Not that I am aware of. I tested this on fairly dry sand away from the water. I will try to perform additional testing at the beach in the future. I've also tested standing on dry concrete with similar results so I don't believe the ground needs to be wet. Simple voltmeters like this can be purchased for less than $10. It's a good idea to have one to test out different locations when you ground.
