    The show could use a reboot, with a well structured and coherent story line this time. I don't know which one it would go with, the toy line or the 80's series, but the possibility of a mash-up could be a possibility through the use of dimensional gateways or abandoned vehicles being found and rebuilt. - There are decent possibilities if you are willing to look.

    Man, the toys seem like they were grafted onto a preexisting show. It's as if the producers had the cartoon idea first, then acquired the rights to the toys and just shoved them in there. The disconnect is really that big, innit?
    Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors--Probably the biggest WTF in 80s toy cartoon history.
    Another GREAT video, gang!

    Yeah, there for awhile, less really was more when it came to toys. The other day, my neighbor and I were trying to name off all of the mini figures and vehicles we had like that. We got as far as;
    MASK,
    MUSCLE,
    Monster in My Pocket,
    Air Raiders,
    Wheeled Warriors,
    Sky Commanders,
    Dino Riders,
    Starcom,
    Bone Age,
    Mighty Max,
    and (one of my personal favorites) Battle Beasts.
    I'm sure there was another line with magnets in their feet besides Starcom, and alot of others we forgot.lol :)

    I didn't even know there was a cartoon until your videos. I just thought the toyline was suppose to be an intergalactic demolition derby or something. I remember getting Saw Boss on sale for $4-$5 after a trip to the doctor. It may not have had "action" features like firing missles or an articulate pilot, but the detail and ability to customize more than made up for what it lacked. It became one of my most played with toys for several years. Especially against my Mask and Air Raiders toys.lol :D

    The best part of watching your videos is they are both entertaining and very informative. This three part series did not make me want to go out and get the show or Mattel vehicles, but did get rid of the dust from that corner of my mind and got another theme song into my musical lexicon. Mission accomplished I'd say.

    I will always be confused with Mattel. I still cannot understand why they did not follow the original story of He-Man. There was no Prince Adam, Sorceress and Orko. And Man-At-Arms did not have a mustache! He-Man got his strength from his armor dammit!!! I mean, He-Man and Skeletor both came with a half of the power sword for a reason. Trap Jaw was not a dumb ass. He was a scary kick ass bad guy!!!! Mattel should never allowed for any of their toy lines to have a cartoon that did not make sence.

    Just discovered your video series. WW was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid, but unlike G.I.*JOE or Transformers, it's not easy to come by old episodes to watch, so I haven't seen it since it aired. You're right about the theme song, it and MASK were my two favorites. As far a disconnect between the toy line and cartoon, I guess that's one of those things I never paid attention to as a kid, much like I never realized things like Cobra-La being the downfall of the G.I.*JOE. Good reviews, I look forward to watching more of them.

      Starriors was a cool toyline with potential that was run over by the TransFormers, Voltron, Go Bots and Robotech! Other victims of these robot themed properties' success include Robotix and MASK!

    OMG -All they had to do was add screwy little red hats to the top of the figures' heads, and they would've had the first and only DEVO TOY LINE!! Absolutely awesome! I can totally see Mothersbaugh and company driving around in these vehicles, sitting things right through out the galaxy! The opening theme of the cartoon would've taken a different direction though.

    Its great to see a video about the toys and cartoon, because to this day, when I mention this show and these toys, noone has any idea what Im talking about!!! I never understood why the figures that came with the vehicles (original lightning league soldiers) were never mentioned in a "flashback" concept episode for the show.. Seems like it would have helped the plot move along better

    This is the first time I've stumbled across your videos, and they are awesome! I'm going to make it a mission to watch all of the others you've done. The one thing I'd say about Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors though, is that although everything you've said is indeed completely accurate, watching it through a child's eyes and an adult's eyes is a different experience. As a child in the UK, I used to get up at 6am just to watch that cartoon, and loved it so much I did a school project on it. I never even gave a thought to the continuity issues, which now you've pointed out are laughably obvious, but as a 6-8 year old you just don't bother about those things. I thought it was an awesome cartoon from start to finish. Just a personal opinion of course. :-)

    You guys should definitely do a video on the sheer number of "vehicle with minifigure" toys that came out in the 80's/early 90's. Just off the top of my head I can recall Jayce, Shadow Strikers, MASK, Starcom, and Air Raiders. I'm sure there's way more than that.

    I came across an auction a few years back that had the entire run of wheeled warriors for 150 bucks all told with shipping. It was a pretty good price at the time especially how they have gone up to nearly 60 + bucks for loose vehicles. I'll have to shoot you some pics on the fb page of the group of them.

    Very, very cool. Just discovered your channel while searching for the theme song. Pretty sure I owned every toy you guys show in the intro, so I'm pretty drunk on nostalgia right now. For those interested, the premise/story for this show was written by J. Michael Straczynski (He-Man, She-Ra, Spiral Zone, Babylon-5) and he originally intended for there to be a feature-length movie, which he even wrote a script for, but flagging ratings/toy sales as well as editorial interference drove him to abandon the project, and so we never got to see Audric & Jayce reunite and finish the Monster Minds. Still, the original ideas were ambitious and creative, and as mentioned in the video, the designs were pretty cool and unique. Shame it never reached its potential.

    Noticed in the 80's & 90's they also made cartoons based on movies like the "Ghostbusters", "Beetlejuice", and "Back From The Future". Cartoons are based on what kids love the most whatever it's a comic strip like "Garfield and Friends", board games like "Dungeons & Dragons", popular toys "The Transformers", or comic books like "X-Men" they are just made to be entertaining nothing political about it.

    • @Tigerheart01
      @Tigerheart01 5 лет назад +1

      ...and that's why Gen X is so nostalgic over it. We miss the more innocent and naive parts of the 80s. Even though we know about the pick up in drug use, the emergence of AIDS, and all the other bad things that happened in the 80s... It's still one of the more "upbeat" and optimistic decades.

    For toys like this, usually the toy company designed the toys, then send them off to a cartoon house. The cartoon house was responsible for only vaguely following the toy line's themes. Of course you could blame the toy company for not forcing them to follow the official story.

  • @SkyFireDrone2022
    @SkyFireDrone2022 5 лет назад

    Man I had Saw Boss, Armed Force, and the Monster Mind pick-up sitting in storage for decades until I finally just said, why do I still have these? They were cool in that they were so interchangeable (Centurions, anyone?) but there was just not enough to the toy line. They are probably so rare because yeah, they were just not memorable. Plus, I think the toy line had been out for quite awhile before the cartoon came out and by then, the stores stopped carrying them. I only saw them at department stores who were notorious for over-pricing their toys so that would be the only reason you would see them on the shelves. The toys were well-made,though. A lot sturdier than what passes today. The timing was right but the execution flopped. Especially when G.I.Joe and Transformers were taking our money. Still, one of THE best title songs ever. Right there with M.A.S.K. and Thundercats 🤓😎

    They had storybooks for Wheeled Warriors and guess what? They used the cartoon characters, not the little guys in brown overalls, AND they just called the books the Wheeled Warriors series, not "Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors."
    All I can think is that maybe Mattel changed leadership for this project and was just trying to shovel these toys out the door and the Jayce stuff was a sop to DIC and the children's book publishers.

I did not even tie this in my mind to the show even though I did see a little bit of the show here and there. In this case I think they would have benefited to having the vehicles slightly bigger, maybe 3 3/4 scale? Are the figures the size of the MASK characters? Without the characters from the show represented at all I totally understand this series failure. - Dan

  • @Chosenhorse2
    @Chosenhorse2 10 лет назад

    Making cartoons based on toys were the reality shows of the 80's & early 90's, since the popularity of hit cartoons like "The Transformers", "G.I. Joe", and "He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe" all 3 already had toys out years before the cartoons and all 3 became highly rated hit TV shows since then every TV channel want their own hit cartoons so they followed with "Thundercats", "Gobots", "Silverhawks", "Jayce and The Wheeled Warriors", "My Little Pony", "MASK" etc.. The cartoons were not selling anything, they're just made to be fun, enjoyable & entertaining to watch so they can draw in TV ratings, if a cartoon isn't entertaining enough it won't stay on the air for long. TV channels can careless how much money Hasbro or Mattel is making they simply put out cartoons for the kids to watch on TV, shows like "Jayce And The Wheeled Warriors" once shared time slots with cartoons that haven't made toys for like Scooby Doo, Heathcliff and "Inceptor Gadget", that's all they cartoons did was entertain.
