    Don't every buy because of hype, no matter how or who is pushing it on you. Buy what you like, where it on whatever bracelet/strap you like (I wear my Breitling on a leather strap, sacrilege I know). And do not go outside of your personal budget. Everyone has different tastes, needs and desires. And if you bought something that no longer works for you, sell it, there is someone who will like it

    The quartz PRX is a great watch, but they don't make it in the right size for me, 38mm and I would buy one tomorrow. I love the thought that an Addiesdive is over hyped 😁. I never liked the Sub, but since they introduced the wide lug version and made it more blingy, I think it really is horrible. If the MoonSwatch was priced to its quality, ~£50 I'd be fine with it, as it is, no thanks! Entertaining video thanks.

  • @rogerfairhurst8705

    MoonSwatch No.1? Absolutely. The worst thing about it for me is the total unserviceability. You can change the battery or strap but to get at the movement you have to destroy the watch and the movement itself is completely unserviceable - you can't get to the innards without destroying the movement. And 260 bucks? That's not just a joke, it's a p*ss-take.

    • @DadeMurphie
      @DadeMurphie 2 месяца назад

      That's always been the case with swatch the good news is quartz movement tend last a very very long time without needing service. I just put batteries back in some 20-30 year old quartz watches after a decade of sitting in a drawer and they keep perfect time still.

    • @rogerfairhurst8705
      @rogerfairhurst8705 2 месяца назад

      @@DadeMurphie I agree in general and have also resurrected a number of Swatch chronos that were decades old but not ALL of them wanted to be brought back to life. However, my main beef is with the price tag when considering the real value of a Swatch Moonwatch. A lot of people obviously wanted them, at any price it would seem, but for me, as a potential buyer, it's simply a joke. This is of course: in my humble opinion.🙂

    • @DadeMurphie
      @DadeMurphie 2 месяца назад

      @@rogerfairhurst8705 I agree the price to value ratio is off for the quality of the watch you get. It's an $80 watch with a $200 logo. I think for $100 less they would make more sense but having said that I also bought 2 and enjoy them. I put protectors on the dial crystals and don't wear them for workouts. I haven't run into any of the big known issues.
      I'm just struggling to pick between the black or white dial on an actual Speedmaster professional I'll grab this month and I think they'll look cool sitting in the watch box next to the real thing.

    I totally agree with you. I had an appointment at an A.D. to try on some watches the other day, including several Longines, Oris and Rolex. The overhyped Longines Conquest has a beautiful dial, but is let down by a lacklustre case and a cheap feeling, lightweight bracelet. The Rolex Explorer was pretty ordinary too, with a basic case and printed logo (and there’s the slight issue with impossibly long waiting lists too!). The Oris and the other Longines that I tried were great and I have a difficult task in deciding which one to have for my big birthday!

    Good fun poking at those and I mostly agree strongly apart from the Seiko… I remember when it came out the hype was more about the movement than the watch.
    I’m mostly over the whole GMT thing and it’s clearly not the best NH34 watch but at the right price and with no QC issues I think it’s a solid option though I do find it a little on the large side compared with an SKX (the thickness being the biggest downside).

They promote the hell out of them and after the review they are up for sale. The worst one for that is the time teller. He has a store "a store" were you go to it theres a couple rolex and Cartier and some other bigger named watches, only problem they are all sold and it says they were sold like 4 years ago. The PRX deserves some hype I would argue. Funky retro style, decent Tissot quality, Swiss made (whatever that may or may not mean) and affordable also. Makes more sense as a quartz of course, but then so do many watches in the sub-£1000 segment. It gave a shot in the arm to Tissot's rather conservative range and drew in non-enthusiasts thanks to the design, price point and high profile/wide availability of the brand. My 35mm quartz blue dial looks great, wears well and gets more positive comments than any other watch I own. More convincing than the previous Tissot 'big thing' Visodate I think, but if you just want a traditional under-the-radar 'do everything' Swiss quartz then the slightly cheaper PR100 might be a better choice . . . but no midsize option available of course.

      My first experience coming across the PRX was in a casino at a blackjack table. I thought the guy was wearing a Royal Oak at first and then saw Tissot on the dial and thought damn that's a really nice looking Tissot I should check them out. I had no previous exposure to the RUclips PRX hype train that was behind it. Learning about all the hype for that watch was actually a bit of a turn off. It feels like I'd just be a lemming now if I get the watch but at the same time I did like that watch independent of any hype exposure.

      Omega hype their watches, they pay for scenes in films lingering on their logo, they pay stars to sneak preview unknown models, they pay for scenes dismissing their competition to be written in.
      How do AP hype the RO? They just make it, they barely advertise it, do they pay anyone to wear one? I don't even know.
      I know Max Verstappen is paid to wear TAG (and wears Rolex when he's not on the grid, and he gave his wife a Daytona for her birthday, imagine that, you have tens of millions in the bank, you are on TAG's payroll and the watch you choose for your wife to wear is still a Rolex you walk into an AD and you buy).
      What you're complaining about isn't hype, it's prestige and desirability.
      Many many years ago Arai (motorcycle crash) helmets advert used to be people at the IOM TT, sponsored by other helmet manufacturers wearing Arai helmets stickered up to look like the makes they were sponsored by.

They want 5 times as much for these cereal-box toys (they should be either free, or come for 3 bucks in a cereal box WITH cereal!), as an ORIGINAL all metal Pagani Design with a superb Seiko/TMI VK63 calibre, that is superior to any cheap Swiss wind-up toy clockwork in an Omega, that does not even come with a pop-out cuckoo on the dial!

    I dunno, I absolutely love my ice blue 35mm auto prx. I get compliments every time I wear it (that’s not hyperbole). Way more than any other watch I own, including those more expensive. And, as you mentioned, it spawned the “affordable” integrated bracelet craze.

    Hype does what it’s supposed to do…. Sell things and guess what…it works all of the watches you mentioned have sold in the thousands, and are still selling so why complain about it! You yourself have bought some of them. As for the moon swatch ever since the release I’ve seen nothing but RUclips watch reviewers complaining about how shite they are…..but they have sold thousands and thousands of them and will continue to do so, I think it’s the reviewers who are flogging the dead horse so to speak.

    Seiko deserves the money for that GMT because they developed the movement. I looked at all the microbrands with the NH34, and most of them don't match the utility of the Seiko at that price. Most lack a key element like they have a unidirectional bezel or poor lume. So far, the only other NH34 watch I bought is the Victor Wee microbrand MMI with the unique Turret date wheel, full lume dial, 300 meters WR, and dive bezel.

      Isn't unidirectional bezel a feature on expensive divers or is this a GMT thing? I see people complain if there is any back play on the bezel. I imagine they'd go nuts if it actually moved backwards too.

    Let us just admit that Steinhart destroys Seiko GMTs all day and night: sapphire crystal, better movement (Swiss made) with way better accuracy, better bracelet, better ceramic bezel. F Seiko and f all the fan boys who can not have a real conversation.

      That’s Seiko 5 that makes those GMTs, NOT the same company that makes Presage, GS or Prospex. IT’s like owning a Rolex and not liking Tudor. Get it together buddy! You sound stupid. Get off the swiss fanboy high horse.

    • @kennethg9277

      "Swiss made" isn't by itself a mark of quality (either in terms of design, originality, reliability, durability or even how much of it is actually made in switzerland, bizarrely.)
      A quality product is a quality product because of whatever engineering, manual labor, durability, and innovative design that goes into it... some seikos fit that bill, many don't. Steinharts are fine, some are very good... but there have been plenty of seiko releases that are subjectively and objectively better than most of Steinhart's offerings. The SARX033 springs immediately to mind. The SDGM001 too.

    Seiko as a whole brand is massively overhyped. They were once the budget kings but they are now pushing out similar budget watches for rediculous prices with dreadful quality control, abysmal materials, woeful customer service and they don't even bother to regulate the movements yet people still pay for them because of brand name and 'heritage'!
