I was just 5 yrs old when my mom, Vera, was on this show. I can't remember at that age if I actually watched it. It was so wonderful to see this clip! Many thanks for sharing this!
@@decline2state She did not smoke. But Yul was a smoker and died @ 65 from lung cancer. And, of course, that PSA “Just don’t smoke!” Did they use the Magnificent 7 theme for the Winston commercial? (Have to see if I can find it on youtube.) I can’t recall.
These old shows really give me a warm feeling. I always smile a lot. It's not just that they were running when I was a young boy (although that may be part of it) but just the personalities - I'm surprised at how genuine they so often appear to be.
And Yul Brynner's sister got a carton, too. Yul later died of lung cancer and before his death warned people not to smoke. The American Cancer Society turned that film clip into a powerful ad after his death. ruclips.net/video/JNjunlWUJJI/видео.html
I don’t think there was much known about the connection between smoking and health problems at that time. Most or all of the medical doctors at our clinic had packs of cigarettes in their shirt pockets. They quit when it became obvious that smoking could cause health problems.
@@zoowriter4654 yes I remember learning about doctors actually telling pregnant women to take up smoking to curb food cravings, I was just remarking on how different things are now. Same thing with the radium girls.
Growing up, smoking from age 12, watching my heavy smoking 59 year old grandmother die of lung cancer, the controversy was always “is there actual proof smoking causes cancer”… Later it was revealed that the tobacco industry had deliberately hidden the damaging truth from the public in the interests of sales and profits.
They really were....but then the whole family danced for a living ! Rita's parents were professional dancers and she even became her dad's dancing partner when she became a teenager.
How did they not get it from "pasta fagioli is the correct pronunciation of pasta fazool"? If it weren't for "That's Amore", most Americans wouldn't have known what pasta fazool was! :D
Very fun episode. Worth mentioning how excellent the orchestra is in accompanying some of the guests. Live TV is challenging, but these musicians were the best in the NY area; so they could deliver. Superb!
Betsy Palmer is known as Jason Voorhees’ mother in Friday the 13th movies and was the last survivor of the original I’ve Got a Secret panel (died 2015) Also, Judy Lewis was Loretta Young’s and Clark Gable’s daughter and you can see the resemblance of both!
I saw Yul Brynner on stage doing the play "King and I". WoW what a performance !!! He passed not to long after from cancer. He made a don't smoke commerical that ran for only a year after his death. He was my most fav of all actors. He was such a kind man.
He was obnoxious and a creep. I worked at a dinner theater and he did The King and I. His dressing room was re-done every single week because he wanted everything to be in brown, from tan to dark brown, including the walls and bathroom towels. So obnoxious.
qtpysusie54 Same with Erik Preminger, Otto Preminger’s son by Gypsy Rose Lee. When he was on To tel, the truth, he was asked how many kids he had. If I’d been on I would’ve said “I think you ought to reconsider that answer.”
i remember when Yul Brynner played Jean Lafitte in a movie. i was about 11 and i saved a magazine picture of him labelled - Yul Brynner with Hair. LOL. he was gorgeous. oh, and, of course, a very good actor! 😊
Made me think of my parents and what they were most likely watching when they were these actor and actresses age and sitting around watching “I’ve Got A Secret”! I think I was born too late. I love watching the movies and performers of that era.
You're very welcome. One of the reasons that I like to post things of this vintage is that once in a while family members of participants find them and enjoy them. So I guess this means that Yul Brynner was your uncle?
In the mid 60s, on I've Got a Secret, she had the secret!! She was going to have her beautiful, long hair cut very short because she would be appearing in the touring company of, " South Pacific". My date and I saw it in Miami at the Coconut Grove Playhouse!! It was really great🌴🌴🌴
It’s good you made her get up and come to the show and get a good laugh, getting up moving around is the best thing you can do for your heart and lungs.
Big Kitty How much pleasure did the people who had second hand smoke blown in their face have. How much pleasure did his family and friends have at the slow painful death of their loved ones.

Judy Lewis' biological father was Clark Gable, which she did not find out about until 1958 (the same years as this episode.) This was not made public until 1966, when her mother (Loretta Young) finally admitted to it when confronted by Lewis.
Wow, Jody McCrea was really dishy. It's so striking that since this was made he lived half a century and has already died. The beginnings of the television age are getting so long ago now.
Barbara Green was definitely a gorgeous young woman. She was the daughter of Betty Furness. Barbara married a man named Denton Snyder who was a professor of theater at Smith's College. Her daughter became an actress, Liza Snyder

Dean Martin mother so beautiful and like any mother made sure she called out her son for not visiting her😂😂😂😂😂Momma I do the same lol❤❤❤
Times were so different in those days. So polite, well spoken, with poise and elegance.... how we have lost those attributes in today's age 😥
Perhaps but much is still around.
Could not do this today. Too calm. Loved this show early on.
These old shows are so entertaining. They show you how much society has progressed in many ways and digressed in other ways.
Mostly digressed
Not digressed, regressed.
To think that a carton of Winston's was a prize really shows how things have changed
Perfect gift for someone with Pleurisy!!
I spit out my drink when he said here is your cash prize and two cartons of Winston. Classic!!!
Especially since Dean Martin’s mom had pleurisy!
And he said he was 43, I thought he was much older.
I did the same!!!
Loved Dino's mom...reminds me of the ladies in my neighborhood when I was a kid, what a neat lady!

Dean Martin loved his mom so much. He died on the same date as her. Christmas Eve. Different years.
