Pick #9: Budgie's Bandolier. One of my favorite bands that I had discovered from SoT. Pretty much any of the first six albums are hard to go wrong with. #31: Bad Company's Straight Shooter #30: Steve Hackett's Voyage of the Acolyte #29: Kiss's Alive #28: ZZ Top's Fandango! #27: Scorpions' In Trance #26: Hawkwind's Warrior On the Edge of Time #25: Nazareth's Hair of the Dog #24: Eloy's Power and the Passion #23: Renaissance's Scheherazade and Other Stories #22: Doobie Brothers' Stampede #21: Jethro Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery #20: Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow #19: Thin Lizzy's Fighting #18: Gentle Giant's Free Hand #17: Supertramp's Crisis? What Crisis? #16: Electric Light Orchestra's Face the Music #15: Grateful Dead's Blues For Allah #14: Fleetwood Mac's Fleetwood Mac #13: Heart's Dreamboat Annie #12: Styx's Equinox #11: Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here #10: Rainbow's Rainbow #9: Budgie's Bandolier
Also my first Budgie album. I thought the cover and pics on the back looked cool. I went record shopping with a buddy. We'd never heard of them before. I bought Bandolier and he bought the self-titled debut album (also great cover art and a cool bio on the back) I now have the complete official discography plus a few extras
23) Thin Lizzy - Fighting By the time that this album came out in 1975, I had been a fan of Thin Lizzy for a couple of years. I got into the band after hearing "Whiskey In The Jar" on the radio. I went out and got Vagabonds Of The Western World, the album that song came from not long afterwards. Nightlife, the band's next album was the first to feature the classic lineup of Phil Lynott, Scott Gorham, Brian "Robbo" Robertson and Brian Downey. The record included "It's Only Money", "She Knows", and the soulful ballad "Still In Love With You" featuring vocals by the great Frankie Miller and a stunning guitar solo by the legendary Gary Moore. After hearing those gems, I was eagerly anticipating Lizzy's next release, and I was certainly not disappointed. Fighting was the first truly great Thin Lizzy album. The band hits its golden era here with the twin guitar harmonies of Robertson and Gorham providing the drive and power that Phil Lynott's songs really needed. Opening with a strident cover of Bob Seger's "Rosalie", followed by the vibrant "For Those Who Love To Live", and featuring the defiant pairing of "Wild One" and "Fighting My Way Back", plus the swashbuckling '70s guitar bravado of "Suicide", the gorgeous, atmospheric "Spirit Slips Away", and the celebratory "Freedom Song", Fighting sets the stage for the following year's bust-out album, Jailbreak. There's not a single weak track on this record, and I don't understand why it wasn't a bigger hit. Also, the powers that run the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame need to answer why Thin Lizzy has failed to garner even a hint of their attention. Lizzy, along with bands such as Grand Funk Railroad, Blue Oyster Cult, Humble Pie, and Jethro Tull, should be locks for the Hall. 1) Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver 2) Emmylou Harris - Elite Hotel 3) Black Oak Arkansas - Ain't Life Grand 4) Bob Seger - Beautiful Loser 5) ZZ Top - Fandango! 6) Eagles - One Of These Nights 7) Linda Ronstadt - Prisoner In Disguise 8) Neil Young - Zuma 9) Bob Marley & The Wailers - Live! 10) Strawbs - Ghosts 11) Jethro Tull - Minstrel In The Gallery 12) Angel - S/T 13) Crack The Sky - S/T 14) Rush - Fly By Night 15) Grand Funk Railroad - Caught In The Act 16) KISS - Alive! 17) Ian Hunter - S/T 18) Hank Williams Jr. - Hank Williams Jr. And Friends 19) Elton John - Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy 20) Queen - A Night At The Opera 21) David Bowie - Young Americans 22) The Who - The Who By Numbers 23) Thin Lizzy - Fighting
Agreed, Lizzy are at the top of the list of overdue HOF inductees. Were you in the U.S. when you were turned on to them in '73? If so, bravo, you were one of the few Yanks with cool enough taste to clock 'em! I don't know that Hank Williams Jr album, will check it out. A recent discovery for me is some swamp/southern rock from an old school rocker, Travis "Scratchy" Wammack, Not For Sale.
@@Fastnbulbous1969 I was in the U.S. at the time. I first heard "Whiskey In The Jar" on a late night show on a Philadelphia radio station. I haven't heard of Travis "Scratchy" Wammack. I'll have to check him out. Thanks for the tip.

#9 Heart - Dreamboat Annie I almost made a big mistake. Until yesterday this album was not on my list. But after reading a few comments about it, I listened to the record and changed my mind. This is much more than a couple of hits…it’s great all the way through. Ann Wilson has a beautiful voice. And she plays a flute like Ian Anderson. Nancy is amazing with an acoustic guitar in her hands. They both composed every tune except one which was “Sing Child”. Lead guitarist Roger Fisher and bassist Steve Fossen help with the writing of this near Heavy Metal gem. It’s the heaviest song on the record and Fisher goes through the Jimmy Page, Richie Blackmore guitar style, and it’s wonderful. Ann’s flute makes it sound a bit progressive like it was a Jethro Tull tune. “Magic Man” is one of the greatest rock songs of all time. Ann sings great. Roger Fisher plays electric guitar dripping with sustain. Steve Fossen’s bass is very fluid and powerful. It’s quite a song ! “Dreamboat Annie(Fantasy Child)” follows as a pretty short but wistful introduction of the albums theme song. This is a beautiful song at just 1 min. “Crazy On You” is the other great song on the record. It’s a funky hard edged pop song that is astonishing as sung by Ann. She sings softly on one tune, and belts it out with ease on another. Back then in my teens I was taken aback by Ann’s beauty when I first saw her face. It reminded me of something that I read from history that I thought I would share. What’s the line???…Well it’s from Christopher Marlowe’s play “Doctor Faustus”(1604) “Was this the face that launched a thousand ships/and burnt the topless towers of Ilium. (About Helen of Troy). Many of the songs have a nautical theme on Dreamboat Annie. I was in the Navy when this album came out; so I was just feeling the waves again for a moment. (After being on a rolling ship, the feeling is there with you forever). “Soul of the Sea” with the sound of the sea is a terrific longer cut at over six minutes. It is in three parts very similar to The Beatles “A Day in the Life”. At the bridge it conjures up memories of Led Zeppelin songs of the past. Ann even sounds a bit like Robert Plant. Anyway this song sold me on the bigness and true grandeur of this debut album. I think this first side is a perfect 20 min of great music !! Side two starts off with “White Lightning & Wine”. It’s a nice rocker. The rhythms and the lyrics flow so smoothly on this tune. It’s funky with a biting guitar finish by Roger. “(Love Me Like Music) I’ll Be Your Song” is sweet and pretty. It’s simply a very good Pop/Rock song. After “Sing Child”, which I have already talked about, comes another fine song called “How Deep It Goes”. It’s a shimmering beauty with strings added. There are a few orchestra touches all over this album which add to the warm texture of the music. “Dreamboat Annie (Reprise)” is at four minutes the longest of the three theme songs. This one has a piano intro, and a violin & timpani finish. Sea sounds are added for atmosphere on this and a few other tracks on the album. One memorable line is “riding on the diamond waves, little darlin’ one”. Many of these lyrics stick with you. Classy ending to a remarkable album. Overall I give this a five star rating. I was overwhelmed by this album yesterday. I can’t believe I almost left it off. I’m glad I could put it on my list of 31.
@@Fastnbulbous1969Thanks Fast ! I heard the hits for years and I had skimmed the album before. I heard “Magic Man” back when it was released in 1975. But I never really let it play in its entirety before. You can hear something and not be really listening. I Really listened and came up smiling.

Renaissance - Scheherazade & Other Stories The 6th studio album by the English progressive rock band with their unique blend of rock, classical, folk & jazz topped off with Annie Haslam's glorious voice. Trip to the Fair and Ocean Gypsy are great, but the highlight is the spectacular 24 minute epic Song of Scheherazade.
DAY 23=THE SWEET= Desolation Blvd Hi friends. A real good album US version of album and the UK and their Sweet albums and such were pretty good. Sweet could always rock and with good tracks and pop and sweet stuff and all that that one could feel to love like I do, Especially this album. ============= Desolation Boulevard was released in the United States and Canada in July 1975. It was different from the U.K. version and included several songs from their previous album Sweet Fanny Adams in addition to the "Ballroom Blitz" and "Fox on the Run" singles. Sounds just fine, today, Pete! And so does 'Dreamboat Annie' - wonderful album and already on my list. Today for me it's the band Procol Harum with their 1975 album 'Procol's Ninth'. Great variety from Procol Harum on most of their albums, and often fairly unusual instrument combinations to go with interesting lyrics. The opening track, 'Pandora's Box', is worth the price of entry alone. 1. Ambrosia - Ambrosia 2. Barclay James Harvest - Time Honoured Ghosts 3. Be-Bop Deluxe - Futurama 4. Camel - The Snow Goose 5. Caravan - Cunning Stunts 6. Clannad - Clannad 2 7. The Doobie Brothers - Stampede 8. Eagles - One of These Nights 9. Electric Light Orchestra - Face the Music 10. Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac 11. Kansas - Song for America / Masque 18. Kayak - Royal Bed Bouncer 19. Little River Band - Little River Band 20. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy 21. Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Nightingales and Bombers 22. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here 23. Procol Harum - Procol's Ninth
Day 23 Fleetwood Mac s/t (White album) The arrival of Stevie Nicks and Lyndsey Buckingham in the band took Fleetwood Mac in a completely new direction, from a blues outfit to a West Coast soft rock band. Stevie and Lyndsey wrote six of the eleven songs on the album Stevie wrote one of the most popular songs on the record, Rhiannon, Landslide also penned by Stevie. Christine McVie contributed with Over My Head and the successful single release Say You Love Me. Favourite track is the rather brooding Buckingham song I'm So Afraid. World Turning and Sugar Daddy two more great tracks. Song title that maybe should have been included ,You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet 😀
Day 23 pick. Hair Of The Dog by Nazareth. The title track opens the record and features prominent cowbell, a guitar/voicebox solo and vocalist Dan McCafferty spitting out the chorus of "now you're messin' with a sonofabitch". The rest of the band (Manny Charlton on guitar, Pete Agnew on bass and Darrell Sweet on drums) make a fine noise. Big riffing hard rock with Dan's amazing vocals - you can hear the influence he had on a certain Axl Rose. Another big Manny riff opens Miss Misery. More dirty hard rock, melodic but ass kicking. A cover of Randy Newman's Guilty is a complete change of pace. A country style ballad with slide guitar and electric piano and a fine vocal from Dan - surely one of the most under rated singers around. Side 1 finishes with Changin' Times. A Zep-esque riff and vocal line (play this and Black Dog back to back) closes the first side. Side 2 opens with another cover. Nils Lofgren's Beggar's Day segues with the band self-penned Rose In The Heather. A nod to their Scottish root's perhaps. Whiskey Drinkin' Woman is almost southern rock. County-ish, blues-y. The albums longest track comes next. The 9 minute plus Please Don't Judas Me. A kind of proto power ballad, that builds from a delicate opening to the full band backing a great Manny Charlton guitar solo. The album closes with another cover. This time it's a ballad made famous by The Everly Brothers. Love Hurts was a hit single all over the World. One of those songs that made folks all misty eyed and when they tried to hear something else by the band, they would've been scared off by Dan's 40 cigs and a bottle of whiskey a day vocals. Nazareth. One of the most under rated bands to come out of The UK in that period.
JESSE COLIN YOUNG SONGBIRD. Yes, him of Youngbloods fame. I love his voice and this album has a mix of some old songs, Sugar Babe, country inspired tracks such as Slick City and America influenced numbers such as Josiane, another old Youngbloods tune. Gentle rock knitted together by JCY’s mellifluous voice.
Hey Shaun. I never heard any solo works by Jesse Colin. That song called, "Get Together" by The Youngbloods sends me to "happy place" everytime that I hear it. I'm listening to it as I type this.
My favorite albums turning 50 In no particular order: Day 23: Deep Purple - Come Taste the Band Come Taste the Band is the tenth studio album by Deep Purple, This incarnation of Deep Purple consisted of Jon Lord, Ian Paice, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, and Tommy Bolin. Hello Pete and everyone. My choice for today is by one of the most commercially popular bands of all time, who have never been considered ‘cool’ by most music fans or critics: 9. Eagles - One Of These Nights The album includes three hugely successful singles (One Of These Nights, Lyin’ Eyes and Take It To The Limit) that are all great songs, but these aren’t my favourites from the album. Instead, I prefer Too Many Hands, After The Thrill Is Gone and the instrumental Journey To The Sorcerer. I also love the beautiful farewell message from Bernie Leadon in I Wish You Peace. Despite the arrival of the great Joe Walsh, I believe the band somehow lost some of their identity when Bernie left. 10. Heart - Dreamboat Annie Nos. 11-30 (not ranked) Jefferson Starship - Red Octopus Tommy Bolin - Teaser Rush - Fly By Night Journey - self titled Thin Lizzy - Fighting Be-Bop Deluxe - Futurama Styx - Equinox Rory Gallagher - Against The Grain Doobie Brothers - Stampede Supertramp - Crisis? What Crisis? Deep Purple - Come Taste The Band Roxy Music - Siren Kansas - Song For America Foghat - Fool For The City Little Feat - The Last Record Album Wings - Venus And Mars Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow Nils Lofgren - self titled Steely Dan - Katy Lied UFO - Force It Favourite Live Album : Blue Oyster Cult - On Your Feet Or On Your Knees
@@bryanbyrde8338 hi Bryan. Marvelous pick and article. We’ve got another match here. I don’t have my list up today. Because of problems since yesterday afternoon. But yesterday the list is on it.
Hello Bryan, well I think you'll know l approve of your choice today 😅. Super album and l agree with you too about Too Many Hands (one of my favourite Eagles songs) and Journey of the Sorcerer. I'm probably going over old ground here, but One of These Nights and the three earlier albums are the best they recorded. (IMHO 🤔) Cheers again and take care.
@@keithjones6023 Thanks a lot, Keith, I think we both agreed before that Desperado is probably our favourite Eagles album but this one isn’t far behind. I think the 3 hit singles from here have probably just been overplayed on the radio. I feel similar about Take It Easy as well, although I don’t think that about Desperado or Tequila Sunrise for some reason.
Pick 8 - Robin Trower - For Earth Below. I'm really warming up to this one lately. It's excellent in its own way. I just had to stop comparing it to Bridge of Sighs.
My Day 23 pick is an album released on February 28, 1975 and recorded in 1974-1975 at Soundstage (Toronto); Record Plant East, Electric Lady and A&R Studios (New York City) and produced by Bob Ezrin I'm talking about the debut solo studio album by American rock musician Alice Cooper, Welcome to My Nightmare. The Alice Cooper band broke up by spring of 1974, with Cooper beginning work on his first solo project.[8] Cooper intended the music to be more theatrical than the previous glam rock focused records.[8] Alice Cooper's manager, Shep Gordon had a clause in his contract, that allowed the members of Alice Cooper to do a soundtrack album for a different label, other than Warner Brothers. As a result, Shep Gordon and Alice Cooper went to Atlantic Records, a sister label to Warner Brothers, to begin work on the album. Cooper hired Bob Ezrin, who had produced four previous Cooper records, to collaborate with him.[8] Ezrin, Steve Hunter, and Dick Wagner had all performed on the Alice Cooper band’s 1973 studio album Billion Dollar Babies, produced by Ezrin. Subsequently, Ezrin produced and performed on Lou Reed’s 1973 concept album Berlin, including Hunter, Wagner, and Tony Levin. Reed’s band on his following live album Rock 'n' Roll Animal (1974) was composed of Hunter, Wagner, Prakash John, and Pentti Glan. Ezrin and Cooper hired all four members of Reed’s live band, plus Levin, to work on Cooper’s new album.[8] Wagner and Ezrin would co-write the majority of the tracks with Cooper. The cover artwork was created by Drew Struzan for Pacific Eye & Ear. Rolling Stone would later rank it ninetieth on the list of the "Top 100 Album Covers of All Time".[4] Famed horror film star Vincent Price provided a monologue in the song "Devil's Food". The song "Escape" was a rewrite of a song by the Hollywood Stars from their shelved album Shine Like a Radio - The Great Lost 1974 Album, which was finally released in 2013.[5][6] The ballad "Only Women Bleed", released as a single, is a song originally composed by guitarist Dick Wagner for his late-1960s band the Frost, with a new title provided by Cooper and revised lyrics written by Wagner and Cooper.[7] The remastered CD version adds three alternate version bonus tracks. A sequel concept album, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, was released in 2011.In 2020, while being interviewed on the Bob Lefsetz podcast, Ezrin recalls that; Alice Cooper's manager Shep Gordon, had a clause that allowed the Alice Cooper band members to make a soundtrack album for another label. As a result, the album needed have a storyline to become a soundtrack, that would subsequently be adapted into a film or television show. Ezrin and Cooper came up with a story concept for the album, with Cooper telling the story of the nightmares of the character Steven.[8] During the Bob Lefsetz podcast, Ezrin recounts that he and Alice Cooper initially created the storyline, in which a rock star named Steven and his mistress are on a private jet flying over the Rocky Mountains. The jet crashes, and both Steven and his mistress disappear. However, 28 days later, Steven emerges alone and unharmed. During those 28 days, Steven became a vampire and he now lives out his days as a rock star by day and killer at night. The album was ultimately adapted into a television show called Alice Cooper: The Nightmare. The story behind Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare is about a child named Steven who has nightmares. The album's songs are meant to be played in order, taking the listener on a journey through Steven's nightmares. My Pick today is ! Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow is the debut studio album by American/British rock band Rainbow, released in 1975....BTW the sound is awesome today!...Great Pick Pete love Heart always have
#9 David Bowie - Young Americans It must have been quite a surprise when this album came out in '75. The white duke recording a funk and soul album. For me it is a good Bowie album although in some songs Bowie's voice doesn't fit. The song with Lennon (Fame) is an instant classic. Albums That Are 50 Years Old in 2025 #9 David Bowie - Young Americans #10 Invisible - Durazno Sangrando #11 Parliament - Mothership Connection #12 Roxy Music - Siren #13 Bob Marley and The Wailers - Live! #14 Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks #15 Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac #16 El Reloj - El Reloj #17 Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare #18 John Lennon - Rock 'n' Roll #19 Kraftwerk - Radio-Activity #20 Ted Nugent - Ted Nugent #21 Scorpions - In Trance #22 Neil Young - Tonight's the Night / Zuma #23 Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte #24 Kiss - Dressing to Kill / Alive #25 Patti Smith - Horses #26 AC/DC - TNT #27 Neu! - Neu! 75 #28 Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time #29 Budgie - Bandolier #30 Steely Dan - Katy Lied #31 Tangerine Dream - Rubycon
@sunsin1592 Agreed! Its sublimely beautiful and lyrical for thematically the same song as "Shook Me All Night Long"!😂😂 ..you know what I mean.😁 Swear to.God I just played this song like 12 times in a row last week.
Day23-Nazareth-Hair of the Dog. This British band with a Scottish singing Dan McCafferty, plays great music on Nazareth’s best album. His unique voice makes songs like Hair of the Dog,Miss Misery and others sound great. Also there’s great guitar work by Manny Charlton. The remake of the Everly Brothers song Love Hurts,is also a good ballad. That is my number 23 pick.
Great choice and also mine for today! 9 - Heart, Dreamboat Annie Crazy on You has long been my favorite song from Heart but this is one of the best debut albums out there.
My Day 23 Pick: Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery This opens with the amazing title track, and closes out with the epic "Baker St. Muse" and the short outro "Grace." I absolutely love "Cold Wind to Valhalla" and "Black Satin Dancer," as well! Honestly, while it's perhaps not as big as some of their other albums like Benefit, Aqualung, Thick as a Brick, and A Passion Play, this actually might be my favorite Tull album. Martin Barre is on fire with his axe here!
Going with Rushs underlooked 75' album today with Caress of Steel! Features great tracks like rocker Bastille Day and introspective Lakeside Park and quite rocking and funny Think I'm Goin Bald. The 2 epics of the album are worth the price of admission alone to me. Necromancer and Fountain of Lamenth are just excellent progressive rock tracks. Always boggles my mind that this went nowhere but when they copied the formula a year later it was a hit
Logan great pick. I prefer COS over 2112 most any day. Necromancer section 2 invented progressive metal imo. Love Fountain as much as 2112 epic. Gtr solo fade in Bald is one of Alex’s best. Bastille Day is a smokin opener.
Pete I hope your busy schedule 📅 🙏 gets sorted out , your show is greatly appreciated 👏 . Especially the UK Connection 🇬🇧 😍 every 2 weeks, you guys 👦 cricket me up , great cameradiarey and great banter amongst yourselfs. Brilliant 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏.
Day 23 - Pick #9 = ZZ TOP - Fandango! A fine serving of Texan boogie blues-rock brought to you by two guys with beards, and one guy named Beard! I got this album way back in 1975 for my birthday - a gift from my Mom. Side 1, the live side, is packed with highly energetic performances. Side 2 from the studio is chock full of classic Top tunes. Highlights: Heard It On The X; Backdoor Medley; and Blue Jean Blues
Hey Gary. You lucky dog! You had a mom that bought you rock albums. I'm a little envious here as my parents were good ones growing up but they were totally against rock music. That went double for my father. Until this day he brags about throwing my record player out the window. (The offending record at that time was "The James Gang Rides Again".) I'm reminded of that story because I just replaced that album on CD a couple of days ago.
My choice for today is Stampede by The Doobie Brothers. The album includes a great cover of Take Me In Your Arms but my favorite song on the album is Neil's Fandango.
Listened to that great album the other day in my car. Such a strong record, my second favourite after The Captain and Me. Although l do have a few of their later albums, not as enjoyable as the early Tom Johnston recordings.
@@keithjones6023 The Captain and Me is a good one. The short instrumental Busted Down Around O'Connelly Corners was written by a street singer named Jim Page (his legal name is listed as James Earl Luft on the album) who was a street singer in Seattle back in the 70"s.
I've given a lot of replies for Uncle Teds debut but never told this little story. When my teen-aged daughter was in high school she had a boyfriend. Both he and my daughter wanted me to show them how to play something cool on guitar. My youngest, then in grade school wanted to join in too. Perfect, I own four guitars. I set up chairs so they could all see what I was doing and put on the song "Stranglehold" It's a simple yet very effective riff. It was a struggle but they had the basics down fairly quick. They did so well that their next lesson was, "Mannish Boy" by Muddy Waters.
Absolutely Tom!!!! One of my first 8 track tapes I bought from my picks from Colombia House. Didn’t know anything just took a chance because this dude just looked cool on the cover. Also got Free For All in the same lot. 😁
I got to see them touring this album at the PNE Gardens, Vancouver ( a 2,700 capacity venue) They were the opening act, with April Wine being the headliner on their "The whole world's goin' crazy" tour. I already had the Dreamboat Annie album based on Magic Man being on heavy rotation on the radio. I was there to see Heart and they didn't disappoint. They ended with a killer version of Rock and Roll. After their set, Roger Fisher (no relation) stood in front of us and watched the April Wine set. They rocked, and put on a great show complete with a confetti firing, chrome cannon as pictured on the cover of their classic Stand Back album. I attempted to get Ann Wilson's autograph that night but she told me she couldn't at the moment because "If I sign one for you, l'm going to have to sign one for everyone ". I understood, but was disappointed as you could imagine. I was later in a band that had the pleasure of recording at Mushroom Studios. A great vibe to the room and a killer echo chamber. Great memories... unfortunately, as like a lot of great studio's of the past, it has been replaced by a block of condos 😢
9. Armageddon One and only album by " super group". Keith Relf of Yardbirds Martin Pugh guitar of Steam Hammer, Bobby Caldwell drums of Captain Beyond, And Louis Cennamo of Steam H. Great mix of Proggy Hard Psych ROCK. 5 songs, lots of jamming great guitar and drums. Last Stand Before great hard rock song with jamming harmonica by Relf. Way under the radar, due to Relf emphysema, and his tragic death by electrocution while playing guitar! I recently discovered this one on the Tube. One of the most played album since. All music gave it 4.5*. Try it you'll like it!
Fantastic album Ziggy! I wish they would've / could've done more. Martin has re-ignited Steamhammer after over 50 years. Their new CD "Junior's Wailing Again" is mighty powerful. Hope you're staying warm -- it's actually not too bad here. Finally caught a little break from the angry, intense snow and temps!
Killer album love it. Knows what could have happened to the after the one and done. Kill the opening for Martin Pugh a buzzard is just unbelievable it gives budgies breadfan to run for its money in the best opening riffs. Of course Martin Pugh I never realized he played with rod Stewart on his first album The rod Stewart album that's just awesome guitar licks that we're getting laid down on the song blind prayer one of my favorites from Old rod
my pick today is paul mccartney and wings "venus and mars rock show" fav track " venus and mars rock show" this is where i make people mad, this is my fav mcartney album , including wings and solo

Welcome To My Nightmare - Alice Cooper (WB) *Well, there's 1 (or 2) for every day of the month! And there are many more! 1975 was an awesome year.
This is a real interesting one because Canada is when they got dreamboat Annie for those of us in the states we didn't know about it until 76 when it was released in the US. So I guess when you rank your favorite albums from 50 years you can either put it this year or next year??!! Yes? Day 23 Foghat fool for the city After banging around getting a little radio play on underground FM Rock for a few years they hit pay dirt with this album. To say everything clicked for him is an understatement You not only had well let's just say a lousy a.m. radio edit of the monster timeless classic now Stoner anthem slow Ride If you had a full 8 plus minute version that just kicked ass like there was no tomorrow and it still does to this day. Lonesome Dave really found his voice on this one belting it out the title track full for the city, laying down a great Robert Johnson style terraplane blues just awesome slide guitar from Rod who would then be known for now on as Rod the bottle price A very interesting revved up cut of a righteous Brothers song written by Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield my babe did some straightforward deep cut album rockers drive me home And the closer take it or leave it written by lonesome Dave and producer and part-time bass player at the time Nick Jameson. Just straightforward hard Rock and what has now become known as blooze. Booze and blues style music together.
Excellent album! One of my 5 desert island picks! The intro to Crazy On You is right up there with Yes’ Mood For A Day. ❤️ Get some rest, Pete. Good wishes for your family 🙏🏻
My pick for day 23 is Alice Cooper : Welcome To My Nightmare. It´s creepy, it´s catchy. The songs are in a strange way very theatrical and very down to earth at the same time. Dreamboat Annie didn´t make my list but it´s that kind of music that could very possibly be on my list.
“Enchanting” is a great word for it. “Beguiling” is another one. I’ve known the two big hits since was a kid, but never listened to the whole album until about five years ago, and it brought a smile to my heart on first listen. I can’t help but think that three “Dreamboat Annie” tracks is one too many, but other than that I love everything about it.
Day 23: "New York Connection" was released by Tom Scott on the Odes Record label in December of '75, when it entered the Billboard 200 for 25 weeks, reaching #42. Mr. Scott composed all the tracks on this jazz -pop fusion venture. With Eric Gale, Hugh McCracken, Eric Gale, and even George Harrison (on Apolonia (Foxtrata)) on guitars, you can be sure that Tom's saxophones, moog and ARP String Ensemble are provided with extra texture. All the songs are great here, but "Time and Love" by Ralph Macdonald, Laura Nyro, and William Salter stands out to me in Nyro's telltale energy as a songwriter and singer/composer that Scott successfully mirrors here in the arrangements he has rendered of this melodic tour de force. "Apolonia (Foxtrata)" also sparkles like a gem.
As “Dreamboat Annie” was released in Europe in 1976 I didn’t include it in my ranking. Otherwise it would easily be a TOP 3 album of 1975. See you again in January 2026… # 9 Gentle Giant: Free Hand Another fantastic record which has already been mentioned by Pete this month. Indeed a TOP 3 Gentle Giant album with the highlights “Just the Same”, “On Reflection” and the title track. # 10 UFO: Force it # 11 Triumvirat: Spartacus # 12 Neu!: Neu! ‘75 # 13 Neil Young & Crazy Horse: Zuma # 14 Hawkwind: Warrior on the Edge of Time # 15 Van der Graaf Generator: Godbluff # 16 Renaissance: Scheherazade & Other Stories # 17 Patti Smith: Horses # 18 Queen: A Night at the Opera # 19 Chris Squire: Fish Out of Water # 20 Steely Dan: Katy Lied # 21 Manfred Mann’s Earth Band: Nightingales and Bombers # 22 Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention: One Size Fits All # 23 Neil Young: Tonight’s the Night # 24 Peter Hammill: Nadir’s Big Chance # 25 Be-Bop Deluxe: Futurama # 26 Tangerine Dream: Rubycon # 27 10cc: The Original Soundtrack # 28 Joni Mitchell: The Hissing of Summer Lawns # 29 Jeff Beck: Blow by Blow # 30 Ted Nugent: Ted Nugent # 31 Supertramp: Crisis? What Crisis?
Yeah it's the same with the states too we didn't get it until 76 also So I guess depending on how you want to make your list you can include it either year. Canada was the only one where they got it released in 75
Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Outstanding SoT choice. Personal pick today? The sixth studio album released by this American musician and songwriter released April 1975 on the Shelter label - Will O' The Wisp by the artist born Claude Russell Bridges but better known as Leon Russell , the Master of Space and Time. All the songs are composed by Leon and this is more of a return to the style of his earlier solo albums but with a bit more maturity. The piano player in me was awed since Leon live in concert and watching him the the Mad Dogs and Englishmen movie. He had started to lose me before this release and actually did lose me for awhile with some subsequent releases but this album demonstrates a return to form and has some great tunes and apparent renewed artistic enthusiasm. Some favorite tracks? The languid wonder of Back To The Island; the powerful melody and playing of Bluebird; the gospel-tinged My Father's Shoes; and the single "Lady Blue" are just a few. Actually, the entire album is a great listen. The charts? Australia at 96 and the U.S at 30. Leon may not be for everyone but he is for me. Sadly missed since his death in 2016 but one of those rock and roll piano players that always mean a great deal. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next selection.
Great write up John. I really loved Leon and The Shelter People from 1971. But you are right he did move away from his edgier music. I will have to check out the album you mentioned. Did you know he was also a fine guitarist; and he played a lot of guitar on that big Joe Cocker tour in 1970. In fact Leon was the one who saved Joe who had tour dates and no band. Leon Russel put that whole Mad Dogs extravaganza together. But then Joe Cocker fell into the same mediocrity trap that got Leon. Those were some fun days to talk about !!!
@@richardbooth6063 Thanks, Richard! Actually, ...And The Shelter People is my favorite of his solo albums. The opening track is near the top of favorite songs of all time. Saw him on tour while he was recording Leon Live. What a concert! Knew he also played guitar and his creation of the Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour. Just a long-time favorite artist but his solo albums lost a lot of luster for me after the '75 release until he and Elton teamed up.
@ that’s awesome that you know how to play a piano. I wish I did. My grandmother wanted to teach me how to play the piano when I was five but I didn’t want to learn. I wish I knew now.
Day 23: Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - The best Years of our Lives. Always loved their style of music. It´s artsy, proggy, weird. Exactly my cup of tea. Here in Germany "Make me Smile" is still played by FM radio stations from time to time. My favorite song on the album is the dark and menacing "It wasn´t Me".
One of many bands that were big in their home country but never made a dent here -- it wasn't until I saw Velvet Goldmine (1998) that I did a deep dive and got all their albums.
Wonderful choice Mel. My favorite JT album. My post from yesterday vanished, as well as my post last night. Something sinister is lurking amongst YT...
Day 23. Angel - Angel. 😃👍. Released in October 1975. I put Angel in the same boat with Starz. I wish that I knew them when I was a tween or teen. Angel is such wild rockin’ fun. Killer debut! 🔥. I listen to Angel all the time these days! Rock Always! - Heather
Hey Heather! A fantastic choice of albums. My favorite song off this album is "The Tower". I had Angel on my list earlier in the month. An awesome album. 🎶
Hi everyone, well, we're down to single figures on the list and firmly into my top 10 although, in fact, I'm technically into my top 11, and so today, with only a tiny bit of cheating, I'm giving you numbers 9 and 9.5 on my list... 9.5 = AC/DC "High Voltage" (Albert, Feb.75) 9.0 = AC/DC "TNT" (Albert, Dec. 75) Of course, both these albums were only released in the band's native Australia in 1975, and tracks from both would be combined to form their first international release the following year, also called "High Voltage" although, a little ironically, more tracks were used from TNT than from HV, including the song "High Voltage" which originally appeared on TNT... If, as happened with RUSH when I did their 1975 'twofer', I had to pick just one of these then yes, TNT gets the nod, but that 1st album is more than worthy of a mention, even if only as a sort of glorified HM. Despite having only 8 tracks, the album is only fractionally shy of 40 minutes in length, indicating that, despite the 60s rock n roll influences, the band were already happy to push beyond the 3 minute radio hit format, as on the 6.25 minute "Soul Stripper" and the 5.40 "Little Lover"... TNT, however, is the real statement of what was to follow, kicking off with Its A Long Way To The Top, complete with Bon's bagpipe riff alongside Angus' as a nod to their Scottish roots, and then running through songs that would remain in their live set for years - The Jack, Live Wire, Rocker and, of course, TNT and High Voltage themselves. Factor in other fun tracks like Can I Sit Next To You, Girl? and a run through of Chuck Berry's School Days, and you have the basis of what would become world domination.
My pick for today is NEU - NEU 75. Innovative, experimental, challenging and far ahead of their time are the ingredients for the Krautrock bands of that time. NEU is no exception. This album is a compromise between two musical preferences. Michael Rother´s ambient, almost meditative style and Klaus Dinger´s proto punk outbursts, of which ´Hero´ and especiallly the primal and gritty ´After Eight´ must have influenced Johnny Rotten. His mean singing style seems indebted to that of Dinger.
My number 9 The Brecker Brothers - Brecker Bros. 10 Jeff Beck - Blow by Blow 11 Steely Dan - Katy Lied 12 Ted Nugent - Ted Nugent 13 Jean-Luc Ponty - Upon the Wings of Music 14 Tommy Bolin - Teaser 15 Phil Manzanera - Diamond Head 16 Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte 17 Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti 18 Thin Lizzy - Fighting 19 The Tubes - The Tubes 20 Hatfield and the North - The Rotters’ Club 21 Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery 22 Brian Eno - Another Green World 23 Soft Machine - Bundles 24 Return to Forever featuring Chick Corea - No Mystery 25 Sloche - J'un Oeil 26 Passport - Cross-Collateral 27 Herbie Hancock - Man-Child 28 Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow 29 Roxy Music - Siren 30 Neil Merryweather - Krypronite 31 Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic

Day 9 pick is Straight Shooter by Bad Company. Favorite songs are Good Lovin Gone Bad. Feel Like Makin Love. Shooting Star. Deal With The Preacher and Wildfire Woman.
I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one Phil. Pete did say in his recent video about songs he still liked but didn’t own. Pete said he preferred Bob Dylan’s singing on “Knockin’ on Heavens Door” over Axyl Rose’s version..My jaw is still on the floor !!!😊

All for rock and roll one of my favorite cuts on the hard side I don't want to talk about it actually that's my favorite version Although the original from crazy horse in the late Danny Witten is really good rod really knocked it out of the park And my third pick on that song Believe It or not are the indigo girls they did a good version too. I always love this album when he crossed over and the people that played on this a night on the town footloose and fancy-free or just wow A who's Who of session musicians
@@alexandercaviedes2559yeah for some reason it just never gets fire on the radio even on deep cut stations I don't know why It's just like on Footloose and fancy-free you get hot legs and you're in my heart but you never really hear you're insane or the hard rocking born loose
Going off the beaten path today. A little Kraut Prog Rock. My Day 23 pick is "Power and the Passion" by Eloy on Harvest Records. The 10 minute " Love Over Six Centuries" really dabbles into a lot of genres.
Hey Pete. All the best. Interesting fact: Ray Ayotte (pronounced; A-yott) is the Vancouver based designer and creator of the famous Ayotte drums, used by many of the big name drummers of the 80s

I now have the complete official discography plus a few extras
Great pick harizon. My favorite Budgie Album.
23) Thin Lizzy - Fighting
By the time that this album came out in 1975, I had been a fan of Thin Lizzy for a couple of years.

#9 Heart - Dreamboat Annie
I almost made a big mistake.
Another excellent write-up Richard. I have this fantastic debut album coming up on my list.
That's a full-ass review, nice job! When you say you listened, was it just a revisit or the first time? If the latter I'm even more impressed.

Day 23 Fleetwood Mac s/t (White album)
The arrival of Stevie Nicks and Lyndsey Buckingham in the band took Fleetwood Mac in a completely new direction, from a blues outfit to a West Coast soft rock band.

@@keithjones6023 hi Keith. Fantastic pick and article. I had this album picked a while ago this month.
Today is also Dreamboat Annie. Besides the hits, you cant beat Sing Child, white lightning and wine, ect . A debut classic
Pick # 9 - Nazareth- Hair Of The Dog
Hello Pete and everyone. My choice for today is by one of the most commercially popular bands of all time, who have never been considered ‘cool’ by most music fans or critics:
9. Eagles - One Of These Nights
The album includes three hugely successful singles (One Of These Nights, Lyin’ Eyes and Take It To The Limit) that are all great songs, but these aren’t my favourites from the album.

Cooper hired Bob Ezrin, who had produced four previous Cooper records, to collaborate with him.[8]
Ezrin, Steve Hunter, and Dick Wagner had all performed on the Alice Cooper band’s 1973 studio album Billion Dollar Babies, produced by Ezrin.
Ezrin and Cooper came up with a story concept for the album, with Cooper telling the story of the nightmares of the character Steven.[8]
During the Bob Lefsetz podcast, Ezrin recounts that he and Alice Cooper initially created the storyline, in which a rock star named Steven and his mistress are on a private jet flying over the Rocky Mountains.

Great pick.
#9 David Bowie - Young Americans
It must have been quite a surprise when this album came out in '75. The white duke recording a funk and soul album. For me it is a good Bowie album although in some songs Bowie's voice doesn't fit. The song with Lennon (Fame) is an instant classic.

9. Jefferson Starship--"Red Octopus"--"Miracles" will eternally be one of the best pop songs of all time.
@sunsin1592
Agreed! Its sublimely beautiful and lyrical for thematically the same song as "Shook Me All Night Long"!😂😂
..you know what I mean.😁
Swear to.God I just played this song like 12 times in a row last week.
Agree Pete 👍 Heart Dreamboat Annie a great album Crazy On You , Magic Man 👨 ✨️ ❤️ it an awersome album from the Wilson Sisters a great debt 😀 👍.

Crazy on You has long been my favorite song from Heart but this is one of the best debut albums out there.
Thin Lizzy - Fighting

My Day 23 Pick:
Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery
This opens with the amazing title track, and closes out with the epic "Baker St.

Tush is a great track. Was this video reposted?
Great pick Gary
@@tomp8463 Thanks Tom! Yes Tush is also a big highlight. Yes earlier video got taken down and then this one was posted

Nice one Tom
Fine pick Tom...mine the other day as well. Stranglehold absolutely epic, the riff & solo
I got to see them touring this album at the PNE Gardens, Vancouver ( a 2,700 capacity venue)
They were the opening act, with April Wine being the headliner on their "The whole world's goin' crazy" tour.

Foghat fool for the city
After banging around getting a little radio play on underground FM Rock for a few years they hit pay dirt with this album.
To say everything clicked for him is an understatement
You not only had well let's just say a lousy a.m. radio edit of the monster timeless classic now Stoner anthem slow Ride
If you had a full 8 plus minute version that just kicked ass like there was no tomorrow and it still does to this day.
Lonesome Dave really found his voice on this one belting it out the title track full for the city, laying down a great Robert Johnson style terraplane blues just awesome slide guitar from Rod who would then be known for now on as Rod the bottle price
A very interesting revved up cut of a righteous Brothers song written by Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield my babe
did some straightforward deep cut album rockers drive me home
And the closer take it or leave it written by lonesome Dave and producer and part-time bass player at the time Nick Jameson.

My #9 pick for Day 23 is One Of These Nights by Eagles.
See you again in January 2026…

@@johnmichaelwilliams6694 hi John. I know this musician you’ve mentioned but I’m not that familiar with his music. Interesting article.
@@melaniethurber5117 Thanks, Melanie. One of the piano players that influenced me back in the day.
Fleetwood Mac, the selftitled from 1975 must be on my list.
On my list today!
Day 23
Jethro Tull
Minstrel in the Gallery
Nice pick, Melanie. Here's hoping our posts stay posted.
@@rickmay6932 thanks Rick. I hope they stay up to.
Excellent selection Melanie !
This is coming up soon for me. We nearly hit this one at the same time.
@ it must be your pick for tomorrow Richard
Wonderful choice Mel. My favorite JT album. My post from yesterday vanished, as well as my post last night. Something sinister is lurking amongst YT...
Day 23. Angel - Angel. 😃👍. Released in October 1975. I put Angel in the same boat with Starz. I wish that I knew them when I was a tween or teen. Angel is such wild rockin’ fun. Killer debut! 🔥. I listen to Angel all the time these days! Rock Always! - Heather
Hi Heather, wonderful album, which I have, as yet, to choose, but it's coming...
Hey Heather! A fantastic choice of albums. My favorite song off this album is "The Tower". I had Angel on my list earlier in the month. An awesome album. 🎶
@@the80slivehere Cool pick Heather!
Excellent pick, Heather.
Great pick, Heather!
9. Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
Day 23/9 Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte
Super album choice there, my pick the other day.
#9: Jane: Lady
My pick today is Caress of Steel - Rush
Hi everyone, well, we're down to single figures on the list and firmly into my top 10 although, in fact, I'm technically into my top 11, and so today, with only a tiny bit of cheating, I'm giving you numbers 9 and 9.5 on my list...
9.5 = AC/DC "High Voltage" (Albert, Feb.75)
9.0 = AC/DC "TNT" (Albert, Dec. 75)
Of course, both these albums were only released in the band's native Australia in 1975, and tracks from both would be combined to form their first international release the following year, also called "High Voltage" although, a little ironically, more tracks were used from TNT than from HV, including the song "High Voltage" which originally appeared on TNT...
Great picks, Iain!
Great combo Sir Iain. wise way to squeeze it together, agreed that TNT was the one!
Iain, true confessions......I only own the black album post Bon.
@@iainhead9898 hi Iain. Awesome pick and article
@@Alfred_Domke_antispace-sounds Thanks Alfred!
Super Great Debut!!!!!
My #23: Barry White - Greatest Hits
My pick for today is NEU - NEU 75. Innovative, experimental, challenging and far ahead of their time are the ingredients for the Krautrock bands of that time. NEU is no exception. This album is a compromise between two musical preferences. Michael Rother´s ambient, almost meditative style and Klaus Dinger´s proto punk outbursts, of which ´Hero´ and especiallly the primal and gritty ´After Eight´ must have influenced Johnny Rotten. His mean singing style seems indebted to that of Dinger.
Superb album. In the years of 50th anniversary of Kraftwerk’s autobahn, a worthy inclusion.
@shaunogle530 Thanks Shaun. Those German bands sounded so futuristic.
Great pick, Danny!

I keep checking in to see if Pete has picked Dylan's '70s masterpiece Blood On The Tracks, the finest album of 1975. Have I missed it ?
@@PhilBaird1 You'll never see Pete talking about a Dylan album. He's not into Dylan's music at all.
@@christophercoles4401 I know, I know, but it's hard to talk about 1975 albums without mentioning Blood On The Tracks. I'm just making the point.
Sorry Pete doesn't like Bob Dylan very much.
Just like he doesn't like punk.
So you'll never see The clash or Ramones either. Lol
@@richardbooth6063well who doesn't prefer that rich? I prefer Paul McCartney singing Live and let die over axl screeching too

Hey Starman, excellent choice and list. A fantastic album.
Going with Warrior on the Edge of Time by Hawkwind
for this day my pick is Scorpions-In Trance
Minstrel In The Gallery-:Jethro Tull
Day 23 Atlantic Crossing Rod Stewart, I don't want to talk about it but this album rocks
Can't understand why 'Sailing' is not considered an all-time classic in the US.
All for rock and roll one of my favorite cuts on the hard side
I don't want to talk about it actually that's my favorite version
Although the original from crazy horse in the late Danny Witten is really good rod really knocked it out of the park
And my third pick on that song Believe It or not are the indigo girls they did a good version too.
I always love this album when he crossed over and the people that played on this a night on the town footloose and fancy-free or just wow A who's Who of session musicians
@@alexandercaviedes2559yeah for some reason it just never gets fire on the radio even on deep cut stations I don't know why
It's just like on Footloose and fancy-free you get hot legs and you're in my heart but you never really hear you're insane or the hard rocking born loose
Today's pick: ZZ Top - Fandango
Going off the beaten path today. A little Kraut Prog Rock. My Day 23 pick is "Power and the Passion" by Eloy on Harvest Records. The 10 minute " Love Over Six Centuries" really dabbles into a lot of genres.
Hey Pete. All the best.
