My pick is Times Like These by Foo Fighters. It sounds crunchy as all hell during the louder sections.
i guess this kindof competes with the new Schiit Magni Unity with the built in dac, where the unity has a bit more power and having the choice of being an all in one, the Atom has the added benefit of basically a built in 4.4 to SE adaptor plus engravable, clutch . This hobby is getting really accessible
Just picked up a Magni Unity and am very happy with it. Picked it over the Atom 2 and some other alternatives for the simplicity of the design ethos. Happens to sound great too

4:13 For me it was the extended mix of FETH's God Shattering Star by Helping Hand on youtube, back when i was using my humble CX30s the chorus just gives me goosebumps everytime as if whoever mixed it used the same earbuds i did, no other transducer matches what i heard to this day.

@@ZReviews same i use ifi dac and amp combo since the first vid about them and i use them for my dt 1990 pro's so long the dac/amp dont break on me im not switching xd. btw mind me asking a question what bit and hz quality settings should i use basicly i've been running 32 bit/48000hz or should i up it to idk 32/192+hz, it probs dont mather much but intresting to know i do lissen to music here and there but mostly gaming. ps: awasome vid

@chethammer the zen dacs great but honestly theres better combos forbthe money especially in dongles, my hiby fc6 crushes my zen dac especially when paired with a good hybrid. The zen dacs just not very resolving or lively by comparison

The first atom was staggeringly clean and powerful for the money, my main complaint was with the housing feeling and sounding like a biscuit tin liner. I'm glad to see them reclaim the entry segment again, will be interesting to see their UK pricing and availability.

I'm looking to replace my Sound Blaster E5 because it doesn't like to work anymore (battery doesn't hold a charge, and then it doesn't seem to want to work half the time anyway anymore). So I was looking to get both the Atom 2 stack to replace it for my PC and video games consoles, it's looking pretty good to me.
I feel like a lot of indie rock songs are bops but lack in recording quality. Sometimes it's an intentional grungy sound which is fine but other times it falls short. (Example: Blac Rabbit - All Good)

Started with my onboard motherboard audio (asus b550f gaming's alc1220A realtek) with dt990 pros. also tried the dt880s as well with that and wasnt pleased. also tried the akg k371's and the hd600s with that but this time i still have both of them to actually try with this stack combo instead of just the onboard audio and i love them both but i think im going to refund the k371 just because the difference is night and day with this stack. very pleased with my first stack and dont see a reason to ever upgrade.
Would it make sense to upgrade from an first gen 2019 Atom amp? 🤔

Zen Stack isn't good value for money atm. Schiit Magni Unity, Fiio K11, Topping DX3 Pro + Bluetooth, JDS Atom stack are all better options right now
@@Deleteyourself83 --- the keyword here is, "splurged" but I didn't pay anywhere near full price. I like iFi for the better build and component quality. Plus, I prefer the Burr-Brown sound . Nothing is a good value if you don't use it 😉
Would the topping l50/E50 be a better choice for 100$ more?
High gain also affects preamp on my A70 Pro which wasn't a good thing once on my main speakers.

I got a 4.4mm cable for that reason that I can have both headphones and speakers at the same time for studio purpose so that gives me options. ( not as good as a switch but well it's a good price).
I was looking at this amp and the topping a50s. I wanna feed the signal out of my Motu m2 because the dac is pretty good and I want to hear the monitoring for my xlr mic. I’ve been thinking honestly to go all the way to the topping L70 for the fully balanced outputs and pre outs that don’t need the headphones to be unplugged. Are there any other worthwhile options between the atom 2 and the topping l70? I was looking at some Aune stuff and Schiit, but nothing really catches my eye. For headphones I’m using hd660s, hd800s, modded m40x and thinking about grabbing the mm100 or maybe the grado hemps. What’s the consensus fellas?

I love those World's Best cables. I kinda got the same one's but I opted for the shiny black chrome ends. I can't say I disagree with their name yet.

I'm getting some Senn 800S, would you recommend the atom 2 or element 3? I like the form factor of the element, but element 4 doesn't exist yet :P
The main difference between the Atom 2 and the Atom+ is that the Atom 2 has more power for low impedance headphones. Their power is nearly the same at 150 ohms and up, but at 32 ohms the Atom 2 is 2.65 watts compared to 1 watt for the Atom+. The Atom 2 is also a little cleaner.

I'm so torn between an Atom 2 stack or the Magni Unity to use with my 6XX. Any suggestions or would it basically be a negligible difference between the two sound wise?
Please do research on key components like the voltage, build dimension, ( do you want a stack on one unit) aesthetics, availability of shipping and lastly the sound.
Jds is very smooth and neutral. schitt i think is a bit warmer. i can say the atom 2 stack is well worth it with amazing customer support. Up to you.

I already own the SMSL SU-1, but it's busy tied to my living room stereo. What I need/want is a third Wiim Mini for my kitchen counter slash bar for a stack sort of like this so I can listen to my Katos standing like a man should while drinking his IPA beer at a bar.
But I think instead of the Atom dac I want some kind of cool upgrade dac, like a Geshelli with a wood case, and then use the SU-1 with this Atom 2 Amp thing.
By the time I make up my mind I'll have enough saved up for an endgame amp so who knows.
As someone who has three JDS Labs products, when it comes to companies that give a shit, JDS Labs wins.

TL;DR - Yes.
Longer answer:
Judging by specs of the Atom Amp 2 - max voltage with no clipping is 9.28V (max power 143mW) when connected to 600Ohm headphones (which is max SPL of 117.5dB). Beyerdynamic states the max power rating of 0.1W (100mW) and max voltage of 7.75V for the DT 880 600Ohm driver (which is max SPL of 116dB). Anything above that is damaging the driver (not to mention that your hearing will be damaged if you listen to music at that level for a while). So when you take all of this into account the Atom Amp 2 should be able to power the DT 880 600Ohm with no issues (most probably in high gain though depending on your listening level).
Alternatives that are cheap and should be able to run the DT 880 600Ohm are Topping L30II or Topping L50 (they can do 13.8V (about 317mW) in 600Ohm). The only difference being that the L50 clips at 13.8V and L30II doesn't however you shouldn't be even listenting at those levels.
Keep in mind that I am talking about maximum values that the manufacturer specified. Some people claim to run the DT880 600 to their best you need a source with high output impedance, some say you need a speaker amp (because of higher voltage and power output) but strictly theoretically speaking to what the manufacturer specified all of the devices I listed should not have issues.
Even though there is no scientific evidence that a high output impedance would impact the sound of these specific headphones (check diyaudioheaven for more details), you could increase the output impeadance of these amps (in a similar fashion as with the Truthear x Crinacle Zero: RED's 10Ohm impedance adapter). With an impedance adapter of let's say 120Ohm all of these devices are still able to run the DT880 600Ohm at their maximum rated level.
I'm currently using the schitt audio dac of the jotunheim. Is this dac much better?
Hard to say without A/B in person. I don't think you are going to gain much at this level. You are fine.

You should review the Schiit Syn, since you have a lot more home theater setup in your bag than most Hifi gear reviewers. Also, ‘The way you used to do’ by queens of the Stone Age sounds fucking awesome on my “audiophile🧐” setup. ‘Go with the flow’ is indeed a terrible recording though…

Most non-commercial metal is either recorded pretty poorly to just okay (sometimes intentionally, sometimes not, depending on the genre).
Same goes for most commercial metal frankly. It may be recorded properly but most albums get brickwalled in mastering

do these get too hot to touch? I've heard that, either Atom + amp or Atom + dac, get pretty hot to touch because they were incased in plastic. hopefully, JDS Labs solve that issue by using a aluminum chassis.

I'm more of a Schiit fan, I had JDS in the past and it was so buggy (randomly would turn off) that I gave up and went to Schiit.
The Pursuit of Happiness - great songs, terrible recording. Long time ago I got the 128mb mp3s and always thought, damn this sounds terrible, need to get the CD. So they put out a remastered CD that I bot, ripped it to flac - and it still sounds the same.
