the sometimes feel you coming and hunker oown in hopes you'll pass them by if they stay hidden. If they are partially sunning themselves on a path, they may clear the way. Rattlers do it all the time in the US and people have no clue they are inches away from their feet, just well hidden and feel secure. But even rattlesnakes have no clue that they make a noise. they're just terrified and shaking like every snake, and the dead skin on their tail gives them away. Protects them from being stepped on in evolutionary talk.

I have skin dived in victorian waters and other southern waters for most of my near 50 years and have yet to see a wild cray..other than in a cray pot. awesome to see. fyi abalone guts can make good bait, good for ludrick particularly which should be down there. An underrated fish, bleed, get rid of the black tummy lining and eat quickly. YUMMMMM... Spearable too. (The usual, you might be all over this, disclaimer.) happy sailing

50 years?! Yet to see wild? Are you wearing a mask? You do kinda have to get your head into spots, they don't just stand on a rock and tap dance with a top hat. Well, I mean, not during daylight hours anyway.
