Bowie was one of rock music's most vocal supporters of black artists. He called out MTV for not playing black videos until 2-3 am. His band was mostly brothers. He married an African woman and has a daughter by her.
He had major vanilla swag! Now wonder he showed up on ST & landed an African queen supermodel!
He’s so f’d up it’s shocking. I understand Don Cornelius was furious with him for it. He had to do multiple takes and the shoot went hours over schedule. He’s the GOAT regardless, love and miss you David! The Black Star for eternity ❤️
You may be high but you’ll never be Bowie on Soul Train high
🤣🤣🤣
Even in his highest....cocaine addiction had succumbed to his essence...pure soul.....plus cocaine back in the day was not the bs that we have today😢😢
I guess if he's actually there it's okay, but it's so odd to play pretend singing, especially with no band.
Thank you for sharing. I recently found out that he was the first white artist on Soul Train. Such a gifted man, he will be missed profoundly. Such a genuine man to share his gifts.
Think Elton John was the first
@@Tanaferry nope.. Gino Vannelli was first
@@fernandoperdomomusic Actually it was Dennis Coffey
@@fernandoperdomomusic ....you...are correct.....and he is still very grateful for the experience....
Elton John was the first.
Its funny how out of place he is in that room. Bowie (or Boo-wee as Americans are want to pronounce) proves here he can be drunk on his ass with coke packed up to his brain and he will STILL perform better than any of his contemporaries ever could.
I am so glad he pulled himself out of the coke horror.
Blitzed out of his mind … the times were wild!
All those folks in the audience would be over 65 now. Great performance. Great vibe.
Bowie seems high as a kite but just the rush of performing this bad ass shit as the first white dude ever on Soul Train may well be enough to explain it
He has said he was so nervous about being on Soul Train that he got drunk beforehand. I’m sure he was high as a kite too!
He WAS high as a kite. He said in an interview that he doesn't remember anything about this performance.
This was the height of his cocaine addiction so he’s deff high
@@brett8460 lots of white stuff - - -look for his interviews - one of them he can stop playing with his cane, it's hilarious
After an avalanche of Columbian marching powder
jacked..busy creating a body of work that will last forever. thanks david for all the music. true treasure of a man.
I watched this show and American Bandstand, we were all just people, back in the good old days..all this skin tone nonsense...
He is lit as fukc ! oh well, he was a musician, and it was 1975
見つけた!ソウルトレインでデビッドボウイを見たと言っても誰も信じてくれなかった。これで証明できる。ありがとう。
Found it! No one believed me when I said I saw him on Soul Train. This is proof. Thanks.
D.C. lookin' at him like "I know this mofo ain't up here on my show f-ed up."
😂!
He's tripping balls but I still love him.
I've been watching Soul Train since I was little and I don't remember this. I guess I missed this. I love the song Fame. R.I.P Bowie.
Damn he looked stoned as fuck hahahaha but was a great moment.
....he did his legendary interview for PLAYBOY magazine he said he drank a whole bottle of wine and got drunk....he said he was scared to death of going on Soul Train ...his big album Young Americans was doing very well...his plastic soul record he called it...but he felt the kids on the show were so funky and soulful would see through him and think he was pretentious....but we all loved the album...and him...his appearance on the show was a very important cultural moment..there he was a WHITE ....white man...rocking an ORANGE POMPADOUR...singing on the hippest show on the planet....he later was very proud...but he was so scared at the time...
@@CuirPhotodotNet totally! It was an important event at his career and in the culture! Even though he wasn’t sober, David did it very well! it’s normal to get nervous before making history as you say, and it also makes sense with David’s life at those years, he was struggling with his mental health and his addiction at that time, but he kept doing music and making masterpieces, such a legend.
I think he was always totally stoned then. Don't know how he could even talk.
@@lanitacereza ...what moves me is all these black people admiring him so much..then when he died....they REALLY gave him props...mostly rappers believe it or not..but i know his biggest fan....was PRINCE...
I believe David Bowie gave Luther Vandross a jump start to his career?
True
....true...there were several people that were in the position to do it....but they DIDN'T....but BOWIE DID....
Yes, Luther sang on Bowie's Young Americans album which was produced by Nile Rodgers.
...BOWIE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE EUROPEAN SINGERS!
He got told off for being beaked
Thank you so much for uploading this! It was my first experience of him at 10! I don't remember what thought then but a few years later and after Ziggy...well! Maybe it was the drugs or maybe he knew he was breaking a huge ceiling being on Soul Train! It's cool to watch him in and out of character
THANK YOU. So rare; I LOVE it. 💫💙🧜🏻♂️
We still miss the old school music, not necessarily the Vinyl
should have asked Him to shout out to the bros: "the sooooooooooul traaaaain"
Thank you so very much for sharing.🤩🙌👩🎤🧑🎤
The only white guy there
THE. THIN. WHITE. DUKE.
Brilliant - thanks for this - i remember seeing this.
Boo wey was coked up 😮😅 Fame Fame fame
Bowie would hit his low point on the Cher Show....Jesus.
We even copied his hairstyles
Stoned.
Don Cornelius was said to be insulted by Bowies behavior on the set of Soul Train ..his lip synched performance was half hearted and half assed. Elton by contrast connected with the crowd and clearly appreciated his audience. Bowies " I listened to James Brown on the street corners" was embarrassing to watch. Decades later his Black tie white noise yuppie pontificating on race relations was a groaner as well.

Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere
Angel
Come get up, my baby
Look at that sky, life's begun
Nights are warm and the days are young
Come get up, my baby
There's my baby, lost that's all
Once I'm begging you save her little soul
Golden years, gold whop whop whop
Come get up, my baby
Last night they loved you
Opening doors and pulling some strings
Angel
Come get up, my baby
In walked luck and you looked in time
Never look back, walk tall, act fine
Come get up, my baby
I'll stick with you, baby, for a thousand years
Nothing's gonna touch you in these golden years
Gold
Golden years, gold whop whop whop
Come get up, my baby
Some of these days, and it won't be long
Gonna drive back down where you once belonged
In the back of a dream car twenty foot long
Don't cry, my sweet, don't break my heart
Doing all right, but you gotta get smart
Wish upon, wish upon, day upon day, I believe, oh Lord
I believe all the way
Come get up, my baby
Run for the shadows, run for the shadows
Run for the shadows in these golden years
There's my baby, lost that's all
Once I'm begging you save her little soul

Whop whop whop indeed
Golden YEaOooRsss
David Bowie. The man. The icon.
What kind of English accent is that? 2:25
I remember something about 8 tracks
He was full of drugs
Get down Bowie ✊🏾
David Boo-ie, really? 😂😂 But quite interesting to see. High a s a kite indeed. Thanks for persistently reposting this.
Compact discs are an excellent improvement
Soooooo gooood!
Bowie was an ET all the way. For an ET the color of the vessel (body) is a non-issue. But music-wise he was absolutely an ET. What he did in these two songs and many others was so extremely creative and new. He has been extending borders all of his life until his last breath. Ask Philip Glass, who was another innovator in his kind (minimalistic music) and worked with him and Brian Eno. They are all Heroes.
The Best!!!!
Miss the guy!
Page 3. Starman David Bowie The definitive biography.
Wow. I never knew!
Drugs?
Awesome :)
Fame is too funky for the soul train dancers to get a groove. Watch them dance like Caucasians. They seem a little lost.
Gold comment
It's the other way round - even Chic couldn't give his songs a groove.
Put Bowie on if you want to clear the dancefloor!
Wow that was awkward shit
Thank you for sharing with us ❤

It'll cost you an arm and a leg to buy a Victrola today. Save yours.I accidentally threw mine in the garbage..they told me it was bad masking..DUMB DUMB JUICE
Soul equals spirit
Soul is what you have in you that’s it
Boooey ?
Poor Milli Vanilli, they been lip syncing for a long time.
But they lip synced totally different people singing
Holy smokes, I love David Bowie, but he was high as a kite. I don’t understand why talented artists get high when they’re about to perform. (Never mind the hard stuff in general…) Addiction sucks.
Eventually the tape ripped
Ella Walker, David Vincent, Glenn Stafford
Was he a red head or blonde? This might have been the Ziggy years approaching. Before my time but I got to see Bowie first in Labyrinth and he was older
This was a couple years after he retired ziggy and stated doing a-lot coke. I think the hair might have been for the movie he was filming at the time but I couldn’t be wrong about that.
Feathers and real short on top ..I don't look good with red hair
He acts wasted 😵💫
he was. He said so himself in another interivew around that time. He said he was nervous and drank too much before this
He presenter bollocked him for being so out of it
@@mistressmozart ....Playboy Magazine is where he talks about it....all...smile....
@@CuirPhotodotNet he talked about it in a recorded interview as well with Russell Harty which showed this clip
@@mistressmozartNot drunk, but coked out of his mind, but you have to give to him, he put on a good show.
❤
high on coke
and drunk
Top bollocks :)
All these blacks took pity on poor David. Lol!
Now, put some good music on!
He's not a homosexual
Girl even he confirmed (many times), that he is a bisexual.
you're right, he's bisexual, as he has stated in two interviews
Who asked?
@stylesspinilli2278false
He was bi during the early 70s and ended that shit when he got older
Cocaine....alot of cocaine.
David Bouy? Dude get it right. You don't know how lucky you were to have him appear there.
....in his legendary interview in PLAYBOY magazine....David said HE....was scared to death to be on the show...that is how important the show was....he drank a whole bottle of wine and got drunk just to cope...he admitted HE....was the lucky one...this was a very important cultural moment for the planet....the 1st openly bisexual rock star...going on the hippest show on the planet...with an ORANGE POMPADOUR....the planet was NOT READY....LOL....
@@CuirPhotodotNet Exactly this. On Young Americans, Bowie was taking heavy influence from what was still very predominantly Black genre. For him to dip his toes into that world and then to be validated by being invited on soul train would be the greatest honour he could receive for that album.
Its a black american thang David Boo-wuey !!! 😅 get over it
