You're the only person I've found on RUclips that gives great examples of exercises with resistance bands and explaining the "why" of resistance band training. Lots of good advice. Thanks for that.
I find myself using bands more frequently as I'm getting older. They take a lot of the blunt force trauma away from my joints and focus more on a muscle pump.
I'm 57 and a lineman also recovering from 2 herniated discs, rehab going good but looking forward to putting muscel back on, Santa is bringing me your bands. Looking forward to them.
My bands arrived today and worked this afternoon, I am wearing a pair of cycling gloves for grip, but did feel a nip on my hands today, but really like them..
I recently bought the Undersun resistance band kit. Just the kit only, no app edition. To be honest, I’m having trouble seeing and feeling the pump people seem to talk about. I used to be a free weights and dumbbells guy but then I separated my shoulder and since then I’ve been searching for ways to get back to my more muscular physique without re-injuring myself. What am I doing wrong?
add more resistance to the band, for example, if your anchoring your band to the door, distance yourself a bit more from the door so that the band is stretched a little bit before you start your reps, that way there will be more tension in the band and it will be more difficult for you to do your reps. If your doing bicep curls, widen your stance when standing on the band to increase the resistance. He made a few videos on it in the past.
One key thing when starting with bands is to pre-tension or pre-stretch the band, the less slack from the starting position the more constant the tension just like James says in the video, if you aren't getting a pump you are probably working through the exercises too quickly and not controlling both ends of the movement. Bands take some messing around with to get used to, you have to feel your way through each exercise it's not intuitive for most people.
Hy James! Just saw a vdo where the presenter told that gains through resistance bands take place only during our initial phase of our training and when we become comfortable with the resistances the gains become somewhat difficult to achieve. So can u please clarify?
Human beings have survived and improved so much since the dawn of time thanks to their adaptability. We adapt and we do it fast. That is why, when you pick up a workout routine and extend it for, let's say a whole year, by December your body, muscles and metabolism already "know" what you're up to. Hence the stress put in your body lowers dramatically. While if you constantly, lets say monthly, change your routine, yes you are going to suffer it and feel in a world of pain in comparison with having a steady, year long repetitive routine, but that is your body, suffering and adapting to those changes in exercises and, ultimately, growing stronger.
