    As a Mechanical Engineer that took a lot of thermodynamics courses the discussion about "cold energy" hurt my brain.... but it did show that clearly a topic on general thermodynamics would be a good one. To answer Jim's question about using cold for energy... yes... sort of. Energy can be turned into work when there's a difference of energy levels. Such as a difference in height, momentum from waves etc.
    However in the thermodynamics world it's pretty much from a difference in temperature... so if you have a cold environment (reservoir) and a slightly warmer environment (reservoir) you could gain work from that. You really should get someone with a doctorate in thermo on, it is a scientific subject that has a beautiful cosmic balance and meaning to it. In some ways it mirrors religion. Such as the first law of thermodynamics: energy cannot be created or destroyed. Or as mentioned earlier to harness energy you typically need both an abundance and absence of energy (sort of like yin and yang, good and evil).

      Oversimplified way to explain is that while heat is energy, cold is an absence of heat so there's no energy in it.
      I understand there could still be a way to play with ΔTemperature but let's not get ahead of ourselves and focus on Archaeopteryx instead.

    • @derPetunientopf

      "so if you have a cold environment (reservoir) and a slightly warmer environment (reservoir) you could gain work from that." Correct me if im wrong but how i see this we would get energy from the warmer environment. So we wouldnt tap into the cold at all, its still the heath energy that would be turned into electricity. So Jim is looking in the wrong corner or holding the map upside down kinda.

    The issue is that regular people can't afford solar. Let all the rich people get it first and then then price should come down. Saying that though in some instances over here (England) you can get solar panels fitted to council houses for free. (Council house is like a very cheap (compared to normal) house that the government rents to people who are in bad situations, way too much to explain in a YT comment).

    Hello from Portugal.
    I've met this amazing girl, from Michigan, in a mobile game, after a few months of chatting online, last week out of an impulse, we decided to meet up in London (England) for the weekend. We spent 3 incredible days in a hotel room having the most outrageous sex and in between "takes" we would stream Jim's specials. She didn't know about Jim but she loved him so much that we found ourselves looking into dates for the moist tour.
    I am now planning my first trip to the US to watch Jim live in a place called Grand Rapids on April the 8th.
    It would be great if Jim could give a Shout out to Amanda from Michigan.
    Looking forward for our meet and greet with Jim and to share with him our crazy story. 3 days in London, having sex and binging Jim's specials.

    Jim, while you can't technically energize a system by cold as "cold" is a description of a lack of "heat" energy, peltier units, sterling engines, thermocouples, and other devices can run off of a temperature difference. I run my Sterling engine off of ice cubes all of the time. It's technically running off of ambient heat in the room but the ice can be thought of as a fuel(inaccurate, but easier to understand) because it is the only thing that is consumed by the engine in lay mans terms. So yes, you can use the cold to power things. I do it all the time.

    • @igotapochahontas
      @igotapochahontas 3 года назад +1

      And yes, you can power engines off of methane. My motorcycle has a tri-fuel kit on it. The issue with that is how difficult it is to compress methane.

    44:10 Forest. NEVER EVER question Jim's Beatles knowledge. He is 100% correct about Free As A Bird. It was not a lost Beatles song. That song was written in 1977 by Lennon, long after the Beatles had split up. He only recorded a rough demo of it on a home recording, which Yoko owned. It was never intended to be a Beatles song. It did not "come out" in the 60s or the 70s. The 1995 release was cobbled together by Geoff Lynne and the three ex Beatles, who wrote and recorded their parts IN THE 90s and incorporated Lennon's hissy home demo into the mix. It was then marketed as a 'lost' Beatles song but was in effect a NEW Beatles song. It could even be described as a cover version of an unreleased Lennon song that happened to use a 'sample' of the man himself.
    Like Jim was suggesting: this is like Tesla's ideas being adapted as tech caught up with his vision. The PERFECT analogy Jim. Props to you.

      That's just coz you have nothing to compare it to you have hungry Jack's Maccas and kfc, as far as American fast food goes, here in Aotearoa New Zealand we have those plus taco bell, Carl's jnr, Texas chicken and Wendy's (the burger not milkshake chain) but that's NOTHING compared to my homeland of America which takes fast food to another level (not saying that's a good thing) just that you can't compare what you don't know

    Burger places are just a convenience for me, my burgers are the best I know. 1/3 a pound is the perfect weight and my seasoning is spot on. Also look into Hodads.
