UPDATE: somehow, between me making this list a few days ago and uploading this video, TWO movies I mentioned vanished from US Netflix without warning. The two movies are "Mr. Nobody" (which you can still watch for free on Tubi) and "Mustang" (which is still available on Kanopy and The Criterion Channel). They might show back up on Netflix, so keep checking, since they were JUST there and didn't seem like they were about to expire. But do explore their sci-fi and international films sections, if you run out of options - they have a LOT to offer!
Tubi itself is pretty great. Cause one of my favorite shows (Blackstone) is on there, it is also available on Amazon Prime but i can recommend for people to watch it on Tubi if they don't have/can't afford Amazon Prime cause it is for free.
A bunch of movies mentioned in this video: 1. Freaks 2. Mr Nobody 3. The One I Love 4. Creep/Creep 2 5. Into the Forest 6. Swiss Army Man 7. Forgotten 8. The gift/ 9. Green Room 10. Blue Ruin 11. The Invisible Guest 12. Slow West 13. Krisha 14. Moon 15. Mustang 16. Enemy
The making of the film is also a terrific story, and does indeed add to the film, specially if watching before a later repeated watch of Moon. Robot's storyline becomes a brilliant arc in my opinion.
I just finished Forgotten based on your list from her favorites and Wow!! What an intense film. I am dying to have my husband watch it now, I know he'll get a kick out of it. Thanks for posting your top five, that helped me narrow things down.
Forgotten's basic theme is very interesting, original and it has a strong human element to it , but there are plot holes galore in the movie. So it will leave you with mixed feelings. The novelty and suspense and tragic elements will be appreciated but glaring plot holes will cast a shadow on the quality of the movie.
This is now my go to page for recommendations. Smart analysis and perfect sense of style. Great taste. Beautiful presentation. Genuinely worth watching
Slow West is indeed a good film. I had the same experience as you...I couldn't figure out exactly why I liked it so much. However, I think a lot of it has to do with the direction. It is indeed a bit whimsical, and a unique take on the Western genre. Not to be missed!
Okay Marianna you got me. I've only seen two of these films. So as not to embarrass myself I won't say which two. I'm not even going to try to riposte with 'but have you seen..." I'll just say thanks!
New on Netflix: "Mire." Brilliant filmmaking, fantastic murder mystery in 1980's Communist Poland. Every bit of it is exquisitely created and leads you on right out of the gate. "The Good Bandit" - a hilarious, adorable, spiritually and comically uplifting series with brilliant comic actors. My actual favorite of all films on Netflix, and I have loved many. Thank you for all your recommendations. Can't wait to see many of them. Martha Woodworth, The Psychic Is In
Thanks for your recommendations. I just saw Enemy and The Invisible Guest. Whoa, The Invisible Guest blew me away...I kinda had an idea of what was happening but still couldn't have guessed the ending! It's that good! Placing it, and I'm not saying it lightly, almost UP THERE, with Memento.... Now, Enemy on the other hand was also really good. I just couldn't take the, I won't spoil it, but you know what it is...because I have this HUGE phobia...no pun intended :)
I am so glad there is another human being who appreciates "The Gift". Joel Edgerton kept me guessing as to what he had in mind and Jason Bateman plays an unsympathetic character so well
I just found you this first week of quarantine. I watched a few of your recommendations, and they were so good. Keep this format going because we all need good movies to watch. I watched Into the Woods, Forgotten, and The One I Love. I would like you to give maybe a little bit more info on the rating. I looked on the parents guide and that's how I choose. I know most of your recommendations are rated R, but hey what about our teens? They are sick of watching the run of the mill stuff on the front page of Netflix.
Thanks for your recommendations! I am so glad I found your channel. Over the last 3 days, I have watched: 1) The One I Love 2) Forgotten 3) Green Room 4) The Invisible Guest 5) Krisha It's been a wild ride! My favorite has been The Invisible Guest! I plan on watching Freaks and Moon next. Hope you do more of these for other streaming services!
I'm reading "It" and finding it very hard to get through. I watched the movies already, so I know what happens. It has been really tedious waiting page after page for something to happen. Right now I'm in the middle of a chapter that is just a bunch of newspaper articles. Do you find King's writing too descriptive? Does it ever pick up pace? Have you ever thought about doing some type of RUclips book club, where you would read x amount of pages in a week then discuss them?
I’ve already seen most of these, but there were 3 that I hadn’t heard of and was able to add to my list, so thank you! I would also recommend the miniseries Criminal on Netflix to anyone who hasn’t seen it. There are 3 episodes in English, and the others are from other countries.
Everyone should watch The One I Love, it's such a great underrated indie gem. Glad to see it's still getting recommendations, it also stars the great Ted Danson.
I'd totally suggest the Spanish film "The Platform". One of the most original and terrifying films I've seen, and it's not even a 'traditional' horror film. Skip the trailer and synopsis, just go in blind ;)
Wendy Lu “the Platform” stayed with me for days after I watched it. Great movie. It reminded me of “the Circle”, “The Belko Experiment” and “Would you Rather?”. Definitely highly recommend them all. They say so much about human nature.
I just discovered your channel. I input many RUclips critics. J Campea, R Burnett, G Randolph (Beyond The Trailer), Charlie (Emergency Awesome) D Van Damme (Flick Connection). Everyone’s opinion is valid. There are no wrong answers. LoL I listen to many reviews but watch fewer movies than I once did. I got sidetracked while collecting and viewing Criterion Collection films. I became a good enough shopper that I’m able to buy and resell while making a ‘dollar fiddy.’ I now cruise everything from little book stores to world-wide Amazons pursuing Limited Edition Out-Of-Print blu-rays. Anyway, I look forward to your voice on films. I may view less than I once did but I stay Up-To-Date while shopping on the iPad. I think the business of film from theaters to streaming sites is fascinating. It keeps my interest anyway. And keeps me Out-Of-Trouble. Thanks.
@@ImpressionBlend definitely! There's another great Spanish film (IMO at least) called Timecrimes/Rewind/Los Cronocrímenes. I think you would at least find it interesting. Greetings from Honduras btw.
now this seems to be a good list and well presented as well. Not in the overtly dramatic or loud way but in neat crisp way explaining the basic details of the movie so to create curiosity among the viewers.
Watched Mr. Nobody last night was not enamored . When anything important was supposed to be said the music was loud and ill placed. They tried hard to add way too much context that even an almost 3 hour movie left it just a hot mess of convolution. Could have done much more with much simpler filming if they were adept at story telling. Instead I feel it's main goal was " if we add enough random things everyone will be too embarrassed to admit they were not smart enough to get it". I'm not vain I am not smart enough to get the movie. Though I'm a firm believer in the concept because of my belief in other dimensions existing within ours and etc.... Still thanks! I loved that I had a chance to watch, and it opened up a great dialogue with my spouse and I! After so much time together we needed to have something else to dissect. I'm excited to delve into your other suggestions! Your a gem for doing this video! Thanks so much🥰
This is my first time watching a video of yours, and I'm so glad you mentioned Mr. Nobody! I watched it a few years ago, and still think about it from time to time. It is definitely an ambitious sci-fi film, and not for everybody, but I loved it and wish it would be talked about more. Great video!
I dont know if it is on Netflix but THUNDER ROAD is one of the best movies from last decade barely anybody got to witness. It is close to a masterpiece
Finished freaks, I would say it was a phenomenal movie. And I’m actually ok if they never make a sequel or prequel. As if they did it would try to hard to come up with an origin, and the story would have the cliche tropes. The other part is, we don’t need to have Every movie/story part of some grand cinematic universe ala marvel. Sometimes the best stories are standalone ones that leave its fans free to speculate about all the details addressed and what would happen to the characters. Do we know what triggered people to get powers? Not exactly, do we know what they’re going to do? Nope. And that’s perfectly fine, part of a mystery sci-if thriller isn’t knowing everything, if we did. It would lose the focus of what the director and writers were going for. I would want the writers directors and actors to have the same level of focus and skill in their future movies
OMG...The Gift! I can honestly say I haven't seen a twist like that since The Six Sense. Started out slow but it was worth the wait! I am subscribing to your channel for more movie reviews!
Thank you for this... I'm running out of things to watch on Netflix. I've been looking something new (or not so new) to watch and recommend. I have all of these in my queue keep em coming... I think we'll be home even longer than the end of the month.
So far I'm halfway through your list and I haven't found one that I haven't enjoyed yet. I was skeptical when I saw this video, but it's not like I have much else to do these days, so I thought I'd give one of these films a shot. I started with The one I love which I really enjoyed and moved on from there picking and choosing a new film each day. Now they are something I look forward to every day. Thank you! I will definitely keep watching and when you suggest a film I know it'll be worth my time and that I'll enjoy it immensely.
Thanks for the recs. I would suggest A Simple Favor with Blake Liveley and Anna Kendricks and Fierce People (on Amazon Prime) with Kristen Stewart and Donald Sutherland. Both are wild rides.
Jojo Rabbit (2019) and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) - must to watch movies, netflix or not. if you are into korean movies, Burning (2018) is great - this movie would definitely put you under its' spell.
For the non film fans who have never seen Jared Leto in anything besides Suicide Squad and think he sucks they really should check out Mr. Nobody. He shows so much range in that film. Was a little disappointed by Into The Forest but Ellen Page was very good in it from what I remember and Evan Rachel Wood never disappoints. Her career culminating to date with Westworld proves how she is one or two movies away from an Oscar. One of many in fact.
Thank you for this list! Only 2 are available in Indo, but it’s still better than going through the same recommendations listed by Netflix over and over.
Thank you for Mustang. I've been pushing it on everyone since I saw it on its release. Such a beautiful film with amazing performances. There might be an aspect of the story that's a little too timely, at least out here in California, but the movie does have a great deal of hope.
But that's different if you do it because you have social anxiety. Purposely social distancing is actually very rare. Very few people actually want to be alone ahaha
Ok, I'm going to sink in to some of these at your suggestion. I'm hoping when you say that they may "have some issues," that the issues don't outweigh the moments that lead to a great overall viewing experience. Thx for your reviews.
You are awesome with these recommendations as the ones I have seen, I have loved it. I am really glad you mentioned Forgotten! I saw it awhile ago and was blown away! Have to rewatch it again!
Thank you for the recommendations. I wrote down few of them. I need to see if they are available on My Netflix. I like to add my voice to "The invisible guest" and for anyone who liked it I would recommend a book called "The Poisoned Chocolates Case" by Anthony Berkeley. "Moon" is an EXCELLENT movie and a proof that you don't need big budget to make outstanding movies. Request: Following on from "Moon". Can you recommend please, time permitting, great low budget movies? (I think lots were already on this list, but in case you have more). My 2 cents: If you like poetry: "Paterson" . If you like movies in one setting: A spanish movie "7 anos" (7 years).
Thank you for Mr Nobody - everyone needs to watch it and question every single choice they ever made. Then they need to watch Dark and question their whole existence. I love existential movies and tv shows.
Always seem to forgot the name of your channel. Last week I was wondering what kind of recs you'd have right now. Thankfully youtube listed this in my feed tonight. So I decided it's a good of time as any to finally subscribe.
I’ve seen Forgotten Marianna. You can talk to me about it. 😄 This was a great surprising mystery thriller. But it’s a Korean film so if anyone know how to make a good mystery thriller it’s them.
Terrific selection! I own all of these on DVD/Blu-ray, except for Krisha and The Invisible Guest. I will watch them this weekend. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@ImpressionBlend Have you seen director Jeremy Saulnier's first film, Murder Party? Much different than his other three films, due to it being a comedy, but I think it's a lot of fun.
Thanks for the recommendations. Need 'em for the quarantine. Slow West is indeed a terrific movie. The only one I've seen. Looking forward to seeing the rest.
Thanks for the list. My general list of movies I've seen lately that are pretty good: New Irish movie called "Sea Fever" about infectious eggs/larvae on a boat and having to quarantine before going back onto land. '"Never Rarely Sometimes Always" (teenage abortion process), "Proxima" with Matt Dillion was pretty good. "Blood On Her Name" is an awesome low budget thriller. The "Rest of Us" is another great drama. "Waves" was pretty good. "Deep Waters" about the DuPont poisoning of people with Teflon was really good. "The Hidden Face" 2011 saw recently very spooking Spanish thriller. "Light of My Life" pandemic movie pretty good. "I Am Mother" sci-fi robot thriller was good. "Destroyer" Nicole Kidman and "Hello Destroyer" were really good. So far out of the ones I have seen on the above Netflix list, only Mr. Nobody was not resonating with me so I stopped at one hour for now (reminded me of Sliding Doors and What the Bleep Do We Know? (choices and questioning of what is). Watched "Vivarium" and couldn't stand it (kept waiting for it to get better).
The One I Love is fantastic, I love anything Mark Duplass is involved in which is why I checked it out but it’s sooo good. Also, Joel Edgerton’s 2nd feature Boy Erased is fantastic

No wonder. I was looking for Mr. Nobody like crazy with different spelling and nada. LOL
Mr. Nobody is such a good movie.
A bunch of movies mentioned in this video:
1. Freaks
2. Mr Nobody
3. The One I Love
4. Creep/Creep 2
5. Into the Forest
6. Swiss Army Man
7. Forgotten
8. The gift/
9. Green Room
10. Blue Ruin
11. The Invisible Guest
12. Slow West
13. Krisha
14. Moon
15. Mustang
16. Enemy
Thanks!
Thanks
Sam Rockwell’s character in Moon is truly a self isolating hero
HA! Truth ))
The making of the film is also a terrific story, and does indeed add to the film, specially if watching before a later repeated watch of Moon. Robot's storyline becomes a brilliant arc in my opinion.
Loved MOON. Good take.
into the forest, the other actress is westworld delores ha.
Just remember: if it's dead and it wakes up, aim for the head. Have a happy and safe apocalypse everyone.
But don't assume the gut suit will work.. let someone else try it first. :)
Best coronavirus-related comment I've seen. Nice one, @VEGITAS4.
Hahaaa
Top 5 from her recommendation.
5. Into the Forest
4. The One I love
3. The Gift
2. The Invisible Guest
1. Forgotten
I just finished Forgotten based on your list from her favorites and Wow!! What an intense film. I am dying to have my husband watch it now, I know he'll get a kick out of it. Thanks for posting your top five, that helped me narrow things down.
Gift can be added to this list.

The Invisible Guest was such a great thriller. Highly recommended.

Blue Ruin is fantastic. One of my favorite films.
Really surprised people don't talk about it more!
Best looking low budget movie I've ever seen.
Blue Ruin with Eve Plumb as the matriarchal crime boss. What a surprise?
Not sure if this movie is underrated or not, but Pans Labyrinth is and absolutely amazing Spanish movie
loved it
Love that movie ❤️
I good list of recommendations, but why not give a list at the end, so no need to keep scolling back to write them down.

Forgotten and the Gift are exceptional.
Parasite is on Hulu and I finally watched. Loved that movie.

The moment you said “completely different” I knew Swiss Army Man was coming lol. Great movie that I expected not to like
Enemy is such a great film. My favorite Villenuve.

I’m not sure if Greenroom is on the list, but I recommend it! It is insane but pretty gory.
You need to check out "Brick". Neo noir flick. Hidden gem on netflix.
zzzzzz
Thank you for this list! Only 2 are available in Indo, but it’s still better than going through the same recommendations listed by Netflix over and over.
These are some quite good recommendations. Your video visual quality is absolutely amazing!
You’re awesome, Marianna! Thanks for the recommendations ☺️
You're definitely 101 times better than news! And this list🙆Not sure with which one I should start; have only seen "invisible guest".
Loved 'Moon'! 💞 it was so Twisty Turny!!!
Thanks! Just watched the invinsible guest and next is forgotten. I think those are the only ones ive got available on netflix.
Thank you for Mustang. I've been pushing it on everyone since I saw it on its release. Such a beautiful film with amazing performances. There might be an aspect of the story that's a little too timely, at least out here in California, but the movie does have a great deal of hope.
Thank you so much! I just got Netflix and just so much look forward to checking these out!
turns out my regular lifestyle is called social distancing
But that's different if you do it because you have social anxiety. Purposely social distancing is actually very rare. Very few people actually want to be alone ahaha
Mine is too, minus all the cinema trips >.
@@ImpressionBlend I find that hard to believe.
I'm an introvert, so my daily goal is to stay away from social gatherings and crowded places lol
@@ImpressionBlend You are also very beautiful, smart, intelligent, confident inspiring person...
not something I could say about myself
ok, I was not sure of your list but... Mr Nobody and Forgotten are two amazing movies so... I'm gonna watch them all!! THANKS!
WHOOAA!!! ENEMY!!!! I have to watch it again! THAAANKSS
Thanks for your list. I checked out the "Invisible Guest" and I enjoyed it. It's a fun suspenseful movie that make you think a little.
First time viewer, immediately subscribed!. Loved your comments and the quality of production 😁
Loved this list I just watched all of these except for 3 of the movies. Love your recommendations!
Thank you for Mr Nobody - everyone needs to watch it and question every single choice they ever made. Then they need to watch Dark and question their whole existence. I love existential movies and tv shows.
I LOVE Mr. Nobody!!! I'm very impressed with your taste, good job.
Damn, I'm impressed by your collection then! Glad I still had a couple of new things for you :D
@@ImpressionBlend Have you seen director Jeremy Saulnier's first film, Murder Party? Much different than his other three films, due to it being a comedy, but I think it's a lot of fun.
Awesome!!! Thank you!! Gonna have fun.. and you're right.. 'Moon' is incredible
The Gift is amazing, it looks like a totally different film than it actually is, it really stayed with me for a long time afterwards
Yes, I liked the GIFT, and thus far 08:00 the only movie she mentioned that I have seen.
Great Reminder of Jason Bateman's acting ability. Lead me to watch his series OZARK. So good!
Thanks for the recommendations. Need 'em for the quarantine. Slow West is indeed a terrific movie. The only one I've seen. Looking forward to seeing the rest.
OMG just found your channel!! Thank you so much for the list! Some great movies on here!
Paddleton is another Mark Duplass movie people should watch. Heartbreaking but wonderful.
Hi Marianna, you recommended an Evan Rachel Wood film in here and I had a sudden urge to know if you have seen Westworld on HBO?
The One I Love is fantastic, I love anything Mark Duplass is involved in which is why I checked it out but it’s sooo good. Also, Joel Edgerton’s 2nd feature Boy Erased is fantastic
