"The secret is to pour over the wick" Can I tell you how much I appreciate you for this video! Lol I've been testing for months! And I'm so close now! thanks to your video!
Im so excited by this tutorial, I have been having the hardest time trying to reach a full melt pool using wooden wicks and I believe I'm having the same issue fragrance overload. I use 10 % with my coco apricot but I'm going to go down to 9 % the next time. I did remelt the candle and added a little more new wax to see if it'll help with the wick situation. I only reach maybe 3/4 of the way to full melt pool in almost 4 hrs!!! So yeah, something was definitely off but I couldn't figure it out until now. I'm so happy that you have had success with your wicks and that you decided to share your knowledge! It's greatly received! THANK YOU!!!!
Yes, from my experience and what I’ve been told & read from the candle suppliers/manufacturers, “less is more” with wooden wicks and they actually perform best when only adding a maximum of 6% fragrance oil. They give an amazing scent throw, much better than cotton wicks and while using way less fragrance oil… so it’s a win/win! Great for helping increase your profit margins saving on fragrance usage.
So happy for your success Michael!! You have worked hard testing, and I have followed you from the beginning. Merry Christmas to you and Matthew. And best wishes for 2021 and for My Candle Romance!🎄⛄🎉🌷
Thank you, Jackie, your comment really touch my heart and it validates all my hard work. You too have a Merry Christmas and hope for a better New Year!
Thanks for sharing. What type of wax are you using? I love using wood wicks since they perform best at only 6% or less fragrance oil. Really helps increase profit margins while also giving a much better scent throw than cotton wicks. Yay, wooHoo! 🥳
From watching a lot of your videos, I see that you like the #7 wax from 16/17. When curing your candles, do you wait the full two weeks, or do you get a good HT before then? Also, I absolutely enjoy watching all of your videos. They’re so informative. I appreciate you for being generous enough to share.
Thanks for your comment, and as far as no.7 wax, sometimes I only have to cure for 2 days and I get amazing HT, it depends on the fragrance oil I use, but usually a week max is what I need to experience the whole strength of the fragrance oils.
Michael, your videos are so teachable! Thank you so much! I love your honesty and hardworking. What are the diameters of these candles? Do you need to cure PB600?
Hello, thanks for your compliment. The vessels are between 3.75 to 4" wide I used 4" for the wick guide, I only cure PB600 for one or 2 days max. Some people cure them for longer, so it depends.
i am so happy for you i follow all your videos can you please help me and advices me what wooden wick wood be good for an 8 oz tin i use 464 gb wax :) thanks in advance
I haven’t tried using wooden wicks on tins, it’s best to test a size recommended by the candle supplier. I use wooden wick co. That’s how I got the size I needed to star testing and adjusted as I needed. I also know that it also depends on the wax you’re working with. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
it's supposed to be used mainly on pillar candles to make the paraffin wax harder, therefore making the candle last longer. I've used and to be honest have not found that much difference, I rather just use Vybar 260 for my candles.
@@gladystrujillo4309 Here's a link you'll find interesting~ www.naturesgardencandles.com/blog/tag/what-is-vybar/ What is Vybar: The candle additive vybar is a substitute for stearic acid. Vybar is also used to help extend the scent throw in your candles. The addition of vybar to your candle wax will make the wax more opaque. You will also notice a marbleized look to the top open portion in container candles. Vybar will also increase your candles melt point and also slightly harden your wax consistency. There are two different types of vybar depending of which type of candle you are making. Vybar 103is used in votive or pillar candles. Vybar 260 is used in container candles.
@@CandleRomance sounds promising. I had read that Vybar isn’t recommended for para soy waxes. But you found it to help your HT, not sure how to proceed now.
Hello what size is the vessel that your using? I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what size vessel will go with what size wick wooden wick can you please help me out! Thanks🤗
@@candacebruno7980 OMG it was so long ago I don't remember which size, sorry. But I'm going to make a video trying the wooden wicks again using my newest favorite wax soy bliss from sixteen seventeen. Be on the lookout for that one, and I'll make sure to add the sizes of everything I use.
Been loving your videos! Learned a lot! 😍 May I ask if its ok if the melted wax pool didnt reach to the edge of jar after an hour of burning? It’s my first time to try wooden wick.
depending on the diameter of your vessel, if you have a 2.5" diameter the melt pool to be reached between 2 and 3 hours after lighting up. If it reaches the edges too fast the you have to wick down and if it doesn't reach the edges in that time you may want to wick up.
Drizzling wax into the wooden wicks does not help in keeping them lit. The only way to keep them lit is by testing wax/fragrance oil/wick combination, and getting the right combination. I no longer work with wooden wicks because they're very temperamental and not consistent, and I don't want to sell a candle that will perform for some and not for others, that's why I decided to only use cotton wicks.
isnt it way to hot ? i did my first tester today and put 2 wicks cuz i heard its better for candle to burn on sides. So container is def hot and i think i have a pretty large pool
It wasn't that hot at the time I filmed the video. I don't use wooden wicks because they were very unpredictable and sometimes they worked great and sometimes they didn't.
@@CandleRomance yeah they really are. i really like how they look, guess should do more test to find a perfect size for my candle cuz first one be hotter than a cup of tea
I have been testing the same wax. I am using about the same size vessel. I have been testing and testing and testing and am happy to share what I have learned. All the flames are too large with any of the crackling wicks with that particular wax so I tried the whisper wicks and the .02 .675 and the smooth .03 . 5. I think this is working better. Flames aren't too big or too small. You might try testing with the whisper wicks. Also, I never pour the wax over the wick and they burn just fine. Hope this helps.
Thank you for this video Michael. I'm in the testing stages and recently made candles with wooden wicks. I've found that it turns the wax brown no matter what I do. Is this normal? Is there anyway to avoid this? Thank you in advance for your reply xx
wooden wicks will always turn the wax brown, it's the color of the wood and it always does. I'm not using them anymore, I find them very unpredictable, so to make my life easier I'm sticking to cotton wicks.
@@CandleRomance Oh right! Urgh, I hate that it happens and changes the colour of my lovely creamy wax. Aww ok, I hope the cotton wick alternative works better for you. I think I may use both but in different vessels.
@@CandleRomance Thank you for replying. I have another question, how accurate do you feel the wooden wick guide from the wooden wick co is? The wick that you used in this video was the wick the recommended?
