      Not being a tool just curious to see whether a brown or black belt would get crushed by a smaller man with this technique
      I’ve been crushed by kesa before but only by people bigger than me.

    • @thedopesickshow
      @thedopesickshow 2 года назад +8

      @@prandz420 it works, I’m 170 pounds and have tapped 220+ pound guys with it. I’m a bjj blue belt and judo brown belt, it’s kind of a staple in judo and we spend a tremendous amount of time drilling it because a 20 second pin is a win in judo.

    • @prandz420
      @prandz420 2 года назад +1

      @@thedopesickshow do you find it can be just as stable as the other osaekomi?
      I really like the position but I find it takes a lot of effort to keep and find myself getting tired maintaining the position. I’d like to get to the point where I can relax while the person underneath suffers

    • @thedopesickshow
      @thedopesickshow 2 года назад +4

      @@prandz420 it all comes down to the opponent’s shoulder, if you keep that shoulder off the ground you win and if they can get it to the ground they can possibly take your back. To solve this I keep the shoulder shelfed on my thigh and connect the arm that goes around the head behind my knee by grabbing it. You don’t go up too high (your body), that’s a common mistake and makes it possible to reverse. If you have their shoulder on your thigh and pull their head off the ground it makes it impossible to bridge. There’s a balance with substantially stronger people of pressure and then letting your body be a wet blanket to keep from getting reversed if you’re not familiar with the position, but to apply pressure I put my body a little lower, squeeze the head up (don’t strain but get the head up and lock in position) and lift my butt off the ground so they carry my weight. Sometimes I do the “mothers milk” (smother) by pulling the face into my chest for extra umph. I’m doing well today but did 5 years in federal prison (off heroin since April 9th 2010) and had 2 years training prior to prison. I used kesa gatame in actual fights a couple times and we actually trained grappling a bit in there and it was something with little experience that worked successfully any and every time against substantially bigger people so I have a lot of faith in it. Add strikes and they’re absolutely helpless (watch Ronda Rousey vs Alexis Davis). A lot of judo throws land you directly into kesa gatame so it’s something in judo you must get good at. An INCREDIBLE drill you need to do and are doing yourself a huge disservice is take turns with a training partner allowing trip or throw, but once you hit the ground it’s a live round for 30 seconds. You must pin them or you must escape depending on if you’re throwing or getting thrown. There’s a HUGE disconnect between standing and ground and in competition when I’ve landed throws this has helped me because I don’t wait and admire my work, I get to work and get position QUICK while most opponents have a 2 second deer in headlights moment once it hits the ground and realize oh yeah we’re still going. In judo a 20 second pin is a win, but you only have 20 seconds to get it so it’s much more explosive and aggressive. On top of that how quick you get stood up varied referee to referee.

But in a few weeks I think ill be 100 percent. I also used a guard pass from Henry. I just happened to watch a video of his. Then tried it in class. I like his style of bjj.

    This is my favorite position, by far, due to the stated reasons in the video. However, I've always had problems with getting swept from this position - are there any pointers on how to avoid that?

    • @bjarneschmalbach1524
      @bjarneschmalbach1524 2 года назад +21

      By getting swept, you mean getting bridged over as it is shown in the video?
      If so, your weight is probably too far towards the midline of your opponent.
      It could help to stay further to the outside and keep your weight lower to the ground overall (ie, lean forward).
      They can only effectively bridge you when they get their hips close to yours (similar to how its hard to bridge someone out of high mount)

    • @tokinabo
      @tokinabo 2 года назад +1

      Bending their head towards their chest avoids that too. Henry does that by bringing the knee up of the leg is is holding

    • @benmackerras1801
      @benmackerras1801 Год назад +2

      @@bjarneschmalbach1524 They can also kick their leg up and hook it around your neck to sweep and even submit. keeping your head and weight lower to the ground so they cant get their leg around your neck/head would also be the defense for this

      There's three basic escapes that can be combod and a lot it depends on the distance between your hips and his.
      They are very hard to just write out and make sense.
      But the three basic escapes are something you should have learned at white belt.
