Sadly, the old motherboard I tried it on (Sandy Bridge) would not allow the board to POST (known BIOS issue that never got fixed for that particular board). However, I sold it to someone on whose board it did POST, and put that money towards a $160 GTX 1060 3GB. The old Sandy Bridge i5 + 1060 3GB now hums along quietly in the living as an excellent HTPC. The R9 380 was a great card, since it's the one I had… and in fact still do. Til tomorrow, the new RX 6600 (non-XT, XT is still 100 Euros more expensive) arrived today. First new card in over six years. Stoked. Last 4 cards were HD 4650, HD 5750, HD 7790, then the R9 380. I do look like an AMD fanboi, don't I? Well, that's *part* of the equation. The other part is that they had, as long as I clearly remember :D the best price/performance _in my budget_. The RX 6600? 260 Euros. More than I'd like to spend, but then again, it's about three times as powerful as the 380. Nvidia's competition? The 3050 is over 300 here, and the 3060 is *way* higher than that. :D
I'm building my friend her first PC and giving her an R9 380x that I have from a used parts but off Craigslist. It's not the best card in the world but I'm really impressed with how a $200 GPU from 2016 holds up today. I managed to get a R5 3600 used for $100 to pair with it. Eventually she'll probably get a 3060 or 3060ti when they're available.
@@brendanmcewen7190 it's ok though because she doesn't really have the need or budget for a 30 series GPU be right now anyway. The 380x will serve her well for at least a year or more.
@@Matt_Sorensen Yeah I hear you. I have an R9 380 as well, just re-pasted it and took literally 20 degrees off my temps. My son sold me his old fairly good i5 PC with lots of RAM but with an poor NVidia graphics card last year. Yeah but because this GPU have a relatively high power usage , wouldn't it be bad to buy a used one ? Doesn't high TDP equal to lower lifespan ? Especially the fact that this GPU is highly popular amongst miners in China and everytime I search for one it'll always show "Shipping from China" . Anyone got any opinion ? Because I'm really considering to buy this card
Buying used graphics cards has, of course, a higher risk than buying new, especially if there's no warranty being offered. Crypto mining with GPUs has been a thing for over a decade, extreme overclocking has been a thing for longer than that, and some people don't look after their stuff. Hell, it could get damaged in the post, especially as many people don't keep the original packing for their stuff. Whether you buy used depends on your own aversion to risk. As to "high TDP = lower lifespan", it's probably not quite as simple as that. My understanding is that heat is the killer, and a higher TDP only means a lower lifespan if the card isn't adequately cooled. Of course, I might be wrong.
@@IcebergTech So what would you reccomend , do I buy R9 380 4GB or a GTX 960 2GB ? 960 2GB cost a bit more than the R9 380 4GB in my country (like 15$ more)
Idk how did you get this low fps in HZD, its even updated and patched so many times since i played it with 1.04 or 1.05 version. Now i have 10400f with Z590 board and 16gb of 3200MHz ram, it should give me more fps than before, or patched versions are more demanding rn, idk.
Yes, I think it probably would. Even in older games like GTA V, a dual core can cause poor frame timing that will make the game feel less smooth. The R9 380 is still a good card to buy, but you might want to at least overclock your Pentium or consider upgrading it in the near future to get the most out of it. If you were looking for a cheap CPU upgrade, I see that the E3-1240 V3 can be had for £35 on AliExpress right now, that's a locked i7-4770 near-equivalent CPU. Hello good sir did you think this card with 200$(used) price still good? For compariso the gtx 1650 are priced about $400 here and rx 570 $300 or so (used)
"Good" is a tough word to use at $200. I'd be hoping to get an R9 290 or 390, or a GTX 780Ti or 970 for that money. If that's not possible, then yes it's a good card.
@@adityaarifhartanto1897 Well, I haven't tested the 380X but I imagine it will only be a few % better than the 380. For $200 I'd like to get something a little better, though ofc I don't know what your local used market is like.

Hello becouse i can't update my r9 380 4gb anymore no more updates i got black screen when i play resident evil village what to do now i need to work long for new graphics ?
The 380 will perform better in almost everything, but the lack of official drivers might become an issue in the long run. If the price is close, I’d get the 380 for now and upgrade to a 470/480 when prices come down.
Oh, yes, I still have this card, it's long overdue for its upgrade and unfortunately I might need to (Total War Warhammer 3 minimum is GTX900/ RX400) but the market isn't the most favourable... 😭 I have planned to wait for next gen (which reportedly has a huge jump in performance compared to the current one) but this latest development means it might be a little too far...
That depends on price and what you want to play. The 580 is 30-60% faster depending on the game, and will gain driver updates which will affect new game releases. It's largely not worth the premium price people are charging for it these days, though.
@@darthlink64 Good question! I'm afraid I haven't tested it myself, but the minimum specs are for the RX 570, so you'll probably have to make some quality reductions to get the 380 to run it.

Simply put two cheap fans on it that I had laying around, case fans that is.
and boom plays world of warcraft without issue haha.
My dear lord is it the same for the 380x?
@@adityaarifhartanto1897 Well, I haven't tested the 380X but I imagine it will only be a few % better than the 380. Both are good cards, definitely, but I'd be inclined to look for them for about $150-175. For $200 I'd like to get something a little better, though ofc I don't know what your local used market is like.
Idk if its me or what but my r9 380 crashes if I do almost anything and I play fortnite on the lowest resolution and lowest 3d res on performance mode with all lows except view distance which is medium and I get 90 FPS if im lucky gliding down I get 30fps and when im not getting 30 from landing outside of buildings I get anywhere from 50-70 FPS
That doesn't sound good! Have you run Afterburner to see what temperatures and clocks you're getting?
Hello becouse i can't update my r9 380 4gb anymore no more updates i got black screen when i play resident evil village what to do now i need to work long for new graphics ?
Hm, that doesn't sound promising. Which drivers are you using?
Should I get this or Rx 560?
The 380 will perform better in almost everything, but the lack of official drivers might become an issue in the long run. If the price is close, I’d get the 380 for now and upgrade to a 470/480 when prices come down.
Oh, yes, I still have this card, it's long overdue for its upgrade and unfortunately I might need to (Total War Warhammer 3 minimum is GTX900/ RX400) but the market isn't the most favourable...
😭
I have planned to wait for next gen (which reportedly has a huge jump in performance compared to the current one) but this latest development means it might be a little too far...
la verdad el juego me va vastante bien, fluido a 1920x1080 y seve bonito
Should i get this or rx580?
That depends on price and what you want to play. The 580 is 30-60% faster depending on the game, and will gain driver updates which will affect new game releases. It's largely not worth the premium price people are charging for it these days, though.
@@IcebergTech thx! Could i play halo infinite with this one?
@@darthlink64 Good question! I'm afraid I haven't tested it myself, but the minimum specs are for the RX 570, so you'll probably have to make some quality reductions to get the 380 to run it.
@@darthlink64 I have a 4GB R9 380 in an older setup (i7 2600K/8GB); at 1280x960 resolution my FPS results are approximately as follows:
Shooting range: 60
Bot multiplayer on Bazaar map: 22
Tutorial landing pad (after intro scenes): 12-14
In other words: nope.
look at this quality of video....
Thanks :)
