      Kinetics need attention, let them sit around for a few months, they let you know about it LML :-P
      Was interesting to see inside when I replaced the capacitor, a little more involving than just changing a regular battery in a watch, but as soon as I removed the rotor I was graced with two large copper coils, and was amazed that the rotor is geared to a very tiny gear, so now I can see how it can create charging energy :))
      I had two SKX's, both the 009's.... then I got a Turtle and the bigger case was more me... I see the SKX series have gone up in price, bought both of mine for under £100, with the second one at £90... sold them both cheap too compared to todays pricing!
      The SKX will be an ongoing classic, the new SEIKO 5's that look like SKX's will never have that side, and their prices are already very low.... SEIKO should've just left it, there was nothing wrong with it, some say it hasn't got hacking or hand wind, well ain't that a curse LML :-P

I know a few are fixed on getting content out to match an algorithm, but is that really what they enjoy doing??? seems like their goal is about numbers to me, and I really like helping those watching... shame many watch my tutorials too late, and would've found it to be a brilliant video to follow, but I'm not in the ranking, as I don't micro brand and hit two videos minimum a week... am a little off track there, and just film what I enjoy instead of what's popular the most.... I love my G-Shocks, but enjoy the vintage 80/90's too, and I'm getting into Citizen's from the late 90's, and found some great pieces, and they certainly don't make them how they used to, more towards being complicated that is LML :-P

I bought this SKJ at the Birmingham watch fair in September, and it was one of those SEIKO's that I have always liked... so nice to get a good deal, but the battery needed replacing, as it wasn't holding charge over night... so £19 later it now has a fullish battery, and I have been wearing it quite a lot, more in the evenings, and I just had to make a video, more towards the logical design side, there has been much thought put into it, and I can imagine it was some money back in 1996... there was one version before this, which has 150 on the dial using mineral crystal, and these are the collectable ones, even if the 200 version had a upgraded module and Sapphlex :))

    Great video, sir, but I have a question, if you don't mind. What happens to a kinetic watch if you don't wear it regularly? I assume it stops eventually. Right? (That's what I thought - LOL) And if you do it regularly (I mean - charge vs no charge), does it affect the watch performance and reliability? This thought always stopped me from considering a kinetic watch.

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  2 года назад +1

      Thank you my friend, pleased you liked the video :)
      SEIKO Kinetic's are like babies, the need picking up and rocking, and don't like running flat... rechargeable watch batteries need to be around the 80% charged most of the time, and letting them fun flat, isn't good for them, as they struggle to charge if left too long.
      I give mine a 2 minutes shake every few days, but failing that, it doesn't take long before they start to double tick, but with a fully charged battery, looking at around 6 months, and pulling the crown might increase that, yet to test.
      One Kinetic is plenty, I have two, and feel that maintenance need. If kept charged, the battery should last 15yrs plus, maybe push towards 20yrs. A normal battery runs about 2yrs on average running a time and date complication, so 7-8 batteries needed to cover 15yrs, and inflation increases, so maybe it levels off, but at least it doesn't need opening in that time :)
      Older Kinetic's should all have their batteries replaced, but even if the battery is flat, you can still wear it like a an automatic, but expect it not to last over night :-P
      Hope that helps you my friend :)

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  2 года назад

      @@MartinLuetzelberger Cheers buddy :))
      To replace the battery there are a few things that are required.
      Firstly the replacement battery will come with a fixing plate and protective film which is designed for that particular battery, some batteries differ slightly I've discovered.
      So once the case back is off, you need to remove the rotor, which is a simple slot head and when removed you'll notice it's attached to a gear, which drives a very small gear on the movement... taking this off is easy just to add.
      Now to the battery, there will be two slot head screws holding this is, so remove the screws and lift the plate out. Laying on the battery is this piece of film, so just lift off, and the battery is exposed and just needs to be flipped out using a fine object.
      The reverse the process backwards using the parts supplied with the new battery.
      When placing the rotor back on, just make sure it drops smoothly back on, needs no force at all, and if it's not seated correctly, just remove and place down again, and you'll soon see when it fits perfectly.
      I was going to film it, but as it's my first kinetic battery replacement, thought best not have that added distraction LML :-P
      Hope that helps you, and it's easy really :)

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  2 года назад

      Hey buddy... being truthful, probably never... it's not that I don't like it, to me it's not a watch that was really necessary, feel it was more about the looks. I've seen one, they look very MTG, but it just looks a little too busy with regards to materials used, and it has lots of different finishes that to me is confusing. I like the braveness of G-Shock, and I'm not against it, more that it's not my style, as I use my G-Shocks as intended, and this would be a G-Shock that I'm really not sure how to use, I have the GPW-2000 Gravitymaster and this is built like what we consider how a tough watch should look like, and I use it for traveling as it's all about time keeping. I understand the GWR-B1000 has some quirks and is bluetooth... is it a watch you're looking at? What's the attraction for you the most, always good to know, and this also helps others who are reading this.
      If I was loaned one, then maybe I would review it further, as spending time with a watch can only give the best and honest review... am sometimes bias with G-Shocks, but often I suggest other bands as I feel it's more suited.
      Hope that helps you my friend :)

      That day has passed, they make them like they're going out of fashion these days... well this has lived, the DNA and scratches tell you this story, now I finally have one it gets much time with me, more about shaking it and keeping it fed, they are hungry watches, so don't buy the set LML :-P
