Thank you so so much! Had you not posted this video, I would have never known! I ordered my replacement pack on Amazon yesterday after watching this video and today I have my Dyson up and running again! You are truly a life saver!
Thanks just watched your video which made it so easy to do. I read the instructions that came with the new battery and I didn't have a clue? You're a lifesaver!
Mine died after 4 months from purchase and only used moderately, we bought this as a compliment to our larger Dyson vacuum. Called and spoke to Dyson. They will replace the batteries only as a 1 time "courtesy" to customers. During the conversation I asked what happens if the replacement dies as well (if after a couple months let's say), they said they would look at it at a case by case basis, but, they would likely charge for another battery. Which costs about 150$+shipping. The agent then proceeded to tell me that the batteries are dying because the customers aren't storing or using the units properly. Apparently, you can't use the Turbo or Max mode all the time. She told me that if I keep the unit in its max setting, it will kill the battery faster (in our case, we only used it sparingly). She went on to say the units can't be stored in the laundry rooms. Apparently this is because the kinetic energy from the washing and drying machines drum spinning, which will cause problems with the vacuums, so, just being in mere proximity of a washer or dryer can kill the batteries (seems like a pretty big design flaw to me). Very strange. Finally, they can't be stored in garages or anyplace damp or cold (this kind of sounds reasonable, I guess). Supposedly this is all in the users manual, though I haven't had time to check. Regardless, none of the aforementioned were issues in my case, but we still had our battery fail. Considering the cost of the vacuum, I'm disappointed, luckily we got ours on sale. It's unlikely we'll buy another Dyson once we're done with the two we currently own. We originally bought them because we thought they would be the best. You don't always get what you pay for it seems.
Thanks for the information about your experience, I have mostly herd good things about Dyson but I guess there must be gaps. In the quality process. I hope you have a better luck now with it.
my old dyson v8 was constantly in the laundry room right next to our washer and we had it in perfect working conditions for well over 5 years, only reason it died was because it was used everyday until the battery was just about flat. we have a new one now
thank you very much sir. in internet, when >12 red light flashes, it said "if >12, call Dyson"....... thanks to your video, I understood it meant the unit was dead. I purchased new one and works fine. Great!
Thanks for this video! So helpul. I called Dyson hoping I would also get a new battery pack but since I purchased by Dyson more than 2 years ago they wouldn't give me one. The 5 year warranty was only on the machine according to customer service at Dyson. It was 80 euros to buy a new battery pack from Dyson (Netherlands). I found the same cheaper battery on Amazon for $40. I will try it and let you know.
Thank you I am having the same issue. Just bought mine 4 months ago. Bizarre that it’s gone bad so fast! Will call dyson thanks for the great video Michael!
Thanks for taking the time to show. It's hard to believe they don't clip in so you could buy 2 batteries and change like a drill. Im on the second dyson now, they're great when they're new but the batteries are rubbish, i might pimp it with a 5ah battery
Nice job mate thanks for the info, Surprised the heck out of dyson as I knew about 12+red flashing light, new battery onway, cheers and thanks for sharing.
mine flashes yesterday, Dyson got great customer service though, they send me a new battery, but I wonder how long its gonna last. I'm worried about that cos I was told its going to be a one time courtesy. Hopefully it works fine now and lasts longer. Got my vacuum for less than a year. So I'm wondering how did battery die so fast, is it because I used the max mode?
Not dismantled mine yet (same issue) but knowing Dyson they are greedy charging for expensive parts, it's probably full of 18650 cells and easy to dismantle the battery box and replace them directly. If I do mine I'll post the results.
Thank you very much, Michael! Your video clip tip was very helpful. I bought a generic online to save a few bucks , and it didn’t come with the two screws. Oh, just one observation on the removal of the canister. It was not easy :-(
Did you have to send the old one back to them? Ours is doing the same but I'm sure I can salvage a few good cells from all of them as prob only a couple gone bad the rest would be good to use.
I got mine for Black Friday, and it's LED is flashing red, user manual says to call dyson. Think they'll honor the warranty? We had just used it, and set it back on the charger, to charge and when I went to use it tonight, Red LED flashing.
@@Didusch Also, if you haven't registered your device, register it online and put the buy date as today and you'll get 2 years warranty starting today.
Mohammed Shakil I am in the same problem, it flashes less than 10 times and it does not charge, I don’t know if is the battery or the base to recharge. Pls if u know what the problem is. Thanks
This must be a common problem as mine just started flashing red but as soon as I phoned Dyson they said they would send me out a new battery pack under warranty and didn't ask many questions unlike other companies
@@MichaelCrawford_Lens_On_A_Box no worries... I bought a replacement. The video is really great though! Can you get that purple inner part off without breaking it? Do you need a special tool?
@@margeryredd I actually have never gotten that far with it, I thump the top with my palm until dust stops coming out to clean it, still has good suction after many years of use.
Mine flash 32 times was 26 months old. Used once a week from full to almost empty on low power setting. When it broke down I used it on full power setting for half the time and it stopped, totally flat battery and it never recovered Dyson sent out a new pack FOC even though 2 months out of warranty. Thanks Dyson. I split the old pack and tested the cells and charged them with a stand alone charger, nothing wrong with them but the battery management has cut the power to the main terminals. I don't use the new pack until it's flat or on full power much. I hope when they do the cells for their electric car the BMS is more forgiving or it'll be limping home mode out of the box. Has anyone found out how to reset the BMS on the "faulty packs" after all it's electronics not magic.
That's really interesting I just tossed the old battery, these new lithium and lipo batteries are very sensitive to overcharging and over discharging hense the electronics to maintain them, but yes those electronics can fail as well. My drone battery even has self discharge options to keep battery health.
There is a fix for the 32 red flashes, the cells need to be balanced and the pack reset. It will work like before, if the cells are still in good condition. Requires a bit of hand skills. See here ruclips.net/video/7t9yA3_KUI0/видео.html

let us know how that chinese knockoff works out
Excellent video, clear, concise, made it simple unlike some others where they have bashed the poor machine to bits.

You can rebuild the old battery pack with new cells, the casing is just hard to open
Need a spot welder to do it properly

No as say dispose of it properly
very very helpful, my only question, Dyson. why does your battery last less than a year ?
Thanks Michael...gonna order a new battery now 👍🏻
Just had to get a new battery too it was knackered only had it 3 months same issue
I ordered a 3 amp hour one for my DC 35 and a DC 16 i have

Glad to have helped
Great video, exactly what i need for mine, thanks so much👍😁#782👍
My Dyson only flashes 10 times is it still battery unit fault ?
DId they say whats wrong with it if it flash a couple of times?
No sorry.
The purple barrel thing comes off too!
Mine flashed 10 times what do i do
My light is flashing blue and when on charge its making a fast pulse noise its not blocked ive taken it to bits
What if I the same led flashes blue? After being on charge it works only for a minute and that’s it. It was okay about a week ago.
Thanks, that is what I am suspecting too.
I did same , and i.m not an electrician. Easy to do
My battery pack (the original one that came with the unit) only lasted 5 months before it started blinking. Dyson's POS.
true, it happens to me too !
same!!!!!!
Yep , battery charged 4 times from new ( owned for 3 months ) battery knackered , absolutely useless !
Same

I got mine on Black Fridays too- and had the same problem as yours- what should I do - should I go to union city to fix it . Do u have ideas
