- Dr. Mike Koob, chief of staff, Idaho Humane Society Veterinary Clinic, gives advice on dogs and rattlesnakes: Take an avoidance class, be prepared on a hike; go to a clinic if bit. "Very few dogs, if ever, die of a snake bite," he reminds us. (Video by Katherine Jones)
My dog got bit 4 times within 10 years and he never died. Just had a swollen face for a few days. We lived by a lot of trees with a lot of brush by a riverbed and he would always run around down there . No medications needed. Mind you this was the early 90’s and we lived 80 miles from the vet. He was a lab mix and weighed about 85 pounds.
The big thing is take the collar off! My dads dog got bit by a rattler without him knowing when I was 3 and her neck swole up so much the collar choked her to death. Collars can be killers.
Thank you, I'm new to an area...an are full of rattlesnakes and I get worried, my dog can smell anything and has to investigate everything lol. He is a big golden doodle.
Our 5month wuffy had bite marks on head and mildly swollen lips. But is pretty active, happy and eating in smaller quantities than usual. No signs of infection Had given him an antibiotic shot and keeping fingers crossed,
THANK YOU
First thing eliminate the snake, an get your pet to the vet
Today, my dog just got a bite from sth idk if it a snake or not but im really scared that I lose him 😥😥
I hear good luck 😂hehehe
my cat got bit today. he's sesuring and vomiting. we can't get to the vet
What happened afterwards...
Did you cat recover?
Does this apply for cats that get bitten too?
Yeah, get to the vet and expect 30k in vet bills. Sorry my good friend you got into this and your making it out on your own. I will do what I can to make you comfy but im not going into debt at the vet.
Pet insurance man, its easy to get a plan that covers injuries from snajes and wild animals, usually 30-40 bucks a month and helps with general injuries as well.im lucky that mine is through USAA and they care a lot about theur image so they dont fight coverage issues unless it is legitimately questionable, they dont like any kind of bad PR. My opinion is that i took the responisbility for the safety and well being of this dog, and if it got bit then i failed my part on avoidance to include bringing an energetic/investigative dog into an area with known rattlesnake activity unleashed. The avoidance classes are awesome, and work very well, i put mine through one each year. They would die for you, just put some money into being able to cover a treatable injury for them, even the class on its own is a really really great way to prevent an incident
What to do if your dog gets bit by a rattlesnake. Buy a new dog.
