Autonomous farm work - enter the robots

- The use of autonomous robots in agriculture is increasing the efficiency of food production. Robots, like Spot from Boston Dynamics, increase accuracy in yield estimates, relieve the strain of worker shortages, and create precision in farming.
A sheepdog is not only an efficient worker but a warm, frendly and loyal company

Just wait until they get a gatling gun on their backs.
As a farmer, I will never replace my dog with a robot. Not only are my dogs good for herding the sheep, goats, etc.
But they are also an integral part of the organic network you need on a farm.
The dogs hear the geese when we can't at night. And they understand their calls. They will know something is wrong before anyone even gets to my property. Also, dogs can be trained for multiple uses, which include swimming, scent detection, and a true sense of sentience (even if it is lower than humans.)
@@jackwoods535 Yes;; all for 300X the price of a dog.
Exactly. There is more to life than efficiency. Unfortunately, when you give all the power to corporations and engineers, they tend to look at society as a problem to be solved. All this automation, at the cost of social dynamics.

Yes, Big brother spying on people picking fruit. Such crucial intelligence 🥳
A good farm dog is a technology that's been in development for millions of years. Robots have a lot of catching up to do.
Need a better video that shows the bot actually doing something a typical farmer would recognize as work that needs to be done.
It can't though. It will never compare to an actual dog. Not until machines have already taken over everything else in life. This is just self-promotion.

What farmer will spend $70K for a dog that require a new battery every 90 mins?
No one ever said farmers would be the ones to buy the dog. What part of "think of a group of robots independently working and feeding streams of data to any system anywhere around the word" tells you that farmers are going to be the ones who buy it, or even operate it? When a car manufacturer automates, is the worker the one who pays for the robot? Of course not. Use your brain.
The point is that it will help farmers work more efficiently by automating a large part of what they do. It says in the video what the implications of that are.
Lol, people said the same things about cars. They were like "who would wanna buy a stupid carriage that you have to refuel every now and then". Trust me, in the future, these robots will be a whole lot more advanced, cheap and effective
Farmers will be forced, as they have been over decades, to conform by the people who control their money, to buy more and more expensive equipment, seed, fertilizers, GPS systems, etc. to be able to keep up. The profit goes to Monsanto and other global holdings monstrosities that had the devious foresight to buy up the machinery manufacturers, seed producers, genetically modified seed lines and GPS technology -- basically everything to do with global food production. The farmers are slaves on their own land and do what they are told. Thanks republicans.

That's cute, you should really see more of these little "dogs" at work. I get that this awful promotional video doesn't show them actually doing anything but they are fast (up to 40 kmph if I'm not mistaken, although the smaller models like this one maybe are a bit slower?). Maybe check out the boston dynamics video of then dancing to get an idea of how agile/fast they are and then remember that they can work 24/7 (it might not apply to shepherding) so even if they do work slower they do so much work than an animal ever could, for example robot masons lay bricks at about a third of the speed a human does, but they work 24/7 at a regular speed with amazingly consistent results without the need to interview, validate, train, integrate, etc. a new employee. In other words, everyone will be out of a job eventually.

That’s the smartest comment I’ve heard on this video so far
the black mirror episode was inspired by these boston dynamics robots!
Basically people watch bad fiction to be inspired to make bad inventions. Meanwhile the truth of reality remains unknown arctic-news.blogspot.com the ESAS Methane bomb has been triggered and in five years it will be too hot to grow food at scale on earth.
Future drones for space will be invaluable. People will always need to be there for inspiration but the leg work is for the machines now
A farmer will never give up his dog. This robot will militarised and work against us.
Things that nightmares are made of.
i think theyre cute
You see that reply "I think the are cute". I think that's how they get you; they make you think it's cute, when it actually is scary as shit. That reply might even be by a bot itself. They try to convince us that they are cute and friendly. I am telling you..
@Yomangamer was that middle finger really necessary
Anyone else see something like this robot on the show black mirror? Spoiler alert it killed pretty much everyone.....
@@Surfweinerhawaii yeah that episode was inspired by Spot

I like the offered feature of relieving worker shortage. Indeed, it's cheaper than to pay a just-better-than-slavery living wage, which is the low tech more effective way to relieve the shortage.
That's a horrifying thought! Imagine what 1,000 or 10,000 of those working together could do. You couldn't stop them.
