When you say "to me that's like sinking a ship" made me smile. That's why I love this stuff. Thank you again for opening the curtain on a subject I never knew I would enjoy.
I've got a Masters Degree and have been working for a university for 20 years - and this is the first time I've ever wished I paid attention in math class! You make it look so easy!
Another great video. 👍Can't wait for more content. Doesn't have to be about U-boat specifically but general nautical information would be welcome too. Thanks and keep 'em coming! 😄
Lisbon in Spain?! 😳 Noooooo, you were doing so well!!! 😂😂 Jokes aside, you've got some of the best tutorials on Uboat man, the "Intercept Vectors" helped me A LOT to understand how those calculations are made! Thank you so much for putting these videos together, I'm watching all of them, many times! Def subscribing 👍
@@xljedi2335 Nah mate, just joking. A tiny mistake amongst an ocean of good quality content and vital information, shouldn't concern you! Keep up the excellent work! 👍
Again a super tutorial vid. As with other comments and my prrevious comment I now wish Mr Sturrock our maths teacher had used U-boat angled attack as the blackboard example, sure 100% of the boys at least would have listened to him!!
It's not the point you were teaching but for this particular situation my primary consideration would be the choke points where you can expect to reliably find the convoy. In this case the NW corner of Spain qualifies but the Irish Sea makes sense if you can get there in time -giving you a second chance to rush South and catch it before Lisbon if you fail to sink it.
Honestly, I don't really think 100% is a higher difficulty than having map updates and/or crew assist turned ON. To me, all the map update icons are just irritating and in my way for attack plotting. As you can see, we have tremendous tools at our disposal for laying down the true course and becoming adept with firing solutions.
Great videos, I'm subscribing!. I started with a Type II A with no contacts on the map and oh boy I was mostly lost. You're really helping me out with these series! I have encountered a problem that you probably can help. I was looking for one of those convoys and I intercepted (actually found it by luck) at night, couldnt see anything so I couldnt engage. What could I have done? Also, continuing with this kind of situation, would be interesting for a video to show how to make an attack using only the map to get the information for the tdc and knowing when to release with the hydrophone. Not sure if it's posible, also I still have to watch the TDC videos so sorry if there's content there that would answer this.
Fantastic videos! I really love your tutorial... I have a few questions + perhaps a request...lets start with the question: I also like drawing on the map... for example when calculating the Angle on bow... but, after Ive done it once... the next time, the "angle drawing thingy" wont stick to my sub anymore... any ideas why? And for request : Id love to see a more in depth tutorial on how to calculate how to figure out the location and intercept angles and such for sonar "targets" the "intercept button" works perfectly but Id like to learn how to do it myself
These are the first subsim recordings that I've done. It was basically the strange UI that I was trying to help my Silent Hunter friends adapt to that led me to post a video. I started to write a guide, but realized it would have to be 100's of pages to explain anything. So I made some videos.
Seeing that you know the enemy start and end, could just take a minute to plot your ship to enemy start and run second leg to destination. Second leg will most likely be the course enemy will take to distination. Then plot shortest run to 2nd leg and run back toward enemy ship periodically submerging and listening.
Perhaps, but it was more meant to be a tutorial on spending movement points and the concept of stationing. I just chose an example that was hopefully relatable. Good points though. ☺
Not a bad idea at all. I was thinking that unused map view the devs give us (with no drawing tools) might one day have drawing tools and just an image of a 5090-type maneuvering board with nomograph that we could draw on.
Any chance you could do a video on how to use an attack disk, if you know how use them, there is a mod on the workshop for one and 've been trying to figure is out but don't fully understand it. it seem like it is a extremely useful tool to have if i can work it out.
Possibly, I don't typically install too many mods because I like to reach a broad audience. However, I might do something along the lines of a mod review, so I could jot that down as a future topic.
@@xljedi2335 Thank you, if you want two suggestions from me and to anyone else reading, the Sinking Physics Overhaul 2 and Sounds Of War are must have mods on the steam workshop. in my opinion 👍
Try out the real navigation mod. Instead of having your position constantly on display, as if you had GPS, you have to use dead reckoning constantly to estimate where you are (there's an automatic DR button too). With the mod you can also get a more accurate sextant fix, which can only be used if you are surfaced and there are no clouds. It's more realistic and adds another layer of difficulty.
There are some things that tilt too far toward tedious that I am OK allowing a navigator to manage. The real nav mod from my SH days never really appealed to me. If I installed it, I'd probably never bother to figure out where I was on the map. Out of curiosity, how do you manage patrol legs on the nav map? Is that just completely disabled? Probably not for me.
@@xljedi2335 To patrol I draw a line on the map with the course I want to follow and the desired length. Then I follow the course for the time it takes to cover the desired distance. At that point, I repeat the process with the next course. With the x15000 compression it is a matter of a few seconds. If I'm intercepting a convoy and I need to know my exact position, then I get an astronomical fix. The uncertainty about my exact position adds a layer of realism and difficulty that, for me, makes up for the tediousness. As a real life sailor I love to pretend I don't have a GPS and navigate using only dead reckoning, astronomical navigation and coastal navigation techniques. I'd actually enjoy having an even more realistic navigation system that would account for other dead reckoning variables, such as wind, current, magnetic declination, gyro error and so on. It'd also be awesome to have a proper astronomical navigation simulation. Of course, I understand this is too much hassle for most people.

I love your UBOAT content! Thanks for creating the next generation of Captains! The BdU wishes you to keep working as prolific as always!
Awesome, thank you!

Good questions, thank you. You can fire at targets without even looking through the scope. Probably a tad unrealistic, but why not give it a try?
Thank you so much!

Target Motion Analysis (TMA) can be pretty tedious in a WWII sub. We could talk about it though, sure.
Thanks for the video
I would love to see your silent hunter play through series. If you do have it. Looked for it but didn’t get ..

When is this on Xbox ? It's on the game store with a warning saying not yet available

Trying to reveal the sailor traits. It only comes from stressful situations. So until I have a crew of seawolfs, we will continue to drill.

quick question, you calculate your vector in km but your boat travels in knots... shouldn't you convert that first? greetings
