I think the key to doing the bit + handle combo would be having 2 or 3 duplicates of your common handle types in the drawer. Most projects I do have at least a couple sizes of screwdriver, so not having to switch bits while working on something would be about as good as a real screwdriver.
For german made sockets and wrenches, Hazet is top notch. I have a lot of Hazet (1/4, 3/8 and 1/2"). Stahlwille is also really good.
PB Swiss has nice color coded allen sets.
I only wish I had even a small amount of your tool collection. It’s insane and massively incredible.

Thank God someone is finally trying to go through and condense all of the drivers / bits down into a functional set. There is so much excess, wasted space, and money spent in trying to purchase the tools that you'll need to work on things. Not to mention an OCD person like me losing his mind. Thank you for doing this !! For the life of me I don't understand why manufacturers don't offer practical sets like the one you're working on.
I’ve never had an issue with my 3/8 snap-on torque wrench battery dying. I think I use twice a year but man I love the simplicity of selecting the the torque you need and the color changing letting you know you’re getting close or over torquing.

Yes please keep the pouches as part of the system even when you have the foam inserts. Love the ability to quickly throw some of the pieces in their travel pouches but have them live in drawer’s normally
Wera2Go bag is what all the Velcro pouches is for. They go on any side of the bag depending on how you set it up.
Yeah, the original version with the patch of what tools are in the wrap are amazing for people who actually use these in the field on the go.

Stahlwille mechanical torque wrenches is a gamechanger. Stahlwille use a patented torsion bar. The measuring element is only loaded when tightened and automatically relieved after tightening. It is not necessary to reset the torque wrench after use. Facom fast ratchet with rotating handle ❤️ Facom made very interesting tools!

I see the kits as a great option for creating a travel pack for you car when you are going to go on a road trip
The great thing about Wera is their color coding. Although I haven't been using any sockets for a while, I still remember that 10 is yellow and 12 is black. Helps a lot grabbing the socket faster. After some time, you develop a habit of remember colors, not sizes. Like to adjust the door on Mercedes you need a yellow l-key. Best small ratchets for me are from Stahlwille and definitely the best torque wrenches. Great 1/2 ratchets (up to 1000 Nm claimed Hazet). Those adjustable Wera wrenches are junk in my opinion - great concept, but everyone struggles to use them. As for Jokers - I don't have them. I don't think they are better than any other wrenches. The only good thing is color coding. What else about Wera...
The plate on the spanner is also to hold nuts in place when working upside-down if you can't get two hands into a space.
Definitely worth looking into the milwaukee ratchet spanners and sandard ratchets. They are super tough and the mechnisms are so smooth and feel amazing. the sockets are also pretty handy with the large writing and flat sides so they dont roll and can put a spanner on them.
Also worth looking at vessel as a potential screwdriver brand with their impact twist screwdrivers and ball grip ratcheting drivers
The real advantage to those L-keys is the HexPlus they developed, they're shaped slightly different to ensure less slippage and are a total game changer for hex heads that may be rounding.
I did the exact same thing with the stubby screwdrivers. The magnet on the stubby handle bit holder is amazing too!
The Zyklop Speed are my main ratchets (and bit driver), I switch to something else only if I need something shallower
This is heaven sent. I’m sure Wera knows what we’d need but makes more selling these kits with a boat load of overlap. Like all other tool companies

That removable/replaceable piece on the wrenches is intended to hold a nut/bolt so that you can fit it into a tight space. Great option to have when working on cars.
The Joker adjustable wrenches are nice and have their place, but i usually find myself grabbing my Knipex Pliers Wrenches first when I need an adjustable.
I've heard unsubstantiated claims that the HF bits are prone to breakage, but i have yet to experience that myself. The HF sockets do leave something to be desired in form, but i do think you still want them in your collection. They'll never be your primary option, but will definitely be useful in certain situations. Sure you can accomplish the same thing with a dollop of grease, but that makes a mess. That trick is better utilized working on ag machinery, construction equipment or trucks...not BMWs and Porsches.
For the L wrench I would highly suggest PB Swiss there are many types of variation of them including ones with knurled handles and the Finnish on all their tools is amazing!

Look at koken sockets they have a hold function also and its metal instead of the tape material i use them all the time they have svivel sockets with hold function deep shallow semi deep 12 point 6 point hex everything their ratchets are top notch also and they have alot of badass tools man youd love it !!!!!!!!

The hammer ratchet is my favourite for suspension work in Canada everything is rusty. Loving the hat by the way.

This a really helpful video on how to cut down on the ridiculous amount of tools you can end up carrying around, especially in European cities, working in houses where you have to park your van a long way from the job. Keeping your initial tool bag light is important. Wera is really annoying with the mismatched kits. They don't even do a simple socket sets that includes standard and deep sockets, instead they pack it out with loads of filler bits, these are still handy bits but don't belong in the same kits.

I admittedly jumped around a little on the video but the one thing Wera offers for some of their sockets sets is inclusion of a complete foam cutout set for cabinets/drawers. For my super casual need of some tools instead of Sonic I might spring for the Wera ones. We'll see.
The wera has proprietary patent on allen key, they are made to tork more and do less damage on the bolt, Only wera! They also sell them with retention berrings on the ball end

I believe that for bits you should check out vessel too, and the assortment of bits could be in a nice wera pouch, the plastic one is very good but believe me you want the pouch! It holds more!
If you keep the tools in the folding pouches but cut off all the flaps and extra material, its a useful way to keep them together in drawers. Not as good as cut foam maybe but if you already have them in pouches why not?
I think its koken that makes a better bolt holding socket no label on the outside
Look at PB Swiss for hex keys. That's one of the tools they're known for.
For digital torque wrench, Stahlwille ManoSkop 714 is the way to go, precision, angle and it clicks at the desire value like a regular click type torque wrench and on modern cars if you do any type of work you need to have angle function and the ManoSkop is king in the way the do it.

Matt you should try the Wera small 1/4 hex bit and 1/4 ratchet Wera mini zyklop 1 and 3. They are a game changer sometimes found in their bit packs or can be purchased separately. The ergonomics are amazing and get you into many tight reach spots. There was also a small passthrough ratchet came in a kit its harder to find I don’t own it but it could be pretty handy i think its called the wera mini zyklop 2.
Or look at the icon version. I have the icon and then I put a small 1/4” ratchet/socket kit together and put it in a small clear Dewalt drill bit case (now I see that Dewalt and Craftsman have copied me and actually market something similar but less tools/sizes, and space not as well utilized. The Wera version is kinda cheesy since they use a bunch of wonky sizes and bits and they are way overpriced (this comes from someone that has several wera screw drivers)

I totally understand trying to go to bits and handles to reduce storage space. However I have to admit no one likes chasing and swapping buts. When you have actual screwdrivers you grab the ones you need for the job and there is no time wasted. Yes this is a huge expense to have all screwdrivers but if you are really obsessed you can’t go wrong

The flats on their bits look like parallel straight blades like gunsmithing or pb swiss straight screwdrivers. The straights on their real screwdrivers are angle. Both have their unique uses

I always chuckle at these videos, because I often disagree with the philosophy, but I almost ALWAYS agree with the conclusion.
My main issue with Wera is the lack of “master sets” they sell a thousand packages that have skips and then you end up having a bunch of duplicates. The pouches are great for a service tech, but it’s not very compatible with how American techs use their tools
Hear me out Matt, buy every "performance tool" tool off rock auto and give your opinion. I have the pt number w38101 and it's got a super small head and I love the thing to death. Not high end by any means but if you use it long enough you might see the advantage of the small head.
Don’t invest too much in standard T Handles. Everyone seems to be going to Sliding T handles. Every time I turn around, some other tool company is coming out with them. Facom, Beta and Park tool (bicycle tool brand) are the best I’ve felt so far.
Which corvette did you order?
Look at Koken sockets from Japan. Another consideration for selecting sockets is how thin the walls are, so you can get them into tight places.
After over 40 years of using tools in the automotive industry, you realise that no one tools maker makes the best of everything. For example I think Stahlwille 13 series spanners are the best first spanners to buy as they are thin and fit in to places others simply can’t.

The Hazet combo and ratcheting wrenches are pretty nice, nothing special but highly functional

You can get the hold function sockets from I believe Koken Zeal. Its a pain in the ass to get full sets of stuff from koken if your trying to get decent pricing. They don't do master sets the way american's like their no skip sets.
PB swiss micro screwdrivers are no better than wera kraftform micro.
The misalignment between the shaft and the handle is severe. This makes rotating them quickly more difficult.
I duplicated my whole wera collection with PB Swiss and I prefer the wera honestly.
The PB Swiss bit blocks however are the perfect amount of holding force/vs ease of bit removal. I highly recommend the PBSwiss bit blocks for holding sets of driver bits.
I know you’re not a fan of the flat head bits bc of the shape but the ones you shown appear to be hallow ground to where they have parallel faces which is far superior to the typical tapered style which tend to strip out more screws bc they only make contact with the very top edge of the screw and the part at the bottom doesn’t make any contact. I know I’m not explaining the intricate details of this as best as I can but if you look up gun smithing slotted screw drivers you find all the information on this.
Sure normal tapered slotted drivers have a use but honestly it’s more as a prying tool than a screwdriver.

Can you believe those Snap-on people actually like that stuff. It's a Dixon flannel with poinsettias that have wrenches and VW buses coming out of them.
the Wera L keys are the best for hex/“Allen” style fasteners, no need to look deeper into L keys
One good thing about snap On impact sockets is they are a bit beefier than others I have used. They have moved a few things things that other brand impact sockets wouldn’t. Other than that meh.

I'm getting into Proxxon Industrial for ratchets/sockets myself. Been very satisfied with how they feel (to me) vs the Wera sets I have. Might not have as wide of a catalog as you're looking for though.

Wera definitely seems more like tools for collectors and not people that actually use them. Every review I find the tools are brand new or in edc kits that never get used. The website looks like a bunch of hipsters work for them

Matt I will tell you right now, if you build a kit with the universal handle (T-handle, micro, etc.) and every single bit that goes with said handle and is necessary for any possible application everyone will be throwing their money at you.
So I will be waiting for your solution on this. This excites me a lot.

Koken and Stahlwille are tops for ratchets, sockets, accessories etc….Wera has nice hand drivers and bits but PB Swiss is better and Wiha is an equivalent.
