Labour voters, are mainly young and on benefit. Also the Muslim voting block.
      Pro immigration, and high tax.
This leads to the rich people leaving. That means no investment in the UK.
Low quality immigrants push down your wage. No house to buy. Benefits for UK people go to immigrants.
But when they start to make any money and get older they want more conservative policies.
Tories are the same as Labour now.

Yeah and the old guy says he was only being paid £5 when he was 18 and there was no way he could afford a house then. A total false equivalence. To start with his fiver is worth £148.27 in today's money, according to the BoE, but more importantly this was at the age of 18 and he was carrying zero student debt. The kids are looking at never being able to buy a house. Average age of a first time buyer is already 35. He might not have bought a house at 18, but he almost certainly did in his 20s.

Don't forget, we learned about climate change in the 70s. For decades this generation were warned; "think of your children and grandchildren" and then they didn't.
They'll be dead soon, the inhospitable planet, food insecurity, economic instability, refugee crises etc as a result of climate change will have to be paid for by the younger generation, but at least the old people didn't need to inconvenience themselves or do anything differently.
They are the first generation in modern history to leave their children and grandchildren worse off than they were. The fact that they're still voting conservative, even knowing the damage it does to the younger generation really is beyond the pale....... Oh and they voted proportionately more for Brexit too.

    • @JoannaSmilesLots

I think about this all the time. I'm 25 and I was made aware that climate change is an existential threat from the age of maybe 5? 6 at the latest? We were told our entire childhood's that the planet is dying and we're responsible, but at least we can all recycle, switch the lights off, and turn off the taps. Then I get to like 12 and realise not only are things actually worse than that because little to no (or even backwards) progress has been made on the actual sweeping changes that need to be made, but enough of the generation before me actually don't even think it's worth it to do anything at all. Just kicking the can down the road so we have to deal with it.

In the last year of National Service, 1960, the youngest age of those men (and they were ALL men) was 21 after the rules had been changed in the late 1950s. This means that the youngest National Serviceman is now 85 years of age this year. No because we are smart enough to look at multiple cities and places across countries and see that the UKs housing market is not specifically spiking due to immigration. Countries with similar levels of immigration and people can still afford homes because houses are not simply investments for landlords who can evict tenants at will and raise rents to whatever insane level they want.
We know why we can't afford homes. Immigration is a factor but by no means the most pressing.
We are also very aware that without immigration there would not be enough doctors, nurses or care workers to care for our ageing great grandparents, grandparents and parents and without that we would be expected to somehow pay even more out of our dwindling incomes- thank you Brexit and old people for that as well.

This is demography on a global scale for developed countries. The healthcare and social care need is for a still vast majority white older population. White people in the UK did not have enough kids to replace the working population that would be needed for a healthcare system for their old people. This is happening for populations in Scandinavia, Germany, South Korea, Japan, the US.
Problem for the old is you can blame immigration as much as you like. But who is caring for these old white British people if we don't have it? And unless pensioners wealth is taxed how could we otherwise afford to increase the pay of care workers who are mostly sub minimum wage so that British born people are willing to do the jobs?

They are not getting older. They are the generation that managed to buy all the properties in the 1970-80-90. Now they are making tons of money. While the youngsters are suffering because the old have all hoarded the houses to them selves and nothing affordable is left for the youngsters due to the economy. It’s a generational problem not an age problem.

Don't blame the old for the crimes of politicians. They are responsible for the economy. You lot want everything for free, right now. Oldie here who only cleared his mortgage at age 61.We live in these houses, don't rent them out, don't make a 'ton of money' Hoarded all the houses? Bought them, more like, over 25 to 30 years. Now every new build in Leeds is specifically aimed at students... Normal Leeds citizens don't even get a look in.

Indeed. I tend to think this whole ‘Tory voters are dying out’ could be a headline any time between 1850 and the present day… people get older: ergo the elderly vote is constantly replenished.
Still, would be a better country if the old didn’t become greedy, selfish, curmudgeonly toads and actually believed in a social contract as they aged 🤷‍♂️
