- Part two of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, the Indigo Disk, is officially out! While I did have the opportunity to play a small piece of it a month ago, the Blueberry Academy has a LOT of surprises and a lot of pokemon to shiny hunt for! So let's see how many shinies we can catch in the first two days of the game's release!

Shiny vulpix is definitely easy to tell when you stop moving the camera. I just did an outbreak hunt for them and caught three :) they're definitely more of a yellow than the regular (more red) sprite
Joltik is scary. I first saw it bouncing around in Crown Tundra, and it immediately made me love Galvantula a lot more

Those instant Joltik and Popplio moments literally just happened to me, but with Rockruff. I closed the picnic, turned around, and it was just right there!

Wooper lore: Wooper is based on a larval salamander, which has a flat tail and feathery, external gills. Many species of salamanders are known for their poisonous skin. Shiny Wooper gives it a similar coloration to that of albino, leucistic, and flavistic color mutants, or an axolotl, a species of salamander that keeps its gills and remains in the water for all of its life because it never develops lungs. Paldean Wooper being forced out of its ancient water habitat is a reference to what happened to wild axolotls following the destruction of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan and the draining of Lake Texcoco.
Minccino lore: Minccino and its evolved form were designed by Atsuko Nishida, and almost no changes were made to her original designs. They were intended to be parallels of Kanto's Clefairy and Clefable. Minccino is based off the chinchilla. Its tail is based on feather dusters or brooms, as Minccino use their tails to clean their dens. When chinchillas bathe, they take dust baths. They take dust baths because of their fur. If a chinchilla gets wet, the fur is so dense that it holds all the moisture in. The fur therefore takes a very long time to dry and, if the moisture stays in it long enough, fungi can start to multiply and cause a skin infection.
I've never cared about which Ball goes with which Pokémon, but I was still like "Repeat Ball for the Pyroar!"
I had this video playing in the background while EV training my Alolan Ninetales, I looked to the video to see the Alolan executor, looked back to my switch and found a shiny Jumpluff!
I looooove when that happens- I don’t watch a ton of other shiny hunters aside from my friends but I used to a few years back! It’s so cool knowing I’m the one people watch in that situation now 🥹

i don’t think it’s a reference. zip zap zop is a game i played in high school theatre class, and i know it’s pretty widespread. they probably just had the same idea.

"And here we witness the elusive Canadian Wooper in its natural habitat" is what David Attenborough would say! Joltik just hopping around like that is so goofy...I love it. The fact you can unleash Sync Mode and be the goofy Joltik, Wooper, Tinkaton, or even Toedscool we were meant to be in this DLC is incredible. What an amazing feature! And the Lion King reference was chef's kiss. Not the first Lion King reference they did when the Hakuna Matata scene is referenced in the Badlands in New Pokémon Snap! Lion King remains my favorite Broadway musical. I saw it when I was a kid and seeing all the animals move through the aisles next to me and onto the stage during the Circle of Life sequence was absolutely magical.
Regarding Popplio, before Scarlet/Violet, you could also get a Popplio in the Sword/Shield Expansion Pass. When you find the Diglett Trainer by the Master Dojo and you manage to find at least a hundred Alolan Diglett, he rewards you with an Alolan starter. If you chose Sobble as your Galar starter, he would give you Popplio!
In addition, Popplio [and rowlet/litten] were initially available as HOME transfer prior to the DLC

Same thing happened to me with Pikipek, I saw it, remembered I need it for the dex, run into it, think the shiny noise was from my Scizor, double check, freak out, and I'm happy

when she records the video she have 2 feeds one that go directly to the media file and another that gets transmitted to a screen she watches on, this screen got a video effect that saturate the colors a lot which makes it easier to spot shinies she went into that in one of her shorts on tandemaus (iirc), some might consider it cheating but the code have not been modified so the shiny is legit according to the pokemon home app (personally I am not considering it cheating since the pokemon is legit according to nintendo/TPC and the only ones that can really claim something is cheating would be the developer and the publisher)

😔 I was doing a milcery outbreak whilst being gallade, but it seems that my actual character was too far away to get the souless eyed milcery.
I have more fails than catches so far now lol

We are complete polar opposites lol. You were looking for Minccino and found Porygon, I was looking for Porygon and found 2 Minccinos.
one of the biggest reasons for me to get the dlc is playing as latios with the synchro mode.

One thing I love is that because I only really started looking out for shinies in PLA, I have NEVER seen most of the shinies available in the DLC 🙂 I haven't intentionally hunted yet but I did find a random shiny trapinch so hopefully I find more soon
I grabbed 7 shiny marked milcery during the event so I had one for every sweet and luckily enough one of them had the "Rare Mark"

So happy to see a shiny hunt without spoilers. I haven’t even started the story yet. The second I reached the terrarium, I started exploring. I’m doing a shiny only play-through of the DLC, not intentionally but because I got a whole team of random shinies while running around. XD
The pyroar situation happened to me twice, I walked to the big lake in paldea for a dratini outbreak and it instantly popped up, and I found a shiny litleo on the hill
Seeing Joltik bouncing around combined with the chaotic energy from you and your shiny hunting friends was the funniest thing ever!

So when she’s talking about Chargestone cave, I’m not sure if she noticed it, but there was a shiny in that footage. The Magneton in the left part at 3:58 is gold with black magnets.
I have never failed to encounter a shiny Magnemite or evolution of same in every gen that had the mon as an encounter and the shiny mechanic.

@@its_rynn when you never fail to have at least one encounter with the mon, you kinda realize that there is a pattern. And it’s following you.
This DLC is so much fun. My first shiny I found was a random Seadra, because I randomly decided to drop down a cliff and there it was. My second was a horsea that I accidentally ran into, wasn’t paying attention and didn’t realise it was shiny until I ran away, then saw the pink belly. I found a shiny Clefairy just chilling under a tree while I was watching this video (specifically the part where you ran into a shiny pikipek). I recommend hunting a lapras, as the shiny looks so amazing in this game.
I love the synchro mode for beating outbreaks. I did also defeat a shiny in synchro mode, but fortunately, I was specifically checking to see if it would, so I had saved beforehand. It is annoying that any shinies you find away from your body will despawn when you desynchronise, but it is very fun being a Pokémon.
off topic but the battle music is the battle music from BLACK AND WHITE? OMG I LOVE IT
bro I was so excited when I battled Lacey and heard a remade trainer battle theme from gen 5, I’m so glad they remade some B/W music. The music in the Terarium also has a DS feel to it, and they snuck some of the Area Zero theme into it if you listen hard enough

Catherine, Chikorita is my favorite Pokemon of all time. You made my day by hunting it and dishing out all this praise for it when it's considered the worst of the three Johto starters by a huge majority of the community. I love it for those exact same reasons, as well as a few personal reasons of my own. Thank you so much for being a chiko lover :D
When you initially mentioned synchro mode, it reminded me of the shiny alliance geodude I lost while hunting a tepig outbreak.
I'm happy to say I managed to get 2 full odds shinies very early on in my playthrough of the DLC and they were Cranidos and Excadrill
I started playing the DLC, and LITERALLY the first Pokemon that appeared when they first let you explore the terrarium was a shiny exeggute
Nice job with the Flygon being your first shiny. Once the DLC came out, I headed straight for Duraludon (my favorite gen 8 Pokémon) and decided to shiny hunt it. High five for going for the shinies in the same type category (dragon)✋

6:45 yeah I unfortunately failed a shiny Alolan Graveler in the Syncro Machine TUTORIAL of all things. I really hope they add the option to move your trainer over to your Pokémon as you exit, as that’d help the despawning issue at least

In the first 20 minutes of Indigo Disk… 20 minutes in… I ran into a shiny Lapras. I wasn’t even shiny hunting, just exploring.

I somehow managed to get two shinies within about 30 minutes earlier today, a Milcery from when I was trying to complete one of the auto battle bbqs and a Crabrawler when I was trying to find some of the starters in the coastal biome.

My first sandwich of indigo disk had nothing for the first 15 minutes then in the last 15 I got treeko, turtwig, and chespin
Omgg you're so lucky with Vulpix ! I've been hunting it for like 30 hours straight (using Masuda method before the DLC was out), two massives outbreaks with 4 lvl 3 sandwiches and still hasn't got one yet !

I didn't do any hunts in my first catching spree, but I am excited for a couple of hunts like Minior and Alolan Exeggutor :) There are a handful of shinies I've never had in the Terrarium that I'm excited for. Shout-out to Joltik and Golett for showing up randomly while I was catching so I didn't have to hunt them.
I also found out about the Synchro Mode shiny murder through unethical experimentation. Sorry Axew. I saved and reset just for that.
Your reactions to the Joltik and Popplio were very similar to my reactions when I accidentally stumbled across TWO SHINIES in the same 24 hours 😂😂 And by "stumbled across" I really mean that... I was playing through the main story for the second time on an alt acc, and I was on my way to like, the second gym. No shiny charm, no sandwiches, no mass outbreak. There was a shiny Shinx just chilling in the middle of the path! Then later, I went to Kitakami after beating a few gyms, and in the mountain area I run straight into a shiny Noibat! Same case, no shiny charm or anything that increases the odds. I was absolutely flabbergasted

I've been having quite a good time with the dlc shiny hunting, purposeful ones including golett, minior, minccino and doraludon, though I've ran into a few by accident like a shiny espurr, elekid and a couple more :).
Wow you got super lucky with Jotik and Popplio, I was in a Grooky outbreak and it took an hour and a half for one shiny to show up for me

Ontem fiz um sanduíche qualquer pra complementar uma bbq e foi encounter bug e eu estava num lugar cheio de scizor e veio um shiny,e dois shinies aleatórios venonat e sawbucks,hoje caçei um mudkip e veio muito rapido o shiny e veio no começo do sanduíche,e fui caçar popplio shiny mas veio um froak shiny entao eu evolui ele hello to Brazil🇧🇷, this dlc is crazy, the day before yesterday I found a shiny galarian slowpoke while trying to evolve a slowpoke hahahahaha Yesterday I made a random sandwich to complement a bbq and it was encounter bug and I was in a place full of scizor and a shiny came, and two random shinies venonat and sawbucks, today I hunted for a mudkip and the shiny came very quickly and came at the beginning of the sandwich ,and I went hunting for shiny popplio but a shiny froak came so I evolved it

Honestly, the pikipek catch was very similar to my Trumbeak catch LOL. was just out doing autobattles for the BP quests and my pokemon refused to kill it. Wouldn't have even noticed it had it not been for that. XD

My first *random* shiny in the Indigo Disk was Alolan Exeggutor. It was a real yellow jumpscare; that was fun. (My first shiny overall was a Duraludon from an outbreak, and my second was another Duraludon from the same sandwich. Naturally I evolved one and now I have the Architecture Brothers.)

If we're talking about those catchable static Pokémon that are specifically placed somewhere, my favorite is the water Terra Rhydon hanging out in that water cave in the Canyon Biome,,, it's a VERY specific reference to the swimming Rhydon from the anime and I absolutely adore it so much,,, I named him "Rhyd" cause it looks like it could be pronounced "Red" and I thought that was fitting lol
If it makes you feel any better, Catherine ... I did the exact same thing Friday night. Shiny Snubbull and I was in Syncro mode with a Hitmontop ... while I was at the clear other end of the frozen biome. But the game made it up to me by giving me two shiny Zangoose last night with a single sandwich!

Ngl I got Joltik jumpscared when I was running around in the chargestone caves and one started just aggressively bouncing across my screen. It freaked me out for a second because they are tiny, very fast, and very hard to dodge when they're bouncing straight towards you

As soon as i stepped on Coastal area, i was scared by Tentacool, hit by Oricorio when starting the Alola quest, then chilled next to an Oddish for some time while googling something.
Next day was Iron Hands when story went to Area Zero, Seel confusion while doing BBQs, there was a 3rd one this time too but i forgot which Pokemon it was.

Popplio was in Sword and Shield. I don't see other comments about it but there are over 700 so idk, but I remember because it was one of my favourite masuda hunts :)
I didn't know about all the starters being in the DLC. I have a perfectly good excuse as well, I play wow and we not long ago had Blizzcon and announcements over the next 3 expansions, pokemon wasn't on my mind then. I shall be hunting shiny Piplup. Also hope you have a great holiday!
I hunted Popplio too (no outbreak just vibes) and my Primarina is my pride & joy now. And i got it in a dream ball :D
My fastest shiny hunt was a Finizen outbreak in the waters outside the caves under the city with the psychic gym. One spawned literally right after I made the sandwich. I ended up getting three shinies from that sandwich, and then trading two of them for legendaries in the HOME GTS.

Talk about running into a subtle shiny, the first Duraludon I caught I didn't even notice was shiny until I was preparing for Drayton's challenge and rummaging around my PC lmaooo 😂

The first shiny I caught in here was without a sandwich, as well. Was just running around filling out the dex and found a shiny megneton. This made me happy cuz I been trying to get a shiny magneton forEVER.
I failed a porygon outbreak cuz the game decided I shouldn’t be able to move after accidentally fighting one, so seeing you get one is a blessing to witness,,

In some nests you can see mandibuzz flying and walking around it and vullaby in the nest if you move fast enough you can see the mandibuzz sitting on the edge then fly away

Looks like you got great luck to play shiny hunting this well. IF im wrong that this is normal than your still blessed compared to me who doesn't ever see a shiny and when i do i miss that i caught one and now its lost in my box.
