    This was awesome. My daughter is in the 6th grade and has been saying she wants to go to Spelman since she was 5. We homeschool and I am trying to make sure she gets everything she needs so that she can achieve her dreams. We went to a visit day when she was like 8 and I bought her the Future Spelman Graduate shirt and she loves it and wears it all the time. Thank you again for the video.

    Thank youuuu. I received a letter from spelman but I always doubt myself. You actually made me go and calculate my gpa and its at a 3.8. Lol then you gave me the idea to calculate my service hours and they're at 350 hours. I have a fair chance especially with all my honors and leadership. I'm even creating my own program for the community. Thank you. You really are an inspiration.

    Is it still possible to get into spelman college if I start doing like extracurricular activities and community services during my junior year of high school?? Spelman is my dream school and sadly I am just learning about stuff like this... Leadership and all. I have good grades and was in flag football and have honors classes. Could I catch up on community services and stuff like that junior year so I could attend?

I have a 3.1 GPA an overall score of 1490 on the sat and a 19 on the act. i am also the secretary of one club and i am also involved in 3 other clubs. i work a part time job, but i have very little volunteer hours. i have taken 3 ap classes and 4 honor classes and i have 3 years of Spanish.

    I wanted to go to spelman, but im not sure anymore. Lol i dont think i have 6 electives. Ive always taken extra core classes in replacement. Sucks. Also my act sucked and is not a 26. I have many leadership roles, but now for some reason i dont think id be a good fit there. Although i love that everyone is independent and leaders, it makes me feel like thats not me. Not say im not independent or a leader... i dunno. But awesome video!

    • @BrelynnHunt
      @BrelynnHunt  9 лет назад

      I'm so sorry :(
      But I still suggest you apply, I feel like they would be lenient with electives, they really aren't important. And although many people here are leaders, they lead in their own ways, so don't feel discouraged, its still college so there is always somewhere you will fit in at. Also if its not too late, try again with your ACT. Like I said, my score was bad too, there is always a way!

    • @TheIntellectualAfrodisiac
      @TheIntellectualAfrodisiac 9 лет назад +5

      Hey girl, I only take one AP class, 3 honors, and 3 electives. My unweighted gpa is only a 3.4, and the ACT score I turned in (before I took it again) was a 21. However, I do have a lot of community service (although I did not give them the amount of hours -- I just named the things I have/continue to do), leadership experience, and extra-curricular activities. My essay was well written, and I explained my ideas clearly. Even if you don't have some things, find a way to stick out -- show them who you really are besides grades (because honestly I am very intelligent but I didn't have as much discipline as I should have had from 9-11th grade). Explain to them your ambitions and passions. Good luck! Persevere, and don't give up! Remember, If you already have leadership qualities, Spelman will only further accentuate them!

    The thing you said about majors in ALL liberal arts colleges is very incorrect. I myself attend a small liberal arts college, and our major variety is far from limited. The same was true of many of the other liberal arts colleges that I researched in high school. If anyone who wants to attend a liberal arts college, from my prospective, will be able to find a major in just about anything.

At my school they only offer AP courses to juniors & seniors and this coming school year i will be attending a full day career center ( half day common core classes/half day career focused ) & at this school they don't offer honors or AP courses which is a big concern for me. Do you think Spelman would overlook that fact because I went to a career center?

      @BrelynnHunt  9 лет назад

      Jennife Djssodey Its okay girl, calm down, your still in the beginning, you have PLENTY of time! Try again for the teams and clubs that interest you, and if you can stay in them, possibly gain a leadership position. Volunteering is easier than you think, it just takes initiative and effort. Find opportunities in the newspaper, on the web, from your guidance counselor, and through clubs and organizations in your school. You can also join out of school organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, or Girl Scouts, and volunteer there. Or just google volunteer near (your city). Then write down when and where you volunteered, and the tasks you completed so you can list them for future references like scholarships, college applications, and your resume. I hoped that helped. If you have any more specific questions reach out to your guidance counselor or you can email me at brelynnhunt@yahoo.com

      I do have my car, but I don't recommend freshmen having a car on campus, it's not part of the freshmen experience. I park at Morehouse but only because it's cheaper on my family for me to drive myself back and forth from school to home on breaks and holidays. Just wait until sophomore year so you don't have to sneak around.

      Like I said in the beginning of the video, there is no set of instructions of how you can get into Spelman or any school. Your leadership just has to be apparent to the admission office. I would say that sounds like enough, but you never know what they're comparing you with so I can't say.

    I was accepted into Spelman College Class of 2019 and I want to attend. However, since I am not a Clinton or Kennedy, financial aid will play a big part in my decision to attend. What kind of scholarships did you recieve and how generous is spelman when it comes to ensuring that everyone can afford to attend their institution. Also, I will be graduating with my associates degree and wanted to know the school policy on accepting credit hours obtained through duel credit. I would really appreciate your help.

    • @BrelynnHunt
      @BrelynnHunt  9 лет назад

      I personally have only a few outside scholarships, I didn't receive any money from Spelman but there are so many people here who have that I can say they aren't generous but if you make a point to request money where you deserve it especially in comparison to money you've received from competing colleges, they'll be more willing to give. Also people with great community service hours have a better chance of getting a Bonner Scholarship, and most people in the honors program have a scholarship too. But there are people in neither who have a scholarship. I also know people who have transferred a lot of credit hours to Spelman, and are classified as Juniors and Sophmores so it's possible, if not really common. I hope I helped!

      @prettyhooperxo 8 лет назад

      probably you should definitely say the reason for the first two years in your essay! It shows that you're dedicated and even though life hit you a little you can still over come that and be a great student.

    I'm A Sophomore In High School & I Really Want To Go To Spelman . It's # On My College List. But I Took PSATs This Year And My Score Wasn't That Great. You Mentioned Yours Wasn't That Great So I Was Wondering What Was Your SAT Score ?

    • @BrelynnHunt
      @BrelynnHunt  9 лет назад +1

      I can't remember the actual score to be honest, but I don't feel comfortable sharing it if I did because it's that's embarrassing. Sorry, but your PSAT isn't that big of an indication of how you will do on your SAT. Just study and aim for at least an 1160

    Hey I'm a current junior at the number one school in Delaware and I plan on attending Spelman fall of 2016, this video was very beneficial for all prospective students and I thank you for taking time out to make this. I recently went on Spelman's website to try out the net price calculator and it basically said they would only give me about $10,000 towards tuition and fees would you mind sharing some of the outside sources you received scholarships from?

    • @BrelynnHunt
      @BrelynnHunt  9 лет назад +1

      Hey Tiana, thank you for watching, I really appreciate the support. I honestly paid majority of the tuition with loans, however I know that's not realistic for everybody. I received a scholarship from Wendy's All American Athlete for my four years of varsity volleyball, a scholarship for winning Maryland's Distinguished Young Women's Competition/pageant, I also raised/ earned money through being a Debutante. Other than that, once I was accepted the southern maryland chapter of Spelman alumna had a lot of essay scholarships that I won. I'm sorry I'm not of better help, but financial aid is my weakest point where I am still trying to educate myself, but I will say that I made the sacrifice financially, to attend this school. However it was really worth it.

      ka'Deejah Charles Spelman looks for well rounded women, they consider community service as a huge factor. Little to no hours will decrease your chances of acceptance but nothing is set in stone.
