The most effective method to learn new words (and also to improving your english as well) is to read / listen content that you like more. For example, I love aviation (i'm a spotter) so I watch videos, listen podcasts, read articles and like pages in english about that. It gives you motivation to keep studying English.

You know what is the best methode to learn language? Just practice. Couple days ago I've started to comment on some russian videos, and I see the progress of my language. It's amazing. The next language I will learn I'm going to try to use in the very begining. It helps not only to collect the new vocabulary, but it makes you more confident to use language in normal life. You have much more expierience in the normal conversation.
And don't forget to make "using of the language" the part of your life, everyday.

I'd say that one good way to learn words is to write them and their translation down and then make short sentences with these words every day. You don't need them to be elaborated, that's just a chunk of a context to remember the meaning better. It works for me)
Thank you Staphanie, you give a lot of good advice on studying!!

Thanks Coach! You are totally right about Passive and Active vocabulary. I personally memorise vocabulary and definitions in case some talks or explains me but not when I read. There is also the main problem is our laziness. We should try use new vocabulary as much as we can on followings days and in different situations. Good luck to all of us who is keen to learn English!

I gave up learning English for 3-4 years when I was a kid
In Secondary 2(14 years old), I picked it up by listening rock music and reading lyrics
Due to leak of vocabulary, I had to translate the lyrics word by word, and tried to guess the meaning of whole song
At first, I was making many mistakes, but I really learnt and memorized vocabulary through it
My English getting better bit by bit, then I learnt more from songs, RUclips, even my native speaker friend
10 years later, I form a habit that every time I saw a word which is I don't know/forget the meaning, I checked the dictionary
That's how I learn English, make sure I understand most content
Eventually I have new passive vocabulary and active vocabulary
Nowadays, I don't have big trouble having a conversation with native speaker. I'm grateful for it
However, since my mother tongue is way different from English, I still have difficulty in grammar and tenses

Hi Stef... you have great videos and a great speaking... I'm English teacher and your videos are helping me to improve my language level.
In Brazil, there is a huge lack of education among the people and serious problems of learning, even in the most of language schools, so I'm trying to solve and using another way of teaching and it's being a surprising experience, because my students are finally understanding English.
What I'm doing is personalizing for each student, so I can discover his/her difficulty and work on it to solve the problem.

Now I understand why it is really easy for me to understand almost everything you are explaining in your videos although your speaking speed is very fast for me (it must be a normal speed or a bit slower speed for you) : you are trying to use as easy words & expressions as possible as you mentioned in this video. However, I want to add that your way of pronouncing words and speaking is a perfect match to my English listening capability, which has never happened to me with all other English native speakers I have always difficulty to follow when they speak with natural speed... so I am very glad that I discovered your channel a few weeks ago by chance here on RUclips and I really enjoy it watching all your past videos one by one. Thanks Stephanie!

I do the same that your students do when I learn new vocabulary. And to be able to memorize it I try to use it all the time so that this word turns into a long-standing word in my memory. But you're right, sometimes I just misuse the word but in spite of this I end up learning the word so that when I encounter that word in some context I understand its meaning.
What I mean is that I think it's not bad to incorporate new words in your vocabulary aiming to learn them even when you're sometimes misusing it, since we learn through making mistakes.

It works very well for me . Thank you very very much for your wonderful work. Greetings from Dominican Republic.
