- Is a dishwasher in the RV a complete waste of time, money and space? Some say yes, some say no. But, we decided to give it a try. We purchased a Novete Compact Dishwasher from Amazon and Derrick plumbed into our RV under the sink. Yeah, we lost a little space, but we gained a little workhorse. Take a look at how we did it and see if it might be right for you, too.

Thanks for sharing how you hooked this up under the sink! Could you please clarify two things, using your set-up: 1) Does the dishwasher automatically pull the water it needs through the hose when you start a cycle? 2) Where did you connect the drain from the dishwasher -- does it need to be lower than the actual dishwasher for gravity to help the water drain out of it?
Answer to 1.) Yes. Answer to 2.) Derrick connected the drain hose above the dishwasher and it pumps it out. If we could have connected it below, that would probably be preferable. But that wasn't an option for this install. It's worked fine. It will be interesting to see how everything works when we get back! Thanks for stopping by!
If we were spending extended time in an RV, a dishwasher sure would be helpful. I also expect the much like our home dishwasher, it would be a great water saver. The other convenience we would want would be a washer/dryer. It's awesome that you could fit it below your sink with minimal modifications. It's also great to have the window to see it working. 🙂
Exactly. It's just a measure to help with cleanliness and convenience, which, as I just mentioned to Jack above, we are really going to need next year (more on that later...). Thanks so much for stopping by!
OMG I thought It was the only one that put a dishwasher under the sink. I had to modify as well the drain pipes. I used a shark bite on the hot water line and used a T conector with shut of valve. One sede is for dishwasher connected and the other is the faucet connected. I used the larger dishwasher. I love the dishwasher! You guys are amazing! I love the fact I wasn't the only one having the same idea. Enjoy your dishwasher!! I know I do!!
Haha! There’s a few of us! We love it. Have no regrets! Thanks so much for stopping by!
I miss my dishwasher so much! After over a year on the road I've accepted that handwashing is my life now since we don't have the room for one! I hope you enjoy yours!
I had accepted that, too! But then we found this little unit and found a place for it, so it worked out. And yes, a washer/dryer is really helpful. But there are some good campgrounds with laundry facilities, so that's good. Thank you for stopping by and all the best!
I genuinely know that after having mine for just a few months now, and not having to put my dirty dishes to pile up in the sink, y'all will fall in LOVE with the less clutter you have in your motor home! I just use mine inside my small kitchen, so I am CERTAIN y'all will grow to love having access to a HOT dishwasher now!!!!🤠🤠🤠
We 100% love it! Use it all the time. Glad you like yours as well! Safe travels! Thanks for stopping by!
Seeing how smoothly your dishwasher fits so perfectly in your space gets me a little jealous: I just pour the water in the top😄😄😄. But I LOVE everything about it!!!!
And that totally works, too. That is how we tested it and knew we liked it right from the get-go. We were lucky that it fit in that spot. It did mean I had to give up that under sink space, but it was totally worth ti. Thanks for stopping by!
It also heats the water 💦 I really liked it. I wish it had lasted longer
You know, I have heard that from some others. - that it didn't last as long as they would have liked. I think we must have lucked out. All the best in looking for a solution, though. And thanks for stopping by!
❤ thank you so much for posting. Your hubby is amazing . My husband trying to figure out piping for when we order our dishwasher. I cook a lot. The last thing I want to do is wash dishes have been doing it for years my hands they get tired.
Feel free to reach out if he has any questions. Our little dishwasher runs like a champ and we couldn't be happier. Someone said in another comment that they heard it didn't work well. And that may be true, but we love ours. And frankly, when it dies, we will replace it. Best of luck to you.
We have this exact unit. We used it very infrequently - maybe 20 loads. It lasted just past the warranty period. Now it just pumps water into the basin and sits there counting down. I have to dump the water out. No circulation, noise, movement, etc. $370 down the drain so to speak.
I’m sorry you had that happen. We happen to have a good unit. Hopefully it works out for you.
@@2RR Thanks! Good news! While it took about 3 weeks comprised of 2 day delays between email questions and answers + shipping from China, they sent me a new main pump. Installed in 15 minutes, and it's working great! Learned about cinch clamps.
I put a similar unit in my 5th wheel. It took up half the storage in my kitchen island but the problem I had was during the dry cycle. The exhaust on the right wall (if you’re looking at the unit) blows out the hot moist air and was causing condensation build up after just a few washes. I was nervous this would lead to mold. Ultimately I cut a hole in the side of my island and put a floor register in to help vent out the air during the dry cycle. Finally, using a Dremel, I cut out space in the register to fit a computer fan and wired it to an on/off switch. It was a long process but it works great. Just wondering if you’re having any issues like I had during your dry cycles?
We don’t, actually. Incan ask Derrick, though, how it’s vented. We haven’t noticed any smell or extra moisture. Thanks for the comment and I’ll check into it and get back to you. 😊
I love your review of this product. Thank you.
Thank you. We love our little dishwasher! Thanks for stopping by!
With two kids in a small RV, the thing I missed most was my dishwasher. I would trade my stove for it! Doing dishes in a small sink was NO fun.
I agree! And with little ones you can really use a dishwasher. Maybe one of the countertops ones could work for you. We were surprised at how little water it actually used. Thanks for stopping by and all the best!
I never thought RVs would have dishwashers.🐸
Yup. Actually I think they are apartment dishwashers adapted to RVs. But the big diesels can have them already installed. Crazy, huh?!
If I traveled in an RV I would definitely want a dishwasher. I wouldn't want to have to do more housework on the road than I have to do at home.
Absolutely! It has more than paid for itself in super clean dishes and just not having to have that one more thing! Thanks so much for watching, commenting and stopping by! Take care!
I know its been awhile since you guys installed this, but do you happen to remember what size the hose fitting is on the inlet of the washing machine? I'm hoping its the standard 3/4 or 5/8 so that I can plumb it into my existing plumbing instead of the faucet in the kitchen. There isn't a lot of information out there and I've been looking at this model for awhile. Thanks guys. You have a lovely RV!
I’m so sorry I didn’t see this sooner. I asked Derrick and he couldn’t remember the exact size. He said he used what came with the unit and it wasn’t a problem. I went out on Amazon to see if that info was on the product description and I couldn’t see it anywhere. So that’s probably not much help! I can tell you it was a pretty straightforward installation once he knew how he was going to install it. Hopefully you’ll locate the hose size. We still love it and recommend it. Thanks for stopping by!
the dishwasher has its own water heater so you don't need to connect it to the hot water. With the hot water always attached you will not be able to use the fruit mode.
That’s true, but we don’t intend you use the fruit mode. We are really happy with the unit. It’s working great. Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for video. Does yours maintain the water temp per cycle that it says it will? If you pause it and open door, it displays temp.
Yes it does. We always had super clean dishes. I never noticed if it displayed a temp. I’ll have to check. Thanks for stopping by!
I would replace the water line with a stainless steel water line so you don't have a leak down the road.
Good idea. We will keep that in mind as a possibility. Thanks for stopping by!
this is 100% something I want.
I SOOO love my little dishwasher! Totally recommend! Thanks for stopping by!
Sometimes I'd rather have a dishwasher than dishes. Especially in the RV, handwashing dishes in the small sink and drying them on the small counter makes a mess and gets in the way.
You know, we weren’t sure if we would really like the dishwasher, but we really like it a lot! It’s running just fine and even though it’s a little annoying to have lost that space under the sink, I like the dishwasher a lot more than I miss the space.
Thanks for stopping by!
No, it’s not especially when your hands get real dry and cracked and all kinds of things also dishwashers use less water than Washing dishes at the sink also sometimes we get tired.
I have this one and it died on its 4th month.
Again (like the previous comment) I am really sad yours didn't last. I think we must have lucked out because ours has been fine. But I can sure empathize and yes, I agree, dry cracked hands (especially my thumb!) are no fun. All the best to you and thanks for stopping by!
I just heat up hot water from the stove and pour it into the sink. Not a big deal.
And that’s a great way to do it too!
Can it wash pots and pans?
Yes, if they can fit. I generally would rinse out a pan before putting it in. Also, I don't mind doing a few pots or pans. It's the glasses and plates and silver that I try and avoid. I still love my little dishwasher!! Thanks for stopping by!
Reviews state that this unit breaks down after just a short while. How's your unit doing now?
It’s doing fine. I’ll update if it goes down.
It would be horrible having to bend over that far or stoop down to load and unload the dishwasher under the sink. You'll be wishing you had decided to use it as a countertop DW.
Actually, it's not hard at all and we love it! I am a short person, so the bending over is pretty minimal. I don't have enough counter space to spare, so it was either under the sink or not at all. Thanks for stopping by!
You took the RV to Israel???
Oh my no 😁. The driving is so cra6 over there we wouldn’t make it driving a car! I’m sorry if you got that impression. No, our trip to Israel was by plane and with a tour group. But we are mostly RVers and are happy to travel the US in our Tiffin. Thanks for stopping by!
@@2RR So where did you go in israel?
