I got the Ruby when it first came out on Dec 6. I believe I was very lucky as the weight came in at 8.0 ounces (measured twice on independent scales). For me comparing the dbd and ruby is a much different experience as the ruby feels lighter and the dbd feels noticeably top heavy. The ruby feels much faster in maneuverability (hand battles). The other thing that I notice is the ruby seemed to have a break in period as it played different (better) after about 8 hours. It seemed to soften up and was not as crisp. I’m far from a paddle reviewer but this is my experience. I’m very happy I got a light ruby so it will be interesting to see the weight of others when they become more available.

Good to hear your experience thanks for sharing. That is one of the downfalls of a big weight ranges is one person could get a 8.5oz Ruby and then you got a 8.0oz Ruby and they could play differently.

I’ve been researching on these two for hours. Here’s a bit of my situation. I come from a tennis (but also table tennis) background. I have experience in both. Now, the paddle I used since I started playing “seriously” was the black Franklin signature 16mm. It was definitely time for an upgrade so very recently I got the Joola Magnus 14mm. It was exaggeratedly poppy and uncontrollable and the whole patent situation came around, so I returned it.
Then, someone lent me their GB Pro Control Elongated. I thought I liked it, but then I realized it felt like playing with a brick, hard to explain, just very heavy on impact and a bit uncontrollable. So, after research somehow I ended up between these two.
For my play, I definitely do tennis-like drives with slightly bigger swings and some topspin, but I also love hitting drops (and angled drops) from the baseline, and really controlling my dinks well. I don’t need so much power as I hit the ball hard enough as is, but I also definitely don’t want to feel like I have a dead paddle that just doesn’t respond like I want. I am also working on improving at backhand rolls.
Which one do you think I should go for between these two? Or do you have any other recommendations? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks a lot!

Go check out my Honolulu J2K review, I think that is the paddle for you for sure. Let me know if that seems to fit your bill.

How does the Mark Kinetic compare to these two?

Great question, I just got the Mark Kinetic and will be hitting it a lot tomorrow and this weekend to give a more complete answer.

How does the dbd or ruby compare to my vatic pro prism flash? I'm looking for a new paddle, and I've narrowed it down to these two. I've only been playing a few months, but I'm coming from a tennis background. Thanks

If you want it to be closer to the prism flash then the Ruby would be jt because it has a softer feeling and more spin than the DBD. It also has more power. With the increased dwell time the Ruby would favor former tennis players more.

Which is plusher and better for drops?

Ruby is plusher for sure. If you like plusher and use a lot of spin on drops you’ll like the Ruby more.

When is 6.0 changing the face grit on the dbd to the same grit on the black diamond?

I’ll ask Dale, I know 6.0 is always looking to improve their paddles even after they come out which I love that they are always looking to improve their product.

@@AllDriveNoDropPickleball sweet. I was curious to know if/when they were changing from the tight weave to the more gritty weave Juame is using on his signature paddle.

I got a new cherry face DBD and it had the new grit versus my two month old white face DBD.
