    "Jennifer Aniston is the best thing in this film." Well that sounds terrifying.

      She inspires a little cognitive dissonance in me- she's the nicest woman imaginable (and very attractive, of course), but when it comes to her 'acting career', I f*cking loathe her. I'm so confused.

      He was alright in Zootropolis, though that was just his voice and the physical acting was a cartoon fox.

    It's like the executives and writers in Hollywood don't realize that simpler is funnier. Rather than have a convoluted reason for the party to happen, they should have just spent a while showing everyone in their jobs and build up the plot through characterization and then have the party happen normally

    Jason Bateman continues to pick disappointing roles after the brilliance of The Gift. Why Jason!

    • @LJY08
      @LJY08 7 лет назад +2

      I don't think Bateman is of the caliber of actor that gets to pick his roles. It would be what he gets offered - and probably after the roles have been offered to other actors. He's a 3rd or even 4th tier actor (in the eyes of the studios). As he has to pay his bills and save for his retirement, this is the steady stuff that keeps him in the public eye, and keeps him living a comfortable life.
      Don't get me wrong, Bateman is very funny if he's in the right role - he has natural comedic flare and timing and can really hold his own. This would have just been a money gig for him; easy work, get to play with some talented and famous people - and get paid in the process.

      @@LJY08 Exactly. The idea that people choose their work is mostly bs. There may be some people out there who don't need money, but most actors take what they're given. When de Niro or Hopkins do it, we laugh about them banking the cheques, but then we somehow expect other actors not to want to bank some cheques...

    I haven't seen this film so I am not defending it. But it should seriously be illegal for Kermode to review comedies. He laughs at things that no one else laughs at and condemns ACTUAL funny things that most people consider funny. This is the man who thinks the Minions saying BANANA! Is the funniest thing ever.. seriously? If you were 10 years old and laughed at that then I wouldn't have a problem with it but coming from someone who has no ear for comedy and coming from someone who is generally very down on anything funny then it makes me extremely aggravated!

  • @jcorbett9620
    @jcorbett9620 7 лет назад +8

    No Mark, there is nothing wrong with your ear for comedy - at least, this kind of American comedy, where the writers are so lazy, that to make the line "funnier" they get the actors to shout it louder. Which seems to be the way all modern Amercan "comedy" films and shows are - the louder the actors shout the lines, the funnier it is supposed to be. Ronnie Barker is funnier NOW than all these so-called comedic actors/actresses will EVER be... and he's dead!!

    • @doublediamond9226
      @doublediamond9226 7 лет назад

      J Corbett just imagine you shouting that, yeah?

    • @LJY08
      @LJY08 7 лет назад +1

      I have to agree with you. This is the only kind of comedy America produces now, and it just isn't funny - and your totes right that the writers are just lazy and churn it out as quickly as possible to make money for the studios.
      I mean, you can't compare this to 'Christmas Vacation' - a truly awesome Christmas comedy.

      sam handsaker
      Well if I was shouting it, that would mean I was intending it to be hilariously funny - which I'm not. Simply a statement of fact from my POV.

    How funny hearing Simon mentioning JA's name the way he did, because I have warning signs that I look out for to avoid a movie and she is sadly one of those signs plus the usual faces that are linked to these type of so called comedies, it had to be a pass for me.

    Was it as good as The Office (for the benefit of Yanks, I mean the far superior British version and the not the gag-gag-gag-aha-he's-an-Amish-tee-hee-hee American version)? No, it wasn't. Let's move on.
