I bought the Discovery 8 because of all the hype on whiskey tube. $140 I expected to be totally blown away. Admittedly very good whiskey just not worth the price for me. I haven’t bought another since. Great review.
I love the bourye 8 but the 12 is better roughy same price
Blinded 12 with 11, WT 12yr, and RR15. It’s pretty similar to WT12, but much more balanced and has that Heaven Hill influence that rounds out the Turkey edges. I think a good ECBP + WT12 blend could be a good comp.
I don’t have any WT12 I remember reviewing it and really liking it but my dang KC12 beat it so I didn’t feel the need to hunt the WT12 although if it was readily available I’d buy one

Discovery 11 was my favorite until Discovery 12 came out. 1/2 at WT 14 Years? Definitely picking up a backup of this one. 🥃
Yeah it’s very good I think the best disco yet with the exception of maybe 4. It’s funny it’s half wild turkey 14yr and it’s still $110 less than RR15 msrp lol

I have two kingships now king of comparisons and king of sagamore ryes
I’ll be looking out for this one, but Disco 11, 10, 9, & 8 are all still sitting on shelves in my area. I got 11, 10 & 8, nitpicking aside, all were great.
Yeah those three were good to me it would be 12, 8, 11, 10 that’s my order
When it comes to comparing alternatives and prices, it really is relative to where you're located. In my market, I can definitely get Disco 12 for msrp, and while I could go to several different stores right now and pick up JD12 and Bomberger's, they'll both cost over msrp, the JD12 waaay over, and when it comes to Bomberger's, let's just say I'm wary of dropping over a hundo on any bottle without an age statement.
Yeah I get it on the bombergers but it’s always good year after year
Got 1 disco 11, loved it so I grabbed a back up and came upon a few more (right next to disco 10, passed) a so I grabbed a back up for the back up. $129 around me. I'm going to do same for disco 12, try to get 2, even just finding one I'll be happy!
Yeah from memory this is superior to 11. I liked 11 but 12 is it for me from them so far. Hope you can find one!
The Discovery series is not my profile so, fortunately, I don't have to be concerned with the price on this one. Just passed up cases of Discovery 8, 9, and 11 on Clearance for $65 a piece, no limits.

Haha only the greats know how special 8 was. And I haven’t dug into it but first sip it’s pretty good it’s 15yr Canadian finished in cognac
Oh man you're killing me Bourbon Bill! Now I want a Disco 12! I really enjoy the 11. I LOVE JD12.
Just blew my budget on a freakin Old Rip VW 10 and a Hardin's Creek 211 (thanks to you) which I haven't cracked either yet. I certainly don't need anything else but man if Disco 12 is much better than 11 I may have to pounce.

Haha I got a couch. And the Hardins Creek Jacob’s Well batch 2 is phenomenal easily the best of all those bottles mentioned
Looking forward to picking up a disco 12, but none in stores near me yet. That plus I just picked up a FWGS Four Roses OESO pick tier 3, 56%, 8 years 10 months.
Did you pick up any of the FWGS 4R picks? They hit the east side of the state this week.

@bourbonbill I saw a 10 year 8 mo OBSV pick, but I'm not a big fan of the shelf OBSV single barrel. Had to pass on it and glad I did. The OESO doesn't have as much age to it, but I think I'll like the profile better.
Really enjoy Disco 12, I’ve seen multiple bottles in the wild. JD12 is very hard to come by, even more so at MSRP, in my area (have never seen one). Love your reviews.
Thanks and yeah sometimes availability is wonky. Pa will have and release JD12 but won’t get the Disco

I was fortunate to get the JD 12 Batch 2 for $120 when it was initially released, now you can't find it for less than $200...

They obviously secretly have added Black Velvet into this blend. There’s no other way it could be this good.
Haha there he is my man Black Velvet himself you never know what they are sneaking into the blends these days. I hope black velvet wins the ascot awards next year then they can clean off that dusty bottom shelf

Hmm that would be interesting I’m still looking for a bottle of RR15. I’ve had samples but didn’t do them back to back
Got really lucky to snag one in MI. Store owner said our whole state only got around 35 cases so definitely a small batch

In Virginia Disco 12 MSPR is $140. And for that price I think it's right on the money. Like you mentioned other comparable bottles go for the same price on secondary because you can't find them either!
Haha exactly. I think it’s geography dependent on what you can get and this is a great disco bottle but so are a lot of the other similar aged items
Great review. By the way most everything is sold out on the Discovery 12. You cannot even find it online for $200 or $250. It's possible that more will come on the market later.
That’s interesting they said it was a smaller release than the 11 but no other info so not sure on how available this will be
Great review! I agree that it is the best disco since 4. I still have a sealed bottle of 4 so I need to blind them but what I remember is 4 being a darker oakier profile. Fortunately for me I was able to snag my bottles of 12 for $129.99. My state has run out and cannot order more so I got lucky

That rumor is true i was at the distillery last week, and the staff said there isn't going to be much of the 12 compared to the 11 so grab it while you can !!!

@bourbonbill the 120 was 1 per customer. Gone the next day. 140 is at a big box statewide chain. They had 3 left after I bought one.
120 for a new release in high demand and short supply? I wonder why they are taking a hit like that.

MSRP at the distillery is 140 and I got mine for 135 at a store near me

@bourbonbill yeah I do see it at 150 at some places but that's the highest! Still a bit high but really good stuff! I blinded 11 and 12. They are a lot more similar than I though in my head
140 srp is correct. But once you factor in tax and/or shipping, it's hard to get for under 150.
