Another market that might be good to try for these, is the camping and overlanding crowd. Put these into little cloth baggies to be thrown into backpacks, sleeping bags, pop-up tents, etc.
New sub. With all the WW channels I’m sub to, no one has ever shown anything like this. Simple, healthier and proven effective. A little extra cash at shows is better than coming home empty handed.
Today I learned a new term - garred up! The disks hitting the sander was funny but then I was like, what if he doesn't find them all! Have a great Labor Day Mr. Voss!
I think I'll try this. Perhaps add a little note card extoling the benefits of cedar. Oh yeah, loved the roach. That was cute. Thanks for a good video. Looking forward to more
Great idea Voss. In my opinion nothing better than cedar shavings from a dado blade in little cloth tobacco style bags. Can still use the scraps to make shavings but bags would have some cost incurred but not too much.
Great idea. I'm thinking those little mesh bags they put rice (or bird seed) in for weddings with those shavings. Heck, you could just put a baggie on your dust port, shave a little off the edge of a board and fill as you go!
To anyone watching this channel!! This channel is worth watching! Subscribe to him and it will be something you won’t regret! Videos are worthy and makes things simple as we all don’t have expensive tools or money to buy them. Many channels don’t account that some beginners don’t have all the tools we would like to do projects. This guy actually try’s to think of more projects and even if you can’t you can’t always put your twist to his. Great beginner videos and inspirational content and exciting projects that spark your creativity! Great short, and simple video!!!
While I don’t have all the fancy tools, I watch those other videos and wonder how I could do them with the tools I have. Look at it positively, because you can learn new ways to do some of those things, and if you’re new to woodworking, you will learn what to do, but also what not to do. We will certainly make mistakes along the way. They may make it look complicated, but I don’t think it’s as hard as it may seem.
The only cedar fence pickets available in my area are made from incense cedar. Trust me, you do NOT want that stank hanging up in your closet. For those who don't know, incense cedar is the species of wood that is generally used to make pencils. The pickets from Home Depot smell like unwashed armpits on a hot, sticky August afternoon.
I live in south Mississippi where eastern red cedar is common. I buy cedar pickets from lowes and Home Depot which is western cedar. There is no comparison to the strength of the aroma these two types give. The eastern cedar is way more dominant.
You have a clever💡 idea, great for closets and drawers. I have a whole piece of cedar fence in my closet, for real. I will sand it to refreshend the aroma. But I will try your idea to share some pieces with friends. Lets see what happens.
Thats slightly an inside joke with myself because 90% of these "make $6000 from a 2x4 i found in the river" videos take 7+ minutes to find out what the project even is :P
@@WhosTheVoss LoL 😂, Very True! Plus a lot (not all, but definitely a LOT) of those videos people aren’t gonna make all that much money with!! Now these (in this video) on the other hand I can definitely see making a couple hundred dollars $$$ from cause people are gravitating back towards the "all natural" aspect of things (in a lot of various areas), plus they’re looking for someone/somewhere else that isn’t just a huge conglomerate to purchase from as well too. Basically meaning if you put out a pretty good product, that works/solves a problem, looks good & or functions etc etc & you can get it close to the price they’d pay at a big box store for them then they’ll (99.999% of the time) definitely buy from you over the chain/conglomerate. (Just my personal experiences & opinion though…. But I’m a nobody so what do I even know! Nothing 🤔🤷♂️) 🫡 ✌️
@@WhosTheVoss well Vermont is in the us. Just up between NY and NH and Canada the north and mass to south. I looked into it a while ago and best I could find was regional the areas in the north east had to warm a winter a year back or something ago and the pandemic and apparently they are harvested in cold winter as they grow in swampy areas so they need the mud to freeze to be able to log.
@@FuzzyLigerI had a row of cedars cut down this summer, didn’t know the value of the lumber but I asked the arborist to leave the trunks for me. I have over a dozen 6 or so foot logs, most 6 to 8 “ diameter. I’m in Barre, if you need raw cedar let me know. I’m slowly getting into woodworking the last few years and have been figuring out how to mill boards from the logs for projects.
Just saying, cedar chests and cedar lined closets are made with eastern cedar (Juniperus virginiana) not western cedar (Thuja plicata), different tree, different wood, different aroma, similar name. But if they sell, why not :)
Most “Cedar” fence pickets from the box box stores are actually Cryptomeria japonica, commonly known as Japanese Cedar locally. Very aromatic and similar to Eastern Red Cedar.
Stupid question here, What do you call these? Like on a sign or in an advertisement? Smelly cedar discs, great for heck if I know. Buy some today? One more thing. You should put links to the recommended videos you have in boxes at the end of the videos. Easier to go to.
All cedar contains the oils needed to repel bugs, but true red cedar has a higher percentage, sanding the discs every so often will reactivate new oils and good smellies :)
@@WhosTheVoss I’m also more familiar with the cedar used in cedar chests - my mother had one and it smelled so nice, she kept special things in it and it only got opened occasionally. Are you saying that if I lined my closet with cedar fence pickets it would have all the anti-bug effects of cedar chest cedar? Thanks and love your presentation style!
Ive had good luck with my pickets from lowes, they are red and have a yummy scent, it also depends on if they are stored outside or inside at the store. Ours are generally kept inside

Thats an awesome idea! I sold some to a lady at work and she gets 3"x3" cuts, puts them in a breathable bag in her camper
I didn't know there was a need for these. Great idea for scrap cedar.
Now ya know! :) its an easy sell. Even if you cut equal size pieces and put them in a breathable bag
“Watch that grab!” Wiser words were never spoken 👍
100% buddy. Especially when the battery gets low

The wall in my closet was terrible. I lined it with planed down cedar fence pickets. Smells great and looks so good!

I get my pickets from home depot and they have a sort of sweet smell versus a musty one. I wonder if it's a geographical difference 🤔

That's western cedar. Eastern (or Spanish) cedar is used in closets and has much more aroma.

In Hungary we use dried lavender for this purpose as cedar is hardly accessible here…
