I'm ordering mine as soon as they come back into stock. That with a few exhaust upgrades and I think it would be safe to say I'd have a 0-60 time of between 6.0 and 5.8
Cool! My XJ40 is a bit slow when driving in the city. Do you think it's worth it? First priority would be to get a bit better mpg, then second priority get a bit more power.
@@rehab4everybody Definitely a matter of taste, but that is what some say yes. I’d say it’s a more involving and challenging drive, which for me is what makes it interesting. It will bite back if you aren’t careful though!
@@rehab4everybody The rear end can swing out like a pendulum quite readily if you stamp on the throttle, which can be exciting. The traction control system is really crude also. It just cuts all power when the rear wheels break traction. You then have to back off the pedal completely to get power back. The V8 is definitely easier to drive fast.
Dean Stanley It would have been a great deal easier to fit the Andy Bracket had it been a non-supercharged model but with some good quality 1/4 inch socket bits, it was not difficult to replace.
When I get the gearbox filter and fluid changed, I will run this test again. It could probably go a few tenths faster if the gearbox could keep up with the engine. A previous XJR6 of mine (which ironically had higher mileage), had a beautifully crisp gearbox relatively speaking. Here is footage of that one doing a 0-60 MPH run. ruclips.net/video/P489JXQSrPo/видео.html. Ironically that was slower for some unknown other reason, but I'm annoyed the gearbox was better on that car than the current one.
@@b.eduardo5105 pretty sure it's a 4L80e. Pretty sluggish trans to begin with. Supposedly these and the V12z are completely awakened with a 5-spd manual swap.
Yes it is a GM 4l80e in a proprietary case, jaguar only electrical plug, and a unique output shaft. Here in the states they are very common and thus we have shift kits to firm them up a little bit, but the 4l80e is an excellent automatic transmission because of how robust it was, and can handle 500 horsepower in most applications, stock
Everything on my XJR6 seems to work pretty perfectly, still i get 0-60 times of about 8 to 9 seconds. Do you have any Idea what could be reducing power? I changed the crankshaft, temperature and o2 Sensors and the sparkplugs, fuel filter, air filter and cleaned the maf
Ablex I would check the fuel pressure regulator and test that the secondary fuel pump is working (jumper wire on the relay in the boot). Remember that under full load the second fuel pump should kick in. If the fuel pumps are tired maybe that could slow things down a bit. These things can be hard to pin down unfortunately. Another thing might be the exhaust system. If it’s old, then the catalytic converters might be starting to collapse and thus reduce engine breathing. My car has a full stainless steel exhaust, including the catalytic converters, which must be helping. Also have a look at your exhaust manifolds. They usually crack on AJ16 engines at some point. Please consider subscribing if you can. It really helps the channel out!
@@Biggles Thank you very much! Those are some pretty good ideas i havent considered until now. Can i ask you where you got the stainless steel part with the catalytic converters? Im of course already subscribed to your channel
Ablex Sorry, not sure on the stainless steel exhaust system. A previous owner had it fitted. I think the best thing on that front is to go to a local specialist and enquire. I don’t know of any off the shelf setups.
That trans does sound great on gear changes.
Thank you for this video, makes me very excited for when mine gets going

Unfortunately this modification doesn’t work on an XJ40 as far as I am aware.
Fabulous car :)
OMG, yes I am a member of your channel.. LOVE it.. small World..
Nice car
Thanks for the video! Is the XJR V8 faster? Best regards!
Hi! Yes, the V8 XJR is noticeably faster. I still prefer the old 6-cylinder engine though.
@@Biggles Ok, thanks. I have the XJR8 and like the speed and all. But ive herad the 6 is a kind of cooler to drive..?!

Do you know the drive experience of a XJR8 ?

Thats got an awesome SC whine. I own a 95 XJR6 and it doesn't make a sound like that
A manual one of these probably can't be far off the V8 XJR on 0-60 times !
It can get close, but you need some skill as the Getrag 290 is a bit agricultural. So much more fun though!
Did you trap your thumb fitting the Andy bracket?!

they must be the most slushy and slow gear changes I've ever heard!

@@Biggles I agree, However i think its by design as to how slow it is.
