Love these too man! I don’t know how many times I’ve been at my work bench, forgot my pencil on my table saw, walked over to get it, with my tape. Come back to my bench, pencil in hand, then forget where my tape was. Rinse and repeat two more times lol
It's frikkun great to see a guy making stuff without a $5000 SawStop saw, Festool dominos, Harvey dust collector, Woodpecker squares, etc., and not smearing Rubio Monocoat all over everything. You demonstrated in this video, a good lesson for newbies is to make some jigs for the tablesaw (i.e. tenoning jig, sled). It will save lots of grief and improve your quality. I gave up on the pencil thing and now have pencils everywhere. Occasionally I have to take a minute and re-distribute them around the shop. Haha. Thanks.
Love your videos, and to answer your question, I lose my pencil, tape measure, and square all the time! Working on my new shop and plan on having it set up in stations and each station will have each of those items and anything else for that station that could be needed. Keep the projects coming.
It helps with stability to slap a 5 degree bevel long to short on your legs for the step stool. Helps kick the legs out ever so slightly. Keep up the good work!
Hey Daniel.....to make wood look "rustic", I attach a bunch of old keys on a ring, and attach a string or chain.......then just THROW the key ring down, all over the board/project.
First of all, Thank you kindly for not only the 'Simple Made' project showcase, but also the 'How It's Made' demonstration. I appreciate you bud! 2nd off, I love the rain🌧 noise in the background! 😄 It give the whole video a dose of 'Character', just like the 'Character' you give to your projects before you stain them, 😅 Thanks again for the video bud, I really enjoyed it!
I’m in the middle of a shop reorganization project because all I do is look for things! I’m hanging most everything on the walls. As for pencils and tape measures I have multiples of them lying around everywhere. So at least I can find them.
Think I'm gonna make the step stool. But I'm going to make it taller and call it a footrest for my wife. She's been wanting it for our deck. Nice builds. Catch you on the next live. Lata 🤘
Great Daniel! I love when you have more than one project in each video! Happy as hell when there are two, but elated when three! Each project is simple enough that even beginners can do them, but excellent ideas for novice workers to put spin on and make them our own! Daniel, my friend, you keep getting better every day!
A suggestion for the step stool. Before cutting out the triangle for the legs, drill a hole (say, 1 inch diameter though that is not critical) at the apex of the triangle to relieve the stress point. It also adds an aesthetic feature.
I have pencils, rulers, and tapes all over the place. So I only have to search for them a few times a day, because they all end up in the same place together. I guess they like being together. :)
New sub here Daniel. Love your channel. Another way to distress new timber is to fill a cloth sack with nuts, bolts, washers etc and then hit the timber piece with it. Leaves thread marks and dents and flat indentations all over. Really pops when stained up. Solved the pencil issue by purchasing 20 and leaving them all over the workshop.
Hey thanks so much for the sub my friend , and thanks for the nuts and bolts tip ! I’ve tried the 20 pencil deal and some how I still misplace every last one ! 😂 I think it’s bout time for a apron
John Ricker here. Gotta say another great video my friend. Here in about a week I'll have data back on my phone so i can watch lives. I miss yall. Tomorrow is gonna be my first day back in the shop since mom moved in a d my fiance broke her ankle. I totally love the magazine rack. I've thought about putting a faux wall up in the shop hadn't really thought about a small one for a booth table. Shouldn't be too hard. We'll I'll catch ya later. Love ya mean it!
Daniel, another great video. About the only thing I might change on the step stool, would be to cut a slot in the center of the top for a hand hold to make it easier to pick it up.
I have a pencil at each tool. Table saw, miter saw, drill press, band saw. But usually I have one stuck in my hair bun. I tell the grand children that it keeps my head from falling off. ;-)
I bought a pack of pencils and left one at every tool station after getting frustrated with constantly misplacing or forgetting where I sat it down. I still misplace them.. so its not a perfect science but it helps.
I use to lose my pencil all the time but once I bought a 20$ pencil I haven’t lost it since. Probably because I paid a lot for it so I take better care of it and always know where it’s at. If you have 10 cheap pencils laying around you tend not to care about them so you lay them down anywhere. I also just got the pica pencil and love the white lead for marking walnut material.
Loving the builds! As for the question you asked.. Let's not discuss how many times I lose my pencil during a shop session. I keep at least a dozen in the shop and have them all brightly colored if they don't stand out enough
I couldn't here the rain on your roof over the rain on mine. We're getting some rare but extremely welcome summer rain here in the Texas hill country. Several inches worth.
Love the three projects… could you make all the cuts on you jacket/hat hook and then cut it in half on the bandsaw and get two hooks or do you get better results cutting it first. Love the video and the rain… San Diego here, rain is special. Thanks for sharing.
So you could however it’d be tricky and may require some sort of jig (does that make sense ) with the angles it’d be pretty difficult to safely cut it at bandsaw . Thank Thom , on my next live remind me of this comment and I’ll demonstrate what I’m talking about with the” danger “
Nice book shelf. It lookd good but I see the books or magazines are resting on the edge of the bosrd. I Might suggest cutting the bottom board at an angle to be level to the floor and the book sits on it.
The issue about the table saw ,5" handsaw is cheaper than a table saw and takes less room than a table saw. In a high crime neighborhood where your shop is in a bedroom to prevent tool theft. Or a small shop. also a 5" band saw is cheaper an takes 1/2 the space. My 10" table saw & 8"jointer both weigh over 600 lbs. Had to lift with a lift last time they were moved with Trailer. Cannot be be stolen with a crew of less than 6 people!
@Bearded-Viking-WoodWorks I do need a favor though. I need you to go ahead and trademark your catchphrases. Then I can go ahead and tell my 9-year-old it's illegal for him to say add a dab of glue seven hundred thirty-six times every time we're in the shop.
I try to use a shop apron, something about my husband saying something about me ruining all my shirts and clothes don’t have any good shirts because their all work shirts, and before I head back up stairs I always “try” to make sure at least my main pencil is in the apron pencil pocket. But I also bought 3 boxes of cheap #2 or what Evers and have them practically littered around my shop.
"Anhhhh What's up Doc" as he pops out of the hole 🐰🕳️ "I lose my pencils so often that my kids bought me a 100pack for my birthday," she says in a Rodney Dangerfield voice 😂 True Story. But it's still not as often as I lose the tape wrapping presents 😜 Great Video D! Love the projects 🔥💜🔥 Fell asleep watching last night. Must've been the rain 😌 So I rewatched this morning and got to see how you did the hooks. BADASS 😎 Hope Y'all have an Awesome Day!
I finally understand it.. When you put spin on things and throw it, then say nice shot im guessing you only get a good shot 80% of the time, the other 20% land in the geese or chicken area and thats why they make noise in your videos, They are saying, wtf daniel i just cleaned this spot Edit: im @5:57 and daniel is dancing... again haha i love that, i dont know why it is so funny to me seeing this big ass viking of a man dancing like that and daniels giggle laughs, i dont expect it from a man that size but i absolutely love the child like spirit inside that just has to come out. I resolved the pencil problem wearing a wood working apron, I never loose anything again lol. Great video keep them coming!
Great projects. My added spin on the magazine/book holder would be to add some contrasting dowel rods at the 4 corners. Thanks again for sharing.
Hey great idea 💡
good idea on the contrasting woods.
Love hearing the rain on your Rooftop!!
Quite soothing indeed
Stools are fun and an easy project.
Pencils are like clamps...can’t have too many laying around. I have them everywhere in my shop.
