Dark Souls II takes place in Drangleic, a once prosperous land under the rule of King Vendrick, which has fallen to ruin throughout the ages with the raging war between humans and giants, the sudden disappearance of the King, and the spreading of the Undead Curse. Like many others, the protagonist has come to the crumbling kingdom in search of a cure for their crippling affliction, the Curse of the Undead. Dark Souls First Playthrough.

The candle room with the decoration chest is the home of the Bird man that you found under those cursed barrels. Great npc.

@@JoeSchwartz-yx3jg can you please use the right words for the objects(those aren't barrels there jars and the "candle room" is full of dolls), also Ornifex is female. I had trouble working out what you where talking about until you mentioned "bird man"(actually female)
Those Oil Worms in the Black Gulch are a good source to farm Titanite Chunk, other than Large Titanite Shards. Easiest way to kill them is by setting fire on the oil pool by using fire arrows, pyromancy spells or bombs or roll on them with torch. Make sure to wear the increase item drops gears first (such as Merchant Hat or Jester set and using some coins). It is the way if you desperately want those upgrade materials but don't want to join the Bell Covenant PvP.

Last week i did this area for this first time. I didn't have that much of a hard time with my torch on my hand but it's a problem only if you care about collecting all the interesting stuff in the gutter, getting around is a pain in the ass

I too cannot stand spiders.
I like the Gutter because it is so dark, but that's probably in part due to how lighting was played up a lot in DS2's preview material before they had to axe the lighting engine due to performance issues.
I really appreciate how these videos show that co-op can take some of the most miserable areas of these games and make them the best time.
I said it on one of Amber's videos, but I'll say it again: you two make the best co-op Souls videos because Emma+Amber=Ember.

@@Emmalition as a note, a lot of areas are easier if you just run through them if you're mindful, the torch is also really useful in some cases.
There's an obligatory key in Black Gulch which is needed for accessing certain areas. Look over the ledge.
Hi, for your information, in DS2 they implemented special co-op item called "Small White Sign Soapstone". You can get it in Forest of the Giants, above the bonfire where you met the "old lady merchant" - Cardinal Tower. This item works the same as normal "White Sign Soapstone", but it have far more limited time-spawn (8 -12 minutes, and killing enemies reduces X seconds from the remaning time) AND can be used in areas where you already killed the boss. It was created because not being able to summon friends after you kill the boss is stupid (Problem of DS1, and IDK if they kept this item in later games), and the main uses are:
- Short helps with exploration (you can resummon the player again without resting -> possible exploration progress)
- Trading of items
- Help in PVP (debatable, there are better PVP ways for protection summons)
Also the rewards for the phanthom are different (no Sunlight medals or other main rewards depending on your Covenant), but just "Smooth & Silky Stone" and refill of your HP/spells etc as normal. Hope it helps and good luck. BTW great progress, but consider returning to those areas for more exploration, and there is another area in the Pit that you missed, use ladders to get there (EDIT: You found the entrance to the Grave of saint, my bad) ;)

I love the jolly cooperation! You two create so much chaos in such a wholesome and hilarious way that I almost forget how terrified I’m of spiders.
So the part in the gutter with all the ladders going down, next to the bonfire. It's worth it to explore that area some more. My favourite incarnation of my favourite weapon in the whole genre is there, and you might like that for your strength build.
I used to go there really early. Go to Heides tower of flame, beat the Dragon knight, find Gavlan to buy poison throwing daggers, go back and buy the cat's ring, jump down into the hole with just enough vigor not to die, speed run the gutter (which is a bit of a hassle to work out at that level) and get my beloved weapon.
As for the poison daggers. There's something down there you haven't seen yet, or only part of. The reward is pretty handsome but at low level poison is the only way to get through it. It's pretty rough but I allways go for it when I go for that weapon because together it makes for such a cool thematic build, along with one of the spiky Dwarven helmet.
After 12 parts, I’m going to point it out that you can use lifegems one after another and the healing stacks, so if you use one, and then immediately use another, you will heal twice as quickly and for the full amount of both lifegems. You can use this to counteract damage like strong poison, or just when you need to heal more quickly.
Miyazaki was actually a supervisor on ds2, while directing his other projects such as ds1 dlc and bloodborne thus his time was probably very limited :D
The reason amber can’t see the great soul of freja is because she didn’t pick it up

@1:08:30 to get past that door, you will need to progress Creighton & Pate's quest-lines.
Always look forward to these co-op videos! Not sure if someone else mentioned it, but there's extra stuff to explore in the Gulch (along the cliff's edge, there are a couple of drop down points, if my memory serves me).
If it's any consolation, my first playthrough of DS2 ended at Brightstone Cove Tseldora because of how badly spiders frighten me.
All you needed was a friend there to pull you through it. I was worried she wouldn’t play it after the last episode but having amber there seemed to help her out of it.
Light the Primary Bonfire and return for the Duke's Dear Freya boss room. Like so many other things in Souls games it's not logical

I always have the best time watching you two play! The "plank prank" would not have been so funny if it was premeditated lol
ds 2 is weird in that i felt the boss designs were so lack luster aesthetically but the further i got into the game the more i liked it lol. after i got all achievements i just kept making new characters and replaying the game trying to do my own pseudo speedruns and challenge runs.

That place in Tseldora with the single candle in the room with the creepy dolls is a very important place. Go back to the shaded woods and go into the cave with all the basalisks, go to the end of the cave and open the door, though you might need the key which I think you get from killing the stone lion man next to the cave, so u will need a fragrant branch of yore.
The pickaxe, which the red phantom wields, can also be found in the area but is obtained in the most obscure way imaginable. Something to do with pigs.

Minor pronunciation nitpick: The "Zwei" part of your favorite sword Zweihander rhymes with 'eye', not 'bee'
Years of playing DS games and the Zweihander is my favorite weapon. And I never knew this.....I'm even on my 3rd playthrough of Elden Ring using that sword.

If you exhaust the locked away NPC's dialogue from the shaded woods with the basilisks they will come to Bightstone in that doll room and make boss weapons. You are now nolonger happy you didn't go the other way. Also the first jump spot there, Pate goes to if you exhaust his dialogue and retrieve the treasure he seen in Earthen Peaks.
You guys have such a great dynamic when you co-op these games together, love seeing it 🎉

Edit: also, I think that's the best mage staff when you reinforce it with a magic crystal. Makes your mage scaling go to s+.

A very popular misconception of this game. Miyazaki was in fact involved very heavily with this project. He wasn't the main creator behind DS2 but everything that did come to fruition in DS2 were not without his say and approval.
Plus his recent interview talking about how important ds2 was.
"I actually personally think [Dark Souls 2] was a really great project for us," said Miyazaki, "and I think without it, we wouldn't have had a lot of the connections and a lot of the ideas that went forward and carried the rest of the series."

Just to make sure you know this - weapon worn out is not shared between all weapons, but just one. It is meant to stimulate player to try different weapons.

All chests can be mimics, just hit them ONCE and walk away because in ds2 the mimics will suck you when they're woken up

I made up a vague rhyme for a point in the game you all are reaching within the next couple of areas. "They can all see you from across the map, a lovely voice resonates through the air, the ground littered with sparkling yellow traps, a demon's song lures you to it's watery lair" Prepare thyself as you will be reaching one of the worst areas in souls history very soon. Everyone collectively agrees even though this version of the game improved on it, it's still unbearably annoying the first time around. But, the boss is really neat despite it not being too tough. It's actually one of my favorite designs in the base game. I am stoked for the spicy reactions!
I just thought it would be fun to come up with that. Love to see the co-op again, especially in this god forsaken area. The first time through is terrifying if you go it alone. Those damned mouth hands made me panic die so many times.

i think you'll come to notice that DS2 i a good game burried under shitty levels like this and iron keep. it makes all the good parts of the game so unenjoyable. it's depressing!

@@yunleung2631 im happy you enjoy it! i personally like the black gulch better because it can lead to other content potentially (avoiding spoilers) and the run up to the rotten is very forgiving. visually i just like how green it is. the poison shots never bothered me there tbh.
@@badluckbrooks lighting up the gutter helps a lot. the second bonfire is also not hard to get to.
The entire gutter path is wild and weird. I love it more each time. But what they wanted to do with it was something like the underground areas of Elden Ring - it could have been so much more than what it is.
