03:13 I really do hope we see Planechase become more of a staple for Magic. Its been so long since people played, I’ve seen many channels refer to this optional house rule as the actual way to play. I know back in the day we played this way because 1 person owned all the planechase cards so nobody actually designed their own planechase deck.
planechase, archenemy, conspiracy, battlebond. there are so many ideas in magic that are cooler then "here's a set designed to break modern because Hasbro's CEO's cocaine budget was looking a bit slim" drafting MH is fun, and I'm sure the LotR set will be fine, but I would prefer any of the four supplements I named over both of those.
LOVE that Planechase is returning to the spotlight! I am an avid fan of the variant. So much so, that we have reviewed a little more than half of the 86 previous Planechase planes and phenomenons over the last year on our RUclips channel (MTG Burgeoning). During these reviews, we offered insight on how to build Commander decks around the planes' static abilities. Planechase is a staple of our play-group's Commander games and we CANNOT WAIT to get our hands on those new planes. The newly designed planar dice are also VERY aesthetically pleasing. PLANECHASE IS BACK BABY!!!!!!
The fact that there can be two rares in a draft pack and there is a "mystical archive" for all the cool legends will make march of the machines prerelease a very unique experience.
Really happy to see another round PlaneChase! Hoping this isn’t just a one off, and there will be more in some way in the year, but even if this is all for now, hype to try more new Plane & Phenomena.
I know this is a video on Planechase, but I have a question on Battle. In a multiplayer game, what incentive do other players have to attack the battle? If I'm reading the current wording properly, the controller/player who cast the battle gets the back half no matter who destroys it.
@@fredouellet3160in this variant, planes are essentially set out as a board. Whenever a player planeswalks, they move onto an adjecent plane to the one they're currently on - or if that space is currently empty, draw a plane from the deck and add it. So over time, some players get an incentive to planeswalk back to older, existing parts of the map.
Planechase is a very fun way of spicing up and making more cahotic a game of commander, but I dislike playing with pre-chosen decks. It feels more fun to just embrace the chaos and put as many planes as possible and deal with it. Side note, the first time I played, we made a house rule that whenever a new plane was planeswalked to, we'd put it next to the one we were in, creating a "map" of the multiverse we could walk back and forth on as the game went. was very fun
I keep seeing the phrase "Each deck has five new planes, four reprint planes, and one phenomenon in it." Does that mean there's 25 new cards, all of which are Planes, or are some of the phenomena new too? So excited to have Planechase back!
I've been preparing my own custom planechase cards for months and having the return of the mechanic might postpone that for quite a while. I'm really looking forward to which planes will be featured and which mechanics will appear alongside them. I'll probably pick up all the new planes to add them to my planechase anthology.
I love the flavour , you guys are great. Planechase came out during my break from Magic and I only really understand them now, so thanks! My game plan doesn't enjoy chaos elements like not knowing what the future planes would be, its a bit too much like flux ;) . What do you think of the idea that planewalkers who are native to the visited plane, like Chandra to Kaladesh would get boosted while on their plane?
I have been a big fan of planeschase for years so I am over the moon to get new planes to add to the fun. That said I dont plan to collect all 5 decks so I am gonna have to work something out to get the new planes
I am SO EXCITED for these!!! Love planechase. We’ve had a decade of new places since the last time we got new cards. We needed more, and this was a perfect set to do more!
i had a game with both selesnya loft gardens which is a doubling season and kharasha foothills which gives creatures myriad absolute chaos with attacking one player creates two additional tokens attacking each other players
Hey Gavin! Is there going to be a reprinting of the planes not reprinted in the precons, so players who didn’t play back when planechase was first released will be able to collect all of the planes?
I looked into the planechase cards a year ago as a way to introduce some fun variety into my Commander sessions. I don’t quite understand how it works with them being included in these precon decks, though. Can one player with 10 cards use them on their own like when someone’s deck has Daybound or Venture, or would each of the pod need a 10 card deck to use for this gameplay inclusion? It seems like a lot of fun and I hope all will be accessible enough to collect!
I knew it existed but never knew how it actually worked. This is AWESOME. It sounds like more of a "party" mode for the game. It would be cool if MTG Arena had a variant of this.
Planar Die rolls trigger effect that look for dice rolls, right? So Krark's Other Thumb would let you roll with "Advantage" on the planar roll. I think my Space Family Goblinson deck is very much going to want to play Planechase Commander. Pay 3 mana to roll 3 Planar Dice and immediately get the trample and 3 +1/+1 counters each turn? Yes please.
MoM is cool and I'm hyped. But your guys could of made this a multi release set covering multiple planes adding new compleated characters. Per set. Doing a set/booster/collectors run per 3months The war could of been all of 2023. Ending in a 5 deck archenemy style set. 4 "hero" decks each representing a hero and plane as well as era of magic. And 1 phyrexian deck including universe beyond cards, Elesh norn is a OP glass cannon with cheap and instant speed token generation for waves of defenders while having some rediculious keyword and ability set. The idea being she is pulling everything she can to protect new phyrexia including surviving orators and is trying to destroy her most powerful surviving enemies. It can include: schemes, battles, and planechase. Missed opportunity WotC.
Please make a five colored giant commander I had an idea that I thought would be unique, so I think it should have an eminence where you can reveal a giant from your hand and gain 1 life can only activate once and only if you've casted a giant this turn. Then this is a separate ability where if you cast a giant you may return a giant from your graveyard to your hand and create a food token I'm thinking a 5/5 for 1 r, 1 g, 1 bl, 1 blu, 1 w, 1 gen, and I think it should have defender and can attack if you control 5 or more creatures... Maybe make it a wall as well but definitely gotta be a giant
What is the distribution like on the reprint planes? If I purchase a set of commander decks, will I have all of the planechase planes or are there unique ones from the first round not being reprinted?
Something I dislike from my experience playing planechase is that more than half of the planes benefit go wide creature heavy decks and nothing else. I hope this will change at some point.
My group has been playing Commander with Planechase almost exclusively for about 4-6 months before this was announced so we're pumped to get 25 new Planes. Any new Phenomenon cards?
Are each of the commander decks going to have unique new plane cards or will they share some new plane cards between them? Same for reprinted plane cards.
I’m a big fan of planechase. I hope wizards will develop an official multiplayer planechase format with a ban list that promotes fun and tactical games that don’t end in an infinite combo win.
1) You can't really use "tactical" and Planechase in the same sentence. Because they affect all players, even if you use only the ones that affect you positively, you may spend 90% of each game not even using your own planes anyway. It's all about randomness! 2) No format (not even Vintage) is so dominated by infinite combos that they end every game. Even cEDH has decks that aren't all about comboing and instead stax people out in a control way, actually dealing the killing blows with the usual control-centric combat-damage-from-a-fatty fashion. So I'm not sure why you think Planechase would solve that issue more than any other format. Hell, combos are probably more reliable than attacking in Planechase compared to any other format, because again, Planechase at its nature is random, so quickly tutoring into a win before you get wrecked by a bad roll of the dice is probably actually the best decision to win with.
Gavin, I would love to submit designs for auxiliary products such as Planechase, Archenemy, and other game modifying supplements such as Explorers of Ixalan
The real trouble with this is my personality will make me want all the planes so my life for the next little while is going to be a literal plane chase
With Planechase back, can we get another box set that reprints them all? So that everyone has access to all the planes easily :) They're like hundreds on ebay and amazon and so on iirc :(
what if only one player has a MOM deck. is it ok to use just their 10 cards? does a player have to have their own planechase cards to roll the dice every turn?
Really looking forward to trying out the mechanic. My own play group could use the added unpredictability, and may shift some of their metas. I hope you use that printer's foiling method a lot more, because like most players I hate the Potato Chip foils. But DomRe, I'm actually happy when I get those foils in a pack.
Can I buy a March of machine precon and play it against others even if they don’t have plane cards? Or can the planar decks only be used if everyone has one?
You're still rolling a die, aren't you? Same things apply, even if it's a special one. Only thing that makes a difference is the fact you can't roll up numbers on the planar die.
The planar dice triggers my OCD all of them are a mana color except the except the grey one. They need to make a red one, then I can accept the grey one as colorless mana colored and have a complete set of six. The Doctor Who ones don't count in this set.
Only experienced it once before. It was quite shocking and very fun but it also can make you realize some commanders are not suited to it all that well the majority of the time and honestly that's what makes it neat! X3 I cannot wait to see it again and also for each of these Planar Dice to be hunted like the Gatewatch will be in MoM. Gonna be some interesting games of commander! Also makes me wonder will this be a one time thing or could we see a Universes Beyond Secret Lair that gives us battlefields for all the other IPs? I personally would love some D&D ones or Cybertron for Transformers to show up now and then just for the sheer "nani!?" factor as well as framing and style points.
1) Yes. This has been confirmed. 2) "Any target" burn damage works. Dealing enough damage by any available method will cause them to transform. This has been confirmed. 3) When they 'die' (at least by damage), they transform. Bonus 4) As permanents, they can also be destroyed with things like Beast Within. This has been confirmed implicitly by the answer to #1. But it is unclear whether direct destruction (rather than dealing dealing damage) would also trigger them to transform - that part hasn't been confirmed.
so, I'm a bit confused - My understanding is that Phenomenon cards are shuffled separetly from planechase cards, and planechase should be 10 cards per player in the planechase deck, but the precon decks have 9 planechase and 1 phenomenon, so wouldn't that be impossible to do with just the precons?
so the way i understand this ... if someone brings a deck that includes planechase to commander ... kick him from the group for forcing you to make a 10card deck that will fit in 0 deck boxes
They aren't. Magic pays above the TCG industry average. This is well-known. Whether the industry average should be higher and whether WotC should pay even more is a different debate (and one I absolutely think should be taking place). But your own point that they are being paid below the industry standard is simply verifiably false, so is a leading question based around a total falsehood, which isn't the way to start said debate in a meaningful fashion.

I would kill for a Nyx playmat. That art is just insane.
Same
Also really hoping for a Zurgo and Ojutai playmat
I think there is a way to submit to the artist for that
Who?
This would be an awesome rule set for a story mode for arena
I've missed playing story since magic duel of the planeswalkers 2014. The stories were too short on magic origins but at least it had something...
Really wish we got all the new planes as separate bundle for purchase, just to supplement my planes deck from the planechase anthology.

I absolutely love planechase in commander. When we get bored of the normal format when switch it up with planechase to throw in some chaos lol.
Plane Chase in these precons is half the reason I'll be going to pick one up. I'm extremely excited for em!

In a multiplayer game, what incentive do other players have to attack the battle? If I'm reading the current wording properly, the controller/player who cast the battle gets the back half no matter who destroys it.
The wording is to enable cooperation in two-headed giant, archenemy, emperor etc. It's not designed for 1v1v1v1.
i love the "eternities map" variant of Planechase, is just awesome
What is the variant?

Glad to see it back, kinda annoying that I can't get the planechase cards seperatly from the commander decks.
Need a D&D Planechase deck for my Forgotten Realms Cube
Love Planechase! So excited to add to my planar stack.
This is so incredibly helpful...thank you Gavin
Favorite way to play. Thanks so much for bringing it back.
Thanks for this! Glad to see more planes for the mechanic.
Please talk about Eternity Map! It's my favorite way to play with the planechase cards
Don't own any planechase cards but our playgroup tried it out with an online simulator for our commander game and it was very fun
That's fun little additional mech. Interested to see how they go.

Love it that Planechase is back! :D
I would love to see new Phenomena cards alongside the new planes, so I’m hoping some are included.
We really appreciate the planechase decks and planar die put into the decks without a markup. Really nice move guys, it is apprecisted

Could be less. The new Planes could be repeated across the decks
@@androkguz Could be more. There could be extra new planes that might not always show up in a deck.

Tinker time might be the thing I’m most stoked for from this set! I live kaladesh and grimlins!
Planechase is literally perfect for MOM commander decks. I just hope we won’t have to wait another 11 years for more
EXCITED for planechase cards - just awesome!
Kinda wish all 10 cards were brand new so that my friends and I could beef up our anthology deck without duplicates.

So I'm not sure why you think Planechase would solve that issue more than any other format. ngl, I was kinda hoping for new Planechase die with different numbers of sides and different percentages to hit Planeswalk / Chaos.
This is a dream come true omg
Lore question, do the shards of alara actually still exist? Or is it all just alara after the conflux?
Gavin, I would love to submit designs for auxiliary products such as Planechase, Archenemy, and other game modifying supplements such as Explorers of Ixalan
House rule: Each time you roll the planar die, you roll dice and choose which result you keep!
The real trouble with this is my personality will make me want all the planes so my life for the next little while is going to be a literal plane chase
So I assume there must be some cards that let chaos ensue since it’s not tied to the die roll anymore
With Planechase back, can we get another box set that reprints them all? So that everyone has access to all the planes easily :) They're like hundreds on ebay and amazon and so on iirc :(
That would be good, but the nice thing at least is that I don't think anyone would have an issue with proxying these, worst case scenario.
what if only one player has a MOM deck. is it ok to use just their 10 cards? does a player have to have their own planechase cards to roll the dice every turn?

We still limited to only two phenomena per deck, regardless of how big it is?
Can I buy a March of machine precon and play it against others even if they don’t have plane cards? Or can the planar decks only be used if everyone has one?
They're just normal precons if you don't wanna play with planes.
How does barbarian class or other dice related effects work with planechase?
You're still rolling a die, aren't you? Same things apply, even if it's a special one. Only thing that makes a difference is the fact you can't roll up numbers on the planar die.
A+ execution
So, if you don't have planechase card, and someone bring those precon at the table, what happens ? We play with only the plane design for that precon?
Rule 0 it out. Unless someone goes into infinite mana to slow draw their entire deck with Panopticon it should be alright
Will the decks include Fractured Powerstone?
Yes they do
The planar dice triggers my OCD all of them are a mana color except the except the grey one. They need to make a red one, then I can accept the grey one as colorless mana colored and have a complete set of six. The Doctor Who ones don't count in this set.
Is it the player who did lethal damage to the battle who gets the card, or is it the owner of the permanent?
I've heard a lot about planechase in older formats. I'm very interested with how reinviting such an old mechanic could work with modern cards.
The Ball was seriously DROPPED for the plane chase dice !!!
The colors are all wrong except the green / purple one
Fantastic although I'd love a way to get all the old planechase cards having this as part of the commander product is great!

Are Battles permanents? Can they be Shocked or only "defeated" through combat damage? Do they 'die'?
1) Yes. This has been confirmed.
2) "Any target" burn damage works. Dealing enough damage by any available method will cause them to transform. This has been confirmed.
3) When they 'die' (at least by damage), they transform.

So your thoughts on the reports of Magic artists getting paid below industry standards

They aren't. Magic pays above the TCG industry average. This is well-known. But your own point that they are being paid below the industry standard is simply verifiably false, so is a leading question based around a total falsehood, which isn't the way to start said debate in a meaningful fashion.
