Only reason pros want to grow the sport is to sale more products and in return they think that gets them more sponsor dollars. They want to grow their pocket book, not genuinely grow the sport.
Very IRONIC isn't it? Though it will just continue to get worse because the show must go on and the heartless corporations must make profits. Earth, habitat, and conservation be damned, so long as they all get paid.

Indeed. Especially since covid started suddenly every dipshit and their brother thinks they a pro angler. I seen more line and junk in water past 2 years cuz noobs snip their line instead of going to get lure or pulling line to break it at the knot if they gotta break it. Ive seen more people taking 3-5lbers from lakes to “fry up” or “get it mounted”. YOU DONT NEED A MOUNT BRO--You gotta have that to show everyone u a better angler than them??? Wtf, Our tech is great now, take some vids, pics, and release or measure and get pics and get a replica mount-killing a fish for a mount is a waste, how much of that fish u think they actually use?? Theres lakes and areas Ive gone to my whole life and known I could pretty regularly catch 4-5lbers. This year those same lakes just have far more tiny bass…..everyone saying its gone downhill. We need more fish and game officers out there, we need more lakes managed as fisheries with grass and stuff over rec boaters and killing vegetation. In my state theres a lake where you can keep 1 bass per day and it has to be 20 inches. This lake is full of 4lbers+, and not hammered by tourneys because they only allow catch, photo, release tourneys; its near impossible for anyone to get a limit of 20 inch+ fish so theres no boat tourneys there unless they doing a tourneyx style where u photo them. Also at this lake theres no skiing or jet skis or boats over 22 ft allowed. Theres no engine restrictions or anything, but they left all timber standing when they made the lake so its dangerous for watersports they ban it. And they dont kill the grass off. We need more of these type lakes around the country. I dont like the keeping 1 fish over 20in though thats an older, solid bass; I think u should be able to keep one fish between 12-15 inches or none at all.
Sounds extremely similar to a description of lake Eufaula in regards to high level tournament fishing and fish kills
Tournaments have advanced the sport. Too many tournaments have degraded our fisheries. Too much fishing pressure this past weekend at Grand. I was in the US Open. Fishing was tough. Good luck to you Randy. I think 10-12 pounds a day will be good.

I commented on yesterday's video the same thing. Grand lake WAS epic. You could catch 20lbs on a jig year round. 18 lbs wouldn't even get u a check between 1990-2003. It really is a sad evolution of a lake!!

I understand and appreciate your frustrations, but you as well as anyone should recognize that getting government over sight of your fisherman and fishery will only lead down a dark and more expensive pathway. More government is not the answer for better fisheries. The government would then form all water ways to be essentially accessible to the rich. Our public waterways, paid for by tax payer dollars would be private lakes for the wealthiest.
Your damn skiffy more government's not the answer anytime government manages anything they turn into a cluster bang personally I think the pro anglers themselves need to develop a union just like a player's union in the NFL and NBA or the MLB and they need to say we're not doing this to these lakes anymore there's no reason they can't spread these tournaments out over several different bodies of water
Bullhockey, in fact it would be the opposite. Public lands for the public. The lack of oversight is the problem, it allows the wealthy and corporations to pillage the environment at their leisure.

It’s private business and tournament orgs messing everything up. Yes, need more government in these situations. Describes High Rock to a T. The pressure and boat after boat hitting every dock and point repeatedly has just turned the lake off.
Makes sense to just stop tournaments across the US.

I live 15 minutes from grove and I’ve fished grand this year and it’s been tough every time, I have to completely agree with you fishing pressure is bad there. Even on the weekend wolf creek is packed with boat after boat
The city” government” needs to sit limits on the tournaments, plant fish friendly habitats along the shore line and start caring about the lake and not the $$$
The sport has grown high school college series etc. the lakes have not grown. More fishermen now days and lakes are getting over pressured.
Extreme tournament pressure is undeniable. Another approach would be to increase the legal limit to 18 inches. That way tournaments would not be causing so many 14-16 inch fish to be relocated and abused. Too many guys bring in a limit of 15 inch fish when they have no chance for a check.
That sounds good but you can't just change limits so easily. Alabama Power Company has a thing called "The Water Course" here in my hometown, home of one of the first hydroelectric dams in America. They have a computer program that lets you alter limits hypothetically. It shows you the results of your choice. The state ichthyologists and fisheries biologists pretty well have it figured out. That said, I agree with your choice. I also agree that tournaments are simply out of control in America. Every high school, fire department, and even some CHURCHES are holding tourneys these days. I say EVERY body of water in this country should be allowed only ONE derby per month. ONE. You either fish it or miss it. Your choice. Also, no tourneys during the spawn. Period. So that would reduce the number of events here on the Lower Coosa River from about 750 a year to 9. Now THAT is change I can handle.
Perfect, last night I checked and found my BFL division regional is on Grand 18 hour one way trip. This morning I see this video. Another poster said it, seems to be a common situation across the country.
That's why we don't need to grow the sport folks!! It was a better sport when it was small the more mainstream it becomes the worse off every lake will be
This has happen to lakes all over the country, I started bass fishing in 1970 didn't appreciate how many 3-4-5 and 6lb fish we caught until now .
Reminds me of Beaver Lake. I've been fishing it since '66 or '67 and the quality has diminished here as well. Still some good fishing (at times), but not what it was.
The fishing has done a turn just like the hunting , people with money will only be doing it in the future , it’s all about the money
I believe the same thing is happening all over the country . I used to fish Guntersville. Not no more. Too many boats and tournaments, and not near the quality fish as back in ( say , early 2000s). Ohio , where i live. is horrible. I went from catching 20-30 fish a day to where I cant hardly get a bite. Tournament reevaluation, habitat, fish care and I think more importantly ( fish stocking) are tbe biggest keys to helping fisheries. They stock every thing in Ohio But Bass. I ASKED Why? The DNR said they never really thought about stocking bass. ... even though 80 % of the people fishing are fishing for bass .
From a fishing perspective you are probably correct. In the 60's and 70's there would probably be 1/4 of people living on the lake for loss of habitat. And there are no more open undeveloped area like Carrey bay or upper wolf creek, Patricia Island upper elk the upper river area.
But the pollution angle is something that could be addressed honey creek and elk river face pollution from Missouri based poultry industries .
They do need start an managing lake more effectively for all communities to be able to use.
My oldest son lives right where the Elk widens out into Grand. Just the other side of that bluff you pointed out.
I lived in Grove OK. from "78" thru "90". You are exactly right Randy, developers have ruined the habitat. I didn't get a chance to fish Grand for about 10 years. The first thing I noticed? Where are all those beautiful willows? Places that we had caught fish flipping before are gone. GRDA has never cared about this once great fishery.

Really sad to watch these lakes decline! Makes me want to move back to Texas just for that reason. Texas has slot limits and care more for their lakes than the MDOC!
I fish river/creeks in Missouri. They have gone to hell over the last 10 years too.

This is a problem with one of my favorite local lakes in South Texas: Choke Canyon. Everyone I talk to tells me how great Choke Canyon was in the 80s and 90s, but you can't buy a bite at any of the obvious cover given the amount of immense pressure the lake facing every single weekend.
These tournaments need to be regulated and we need more restrictions on when tournaments can be held.
I agree with 100% the army for of engineers do a good job here in North Carolina and the wildlife people do too.
Man I'm depressed! We had a place at spinnaker point on duck creek. We were right on the water. I use to look down at the water and see large fish of all species swimming by. This was the mid 1970s and I bet you don't see that now. : (

Amen brother I love tournament fishing but I'm telling you right now it is destroying or legs I agree with you a hundred percent there needs to be some type of national organization that have all these tournament organizations has to answer to there needs to be limits put on how many major tournaments a year a lake can hold and spread that freaking pressure out I'm not saying due away with a tournament but quit having three or four high level tournaments a week on these lakes it's ridiculous and we as fans need to stop watching and need to start protesting this that's the biggest thing we can do to get the attention of the tournament organizations and you guys as professional anglers need to say no or not doing this anymore.
I can rennet fishing cedar creek lake in Texas in the late 60’s . I was just a kid we caught so many bass and it had abundant fish habitat now it’s just over developed.
Who owns that ‘tournament center’? Is it public or privately owned? I’m assuming tournaments are paying to come and use that facility? If so you’re have a hard time limiting tournaments. It like trying to limit a state run lottery - once the politicians get their hands on a lucrative revenue stream its almost impossible to get them off it unless there is some huge public outcry ..

When I say we I mean my in-laws. We live in Colorado so there’s no “big” lakes.
Just visited Lake of the Ozarks, sad what has happened to that lake as well. The development on it is insane. The traffic on it in mid October was insane between the go fast boats and the bass boats. The water clarity is half of what it was just 8 or ten years ago. Sad

When I was a kid it was the gillnets for the saltwater fish being over fished now that’s closed but they have way too many fisherman with captains license now down south which should be limited , saltwater fish are being overfished again

Randy I don’t agree with you on a lot of things but I do on this. Same thing has happened to Chickamaugua my home lake. It’s not the big bass mecha like most people make it out to be. There are big fish in chick but for the most part it fishes small and I’d go as far as to say it’s kind of overrated. All the tournaments and fishing pressure from weekend warriors has killed chick. I often cringe when people say “we need to grow the sport”. What do you want to grow it to, extinction?

All my ponds are dead and dry,lil backups and creeks as well...Rivers are sand and bedrock with maybe a few feet in pockets that were the deep holes long ago...
I waded across the salt fork of the Arkansas,just today,and the deepest part in the main channel(at Ponca City) was nipple high on me(im 6'5)....
I dont know where they,or their water went,but my entire fishing life is essentially over now,ive fished for over 30 years..
I caught 55#s of bass,on table rock,on the bank,when bassmasters 3 day was 60,and i pulled mine in 4 hours in front of Stacey King😂😅,then told him that 40k boat was a bad idea(my best fishin story)I know i dont suck,but man im giving up for lack of any actual options that arent me buying gear and immediately wasting said gear...(i cant do boats,my ears are jacked up and i cant balance on a deck)

Same problem all over. Loss of habitat. Yeah pressure affects it some but if the lake had enough habitat(mainly grass like hydrilla) it would be fine.

Wildlife and fisheries need to lower the limits on our saltwater fish like now , it should have been done a long time ago , especially on our speckle trout , now we do not have trout like we had , and now our redfish will get scarce next cause the guides are targeting them plus the bow fisherman at night shinning them to shoot them while they are sleeping

One thing that can be done is to contact your State Representatives, get together a coalition of Boaters and Fishermen and invite these Reps. To
meet with you all and discuss all the problems that the lake is facing. Invite the Wildlife and Fisheries Dept., put out public announcements inviting
voters and other Public Officials to the meetings and let the hammer down as to how fed up the Sportsmen and women are with the lack of Penalties being
issued out to the COMPANIES polluting the water and surrounding areas with their dumping of WASTE!!!!! When it comes time for election of public
officials, make this an important part of what is expected of whomever is elected and stick to your guns!!! If they don’t perform, elect someone else the

I live in the north east and our fishery departments mostly focus on trout. They maintain world class trout fishing in small streams that get intense fishing pressure that are barely capable of sustaining any trout population. They do it with stocking. Most Fishery Departments in the north east do not stock bass at all. Seems to me that the economic impact of tournaments on a lake like Grand would benefit from supplemental stocking. Not that I’m in favor of loading up a stream with the size and number of trout that it could not possibly support in a natural state.
My area suck highly, esp from shore. If you have aboat and you complain, you need to take up knitting. I like the truly difficult fishing places. That's how you know you are elite. That's where the true competition is. That's how me and my crew roll.

this is happening all over the country I live in northeast Ohio when I started fishing bass tournaments in 1981 there was a 2 or 3 a month now its every weekend Saturdays and Sundays some weekends2 tournaments a day evening tournaments 3 nights a week when will enough be enough

Does it not seem hypocritical to bitch about too many tournaments on a lake, while fishing a tournament on that lake? The BASS Open is ok, but all those other tournaments are the problem.

This is one advantage to the Pacific Northwest. Trout and Salmon are so huge here that us bass fisherman don’t have to deal with heavily pressured bass fishing. Sure they are harder to find here, as our states don’t stock bass, but when you find them they are amazing and on any given day you might be the only one at any given lake, fishing bass.
Depends where you fish. Lake Washington is pretty heavily pressured year round, bites can be tough at times.

I am over by Boomer lake and it's over fished a big amount. I have picked up around 1000 gallons of trash along the bank the last three years I have live by Boomer Lake. I have rescued fish people have left in coolers that were still alive, and thrown dead ones into lake that have died. Last year was the worst, I think a lot of it was the homeless people that showed up in force and where over fishing the lake. Some young nerdy guy the last three years is always littering and leaving lines with hooks and bait in the lake, and trash and sometimes a cooler with a fish in it. I have even seen smaller dead fish 🐟 on the shore line of the lake. I have been Grand lake my grandmother used to live on Shangra La Island. The last time I was there was the early 1990's. The only fish I caught and gave to my grandmother to keep was one crappie that was 3-5 lbs. The rest of the fish got away or I through back into the lake. The best lakes are the private owned lakes that it takes knowing the owner and being able with permission to fish on.
All the clubs/organizations want to come at the best time. If you have a lottery and my group gets a poor draw, maybe we won’t come. It will be challenging to decrease the amount of tournaments unless the fishing is really poor.
It's all about the MONEY!! Difficult to change unfortunately !!

Too much of an emphasis on tournament fishing for too many years. From pro circuits, college, high school, and local clubs. Tackle is the best we’ve had but at the same time I’m convinced 80% of bass fishermen spend way too much money because they’re trying to be the next KVD.
And this goes back to the crooked politicians

The lake was lowered because of the massive flooding problem North of the Dam. It was dropped 4 feet to keep the flooding in control. That was never that low until the early 90's. When federal regulations were enforced. It has remained lower since. Grove Chamber is the money hungry community. It cares less concerning the habitat. It wants more and more California people that are selling homes that a squatter would not live in, for 5-6 hundred thousand in California. That include bars on the window. Buying lake homes in Grove for half the cost. So it is developed, develop more, sale, sale, sale. The lake second. For the chamber to cut tournaments would take money away from their vague downtown area. So, one day when the tournaments see what you are seeing, move onto better lake habitat. Leave Grand. Only then will the attention turn to habitat and saving the once beautiful lake. Grove and the lake will dwindle more and more. They want it to be a recreational lake, and fish and habitat second.
Poor dam/lake management is another serious problem. GRDA only cares about what the rich homeowners with lakefront property think. The blue/green algae is a wretched problem.
Tournaments are why I took up kayak angling, and almost exclusively fish lakes that don't allow gas motors or strictly limit their horsepower. The number of bass tournaments has gotten out of control.

Another thing that should be illegal is now hunting redfish , you should no way be allowed to bow hunt and shine for a redfish

I live in Marion County Florida the lakes on this area are fading quickly
Not sure why someone can’t figure out that lakes have to be replenished with all types of Frye to help these lakes keep up with the added anglers

Tournament weights are right up there for most lakes historically. Sure it might be tougher to get bites, but most of these bass are getting released and populations are fine in most areas.

You're defeating yourself before you even get to the lake. This lake sucks that lake sucks too much fishing pressure. It rubbed off on me because I fished a tournament on lake Cherokee out here in Tennessee. And there was a 250 boat high School Bass tournament there and I literally talked myself out of winning. And made all the same excuses that you're making.

High school and college tournaments, seriously unbelievable. Need to eliminate them, way to many tournaments. Weekend guys can't stand and most guys who don't tournament fish which is most fisherman don't like them either and you can't blame them as tournament guys think they are entitled just go to a ramp and watch them.

Grand isn't a young lady on that chain of lakes. That's the biggest problem.

Unfortunately, the decline applies to all fisheries. San Francisco Bay pollution since the Gold Rush, water mismanagement, years of drought, climate change, etc. Fresh seafood = farmed salmon. Money and politics.
Grand has more 3 to 5 lb bass than majority of Lakes in the country. There just educated and hard to catch. Just get livescope Randy, lol, you can see all kinds of fish you can't catch.

@@lilbaby6689 Sure they could just get another job, but it goes way further than that. Anglers are spending money on hotel rooms, food, gas, etc. A lot of establishments make money off a tournament's. Again, if cities didn't value the income from tournaments, they would ban tournaments.
