lat pulldowns and low rows a lot as well as pull throughs from the low row. If I do dual Athenas and the lat pulldown, I would have it all, but it is more expensive than Ares 2.0, especially with the 15% off.
Can you do this without leaning the guide rods? Seems like i could install the top plate and hardware and then cross member with pullys on top and keep it all straight. I’m doing the 310 pound stacks and i just don’t want the guide rods bending if i let it lean to much. Starting my install in a couple days.
From the video, it looks like the shrouds are technically optional. Is there any reason (apart from cosmetic - it does look better with them), that I need to install them? Context: I have a nice mirror setup and think the shrouds would block a lot of that particularly while squatting
Hey Dan, I just bought the 80" PR-5000 (6-post) and pre-ordered the Ares 2.0. I plan to elevate the height of my rack 6" using 6x6 beams. I was planning on running a beam down the left and right sides of the rack. Any issue with this vs. just connecting the front and middle uprights on each end and then one beam going horizontal to connect the rear uprights to one another? I'd like to get this done before the Ares 2.0 arrives. Thanks!
We do not recommend this because its not intended to be "floating" or off the ground on how you are stating you are wanting to build it. Any issues that may happen will void any warranties for the rack and attachments. Feel free to reach out to our customer support team if you have any other questions on your Ares 2.0 build- happy to help with any other questions you may have!
@@REPfitness thanks, that's what I couldn't tell from the video is how the Ares sits. I still want to elevate my rack and can include a platform for the Ares 2.0 to rest on because otherwise with my height I wouldn't be able to fully extend my arms for lat pull-downs. I'll contact support to see what my options are.
For best info on this you can email/chat/text or call our customer support team! You should have around 4-6'" behind the rack to be able to connect everything appropriately from the upright. Always want to make sure you have enough room on the top for the pulleys and the back to get around if needed to adjust some things
@17:30 this setup costs $5k and they include a 10 mm Allen wrench that’s too short to screw the bolt down. Do yourself a favor and buy a long or extra long wrench. So dumb they did that. That bolt is holding 310 lbs and you can’t tighten it down with the included wrench.
Sorry that is not accurate. We are working to ship all August orders by EOM, and September, shortly after that. I'll get with CS to see why they gave out wrong info... apologies on that.

@@REPfitness Well things have stalled with installing my Ares system. One of the trolleys is missing the plastic liners and the liner for the other trolley is damaged. I've sent an email to customer service. Hopefully it doesn't take as long as what the automated email said. Would have loved to start using it.
Tall dude was CLEARLY frustrated by the end of the video. Lol. Welcome to gym equipment assembly, bro. Here's a question.......why would I choose a 4000 vs 5000 rack to mount the Ares system on?
How do you do pull downs in the 5000 Ares? I have yet to see a video of how you keep your butt down when lifting heavyweight. If a leg roller is the answer, I do not see how it would work. The Ares would stick out behind you due to the leg roller being attached evenly to the inside of the rack. Is there a pas the is compatible with the 5000 that would push the leg roller back, so that you would be behind where the lat pulldown bar is hanging vs in front of it?
Tip. Hold your hand inside the front pulley and use it to hold the plastic in place. Then it will slide on the front column easily. After it is on, then pull the plunger to place it where you want.
My suspended pulleys keep getting twisted on both sides? They are not staying flush to the rack and it gets worse depending on how high up/down the two front rack pulleys are… any suggestions?
@@esco51202 it’s been a slow back and forth but basically they are saying there could be tension in the cables and that you have to make sure and try and keep them “straight/untwisted” through the pulleys. But I have taken them off and reinstalled 3 times; at the start it’s a little better and then they just go right back to the way they were. I sent another email today.
Having the same issue. Been scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else is experiencing this. Try spinning the d handle attachment on the trolley counter clockwise 4-5 times. I think the cable maybe be twisted. Mine seems to have straightened up. For now at least….
My head plates don't go all the way down to the stack. About a 1/4 gap even with the bolts on the trolley backed all the way out as if my cables are too short. Any suggestions? All the cables are straight and in the pulleys. If I pull the bolt out it's about a half inch short. Only thing I can think to do in the mean time is drop the suspension pulley bolt to the bottom most hole not designed for the bolt. (which works when I tested it)
I would recommend the fix you suggested to get it working now. But shoot an email to orders@repfitness.com with a cpl photos and your order info. We may be able to troubleshoot further, but you've got a working unit till then.
Mike, let me know if you figure out any other solutions, or if Rep provides one. I'm in the same boat. The bottom while on the suspension pulley works, I'm just nervous about using it since it isn't listed as an option
I have the same problem. The cables are just a little bit too short. I was uncomfortable with putting the bottom pulley in that decorative bottom hole, so instead I tightened the bolts where they enter the trolleys to take up some slack, and adjusted it so the adjustment pins line up with the next set of holes on the weight stack. When in use, there's just a gap between the top plate and the next plate in the stack. It's ridiculous, but usable.
@@euphxenos put the stacks at about 60 lbs and pull them up slightly. Let them hang like that for a few hours, that should stretch them out enough. I flipped a j cup upside down and hooked a handle around it to hold it in place.
Done!! Nicely engineered rack. Was fun to put together. Have some trouble getting one side of stack to compketelyclose due to cable tension. But I can loosen it from trolley because I'm already close to it coming back out. Video and printed book are slightly different step number count wise.
I did! I basically just changed the position of the bolts back at step 14B (part 25-0273) to get less tension and expand the length. I figured overtime. The cables will stretch out and then I can place it back into position. Between that, and adjusting the front bolts at the front pulleys it gave me enough to close it.
Nope. That is one of the main differences between the Ares and the Athena... among others - check out the comparison video here ruclips.net/video/N0ezNz-70j0/видео.html&ab_channel=REP
My current rack Rogue RML foldable is on the side wall of my garage where most garages have a very small slope on the floor. I want to buy this but how can I install the rack and get it level? With those weights plates, I will not be able to move this or even put shims under once it is 3/4 the way built. I cannot afford to get it unbalanced the first install cause I will be screwed
I want to purchase the Ares with the PR-5000 6 post but don’t want to pull the trigger until you guys replace the plastic handles. Do you know when that swap will happen?
Already done. Upgraded handles go with all Ares and Athena shipments now. Listened to the feedback and made the change asap. Also helped out all previous customers who reach/have reached out. Always here to help.
Need help. Installing the Ares and when I get to tightening the bolts the upper crossbar starts to go crooked. I loosen all the bolts and tried again with the same result. Anyone run into this problem?
Several of my brackets the pulley doesn’t come off easy like the video. Almost like the brackets were bent or made too small. It’ll come out but takes paint with it on the way out. Not concerned with that but getting the pulley lined up with the bolt hole is being a pain since it’s so tight inside the bracket to make small adjustments lining up. Is this normal or anyone else having else issue?
Hey J - drop a line to our customer support team tomorrow or email them with photos tonight. The contact options are the bottom of our website. They can help troubleshoot anything.
@@REPfitness ok cool thanks I’ll do that tonight and just reply to my order with photos and such. It’s fine once its in there but a pain to remove to remove and put back since it’s so tight. Not all of them are that way. My main concern was I’ve heard not to tighten bolts to much so the pulley can spin freely and since its so tight already not sure how that will effect it.
@@REPfitness I’m still going to email but i figured out the issue. The round cable guide i loosened and pulley comes out easily now. I just need to ask them how tight it’s supposed to be since it has to be loose for the pulley to come out. Not sure if I’m calling it the right name but it’s the bar that goes across i assume so the cable can’t come off the pulley later on.
This is my first Rep purchase, and so far, it hasn't gone well. I love the design of the Ares but haven't been able to use it yet do to what I think is a quality control issue. I've been working with the support team but haven't resolved the issue yet. The logo plate crossmember wasn't in my initial delivery so that caused a delay and now the upper pulley assemblies seem to be the wrong length. I'm posting here to see if anyone else is having the same issue. The Ares attachment depth is 16 inches but the upper pulley assemblies I received are 17 inches. I can make them fit, but this causes the logo plate crossmember to bow and requires a lot of force to tighten all the bolts. The initial response from the support team recommended I watch this video, the upper pulley assemblies in this example fit fine but mine will not fit between the two upper crossmembers as shown here. Hopefully Rep will resolve my issue by sending pulley assemblies that are the correct dimensions but waiting for them to confirm what they will do for me.

Has anyone else experienced the cable trolly system on matte black uprights?? It doesn’t seem to slide as smoothly as some of the other paint coatings.. like in this video. Now I wish I bought metallic black instead :(

You guys lost me at step 5. For some reason the pulley piece doesn’t fit. I’m the space provided, part of me was scared that maybe the wrong pieces were sent but i think that they’re universal for every version.
I'm having the same issue, Rep so far has said I need to loosen all bolts and watch this video, tried everything and they still don't fit correctly. I think the two pulley assemblies are the wrong size (17 inches) and the Ares depth is 16 inches. Rep wants more pictures and videos so they can better understand my issue. Maybe others on here can let me know if I'm doing something wrong or if their pulley assemblies are a different size. UPDATE: I had the rear upper crossmember reversed, the offset side faces in towards the rack and the upper pulley assemblies fit fine now. My apologies for making it sound like Rep had the issue, it is my fault for not noticing this in the rack instructions.
I have this ordered already, but my only concern is having to connect two carabiners for lat pull down and low row. Can you use a triangle row attachment and connect to only one weight stack? Does it have to be connected to two weight stacks? We need more clear demonstration on this. I feel like the best route to go would be to get the selectorized lat pull down and low row, which is a more traditional single carabiner pulley system and also add on the new Athena cable attachment. The only downside I see with the selectorized lat pull down and low row is that it adds 10inches to the depth. Also it would be a bit more expensive going this route.
Using only one side on low row will result in you pulling the weight from an angle as the attachment would be to your right or left. Best to use a banana to connect the two sides and then connect your triangle to the banana. See the following video at around the 12:18-12:22 time stamp. ruclips.net/video/UipOciX80UQ/видео.html&ab_channel=REPFitness
I'm sure Rep will chime in, but (1) you do not have to use both stacks simultaneously, though using one at a time may cause you not to be aligned with the rack ideally, and (2) it comes with what they call the "banana", a piece of steel that connects to the two carabiners and has a single attachment point in the middle, which will allow you to use both weight stacks with only one attachment point for the accessory. If you only want to use single attachment accessories, I'm sure Rep would sell you a second banana to keep one on the top and one on the bottom.
Thanks for the responses. This next question is probably for @Rep Fitness to respond since no one has it yet. So if I were to use the banana attachment, does both the weight stack have to be set on the same amount of weight? Or can I just, for example, use 50lbs on the left weight stack and the right weight stack is set to the lowest? If we could do this, will it affect the weight distribution (will it feel heavier on the left side when using a traditional lat pull down bar)?
@@oldschoolcoolgamefan2650 no need for REP to reply. Physics can tell that it won't work. The banana will tilt until the force torque is balanced (depends on how big the hole is on the banana). meanwhile, why do you want to use different weight? to get more fine choice of weight?
I just built this rack and it's a beast. If there is ever an earthquake... I'm ducking and covering in the Ares rack. 💪

How far behind are shipments? Thr email I got about this video says shipments will be in early Sept, but original email on 8/10 said they would start shipping in a few days. Sometimes delays can't be helped, but communication about those delays certainly can be
I think they said it depends on when you ordered, if you ordered past a date, then you'd get your shipment later.
Now

Which box has the instructions? Just got mine and wanted to know where to start
I just completed my build and I had the same problem.
The routing of the cables is terrible. You have to take off EVERY PULLEY to route the Cable !!! TERRIBLE
Provide a crimping tool so you can route the cables faster ! You spend so much wasted time routing cables.
Otherwise this is a great setup and an amazing video to guide you on your build.
Just one suggestion as a being new to buying home gym equipments would be if you could have the most bought configuration stack for each of your power racks... When is it coming out its been a while
Can you use the weight horns on the back rack still with the ares?
Yes you can - all the way up and down on the back uprights like a traditional 6 post power rack.
Finally here.. except didn't come with guide rods for the weight stack, or even cables.. I have everything sprawled out on my gym floor and can hardly begin assembly without these missing pieces. 😢.
Same thing happened to me. No guide rods.
So weird, i never the guide rods either. They did send them out quickly afterwards though.
The floating pully on the right side on mine keeps twisting, i tried loosening but didnt work, just took it apart and started re-stringing, I see that it is twisting right at the spot where it is supposed to loop around the floating pully even when not connected to it and with a bunch of slack. What should I do?
Did you find a fix for this issue?
@@Jgiamportone023 yes
Yup same thing is happening to me as we speak.

I’d really like to see some reviews on these. I thought these shipped out to people already. I’m surprised no one has a review video on it yet.
Tons of reviews on garage gym reviews facebook group, reddit/homegym, etc. everyone is really happy which is awesome!

Did I watch a 36 minute video on installing an attachment that isn’t compatible with my rack? Why yes, yes I did.
@REPfitness What is the minimum clearance behind the rack before installing the Ares? (please specify if from foot or if from vertical post) Thanks
For best info on this you can email/chat/text or call our customer support team! You should have around 4-6'" behind the rack to be able to connect everything appropriately from the upright. Always want to make sure you have enough room on the top for the pulleys and the back to get around if needed to adjust some things
Is there a video on how to build the Athena cable attachment?
@17:30 this setup costs $5k and they include a 10 mm Allen wrench that’s too short to screw the bolt down. Do yourself a favor and buy a long or extra long wrench. So dumb they did that. That bolt is holding 310 lbs and you can’t tighten it down with the included wrench.
Thanks for the set up video! Can't wait to get mine!
Per Rep CS, they plan on having all August pre orders out in the next few days and should be able to have all Sept orders our by the end of the Month

Most people just use the leg rollers on the back uprights but you can also put the leg rollers on spotter arms too
Take a short video or a cpl photos and contact our support team (link on the bottom or our site). They will be the best to help asap.
Hey Alex. Did you ever get a response on this from customer service? I'm going through the same situation with the twisted suspended pulleys.
Mine is doing the same thing. I use the d handle to twist it back. But I do it often. Getting annoying
Building this will be fun. Then I get to build muscle 💪 with it. Build quality looks top notch 👌.
@@edwarddionne9187 After seven and a half hours with 60 pounds of weight hanging there, my cables haven't stretched at all.
Can you lower the pull-up bar if you want to ensure you have a safer headspace?
Getting ready to do this. I'm staying away from WD30. What silicon do you recommend for REP products? Thanks! 💪🏼
Done!! Nicely engineered rack. Was fun to put together. Have some trouble getting one side of stack to compketelyclose due to cable tension. But I can loosen it from trolley because I'm already close to it coming back out. Video and printed book are slightly different step number count wise.
@@zaneparker3098 did you get a fix for the floating plate yet. Seems like it needs to thread further in to he safe. Mine is the same way.
I did! I basically just changed the position of the bolts back at step 14B (part 25-0273) to get less tension and expand the length. I figured overtime. The cables will stretch out and then I can place it back into position. Between that, and adjusting the front bolts at the front pulleys it gave me enough to close it.
Can you have the stacks on the sides like how the Athena is

Is this compatible with Titan? Or should I just sell it and, get a REP?
The Ares is only compatible with REP. If you want this + all the awesome other stuff we are coming out with.... just sell the other and go REP!
You should make a smith machine attachment for the 5000
Great idea!
Are all the pulleys the same size? If so, would it be easier to remove all of them in the beginning to save some time when routing the cables?
I wouldn't. I'd do 1 at a time to help seat the cable better and help to stay organized
I have the same issue with the upper pulley assembly, found it today. Emailed REP, will see what they say.

Is there a PDF for the installation of the Ares Cable Attachment?
Who needs a PDF when you have this RUclips Video?
Aliot of work there
I have this ordered already, but my only concern is having to connect two carabiners for lat pull down and low row.
@@wangtian2672 I'd rather have to adjust one weight stack than to adjust two every time I want to increase or lower weights.
