Learned this from Henry many years ago. And this is my secret weapon to pass a good open guard player, I'll just fall into their closed guard and pass on my knees, leaving them no chance to play open guard.

This is a truly invisible Jujitsu. Thank you Professor Henry for sharing your insight on the closed guard. Most jujitsu higher belts tend to view close guard as basic fundamentals. This totally changes my view of the closed guard for this point going forward!

and, yes, we Brazilians DO LIKE this "foreign" evolution of the art, and ARE NOT closed in our traditional system, as so many people think

It's all very interesting but why mister Akins doesn't show us if he can open a black belt guard from the knees, instead of saying that the art of opening the guard from the knees got lost? He could try to open the Keenan Cornelius guard. if I'm not mistaken a few years ago Keenan Cornelius argued that it was useless to teach opening the closed guard from the knees.

I’ve personally watched Henry open plenty of black belt level guards from his knees. He also advocates for standing. The beautiful part is the posture he explains here can be so difficult to overcome that a lot of people just abandon their closed guard entirely and opt to open up on their own. It also can be “mastered” relatively quickly. I’ve used it for years and have had almost no one save for the highest level competitors be able to break my posture. It’s legit.

@Keegan Yentsch Do you think that he gives the credits everytime, or he talk with arrogance like was he the creator? The way he talk in BJJfanatics is much more kind than his regular way.
