Starting to think Purifier is the real "best girl" of this game. with regards to the relations between the sirens and ship girls, I think the sirens were built as a countermeasure for them. Ship girls have the potential to learn and grow due to how their hulls and souls are formed. in order to test and monitor these girls the sirens were created. they don't have the growth potential but are instead made stronger outright to counter any girl going out of control. Bon Hom Richard might have been the first to go out of control. this might have been the incident which caused the destruction of humanity, the majority of the ship girls, and for the researcher and commander to leave the message on the terminal. We know observer Zero is the head researcher's assistant and probably head of the siren/Antiochus security failsafe. What she is probably doing in our Current timeline is having multiple dimensions running as testbeds for experimentation purposes, like having a supercomputer running multiple scenarios live at the same time. Not sure if she is going rogue like a skynet/terminator scenario or looking for a solution to counter occurrences that create rogue METAmorphasis. This then leads credence to naval HQ being warry. they know the sirens are a threat, but that a ship girl may go rogue and cause another catastrophe, which leads them to be secretive even to their own Kan sen. This may also cultivate to the point where kan sen join sirens in the future to take on the leviathans if they were indeed created by rouge META transformations. this is my theory so far, and feel free to use it if it helps.
Our theories are close...the only thing is that sirens were said to be replacements for kansen...MM playbacks refer to that. It seems META is extremely contagious so it might be a problem later on...

The only question I would have then is why the replacements are referred to being test proctors (observer, tester, purifier, etc...) if they are to supersede the kansen. they might have been created after the kansen because it was discovered that the kansen might go rouge in growth, so a countermeasure we now know as Antiochus was created. I find it odd that after the prologue and all the mentions of the Royal maids going with Elizabeth, Belfast seems to be conspicuously missing. In fact, other than Sheffield, it seems QE only brought Neptune and Cheshire with her. I wonder if the devs forgot to add Belfast and some others. One thing is really bothering me. When Monarch was fighting BHR, Richard at one point says "let's throw some friends into the mix!" shortly before QE and her group show up. I find the timing too coincidental. What if the events from this point on are actually BHR messing with Monarch's head? Like we saw BHR do with Kronshtadt. I think BHR is still there screwing with everyone. As for the purpose of the Sirens, I thought they were created to assist the shipgirls in changing the past after the original timeline has been destroyed by Leviathan. It's also likely by this time the Ashes have already formed (albeit only one per timeline, with them coming together at some point in the past to become the faction of the same name) with Alterprise being the first due to the attack on NY which killed Anzeel and Archer.

A Original story transposed over Azur Lane
I’m going to base the plot of Azur Lane off of my own stories...
List I
The Sirens are planning to turn shipgirls against humanity as they are the enemy they were talking about,
With the commander being one of the few who have a high enough affinity with wisdom cubes to create shipgirls, creates the Sirens as a method to do so,
With each iteration being more powerful than the last, yet still unable to beat humanity, especially if humanity has shipgirls, so, the logical explanation would be to get rid of such KANSEN superweapons, and add them to their firepower total,
Therefore, the goal of the Sirens is not destruction, but peace, which can only be achieved through one means, the end of another
List II
The first iteration, where, due to reasons humanity decides to turn against them (scrapped, the like), some people, who had developed connections to them (commanders, fought, and created through their combined effort (positive emotions and manifesting them into AI), the first sirens, (Observer Zero being one of them, and a semi precognitive being to help achieve this goal)
With the power of the wisdom cube, time and space as well as the higher dimensions were now accessible, but...
They lost, the Sirens escaped with one goal, another dimension
List III
Second iteration, Wisdom cubes are now a thing because the Sirens need more firepower to defeat humanity, so they carry them through dimensions, Something similar to Azur Lane happens, but the shipgirls won (the sirens were unable to turn them against humanity, as to increase their power, war and experience was needed), yet were also turned against, again, the Sirens were created, far more advanced with knowledge of the previous version, and the same thing happens again, Sirens take cubes to new dimension, and start over... but,
Humanity has access to the remains of the Sirens and shipgirls, as well as wisdom cubes, so, they now have the ability to dimension travel too (why the Sirens are trying to hide the current timeline), yet, due to wanting weapons of mass destruction out of the cubes, cannot use them to manifest consciousness, but only use them for energy... and a third faction?
The Ashes, also know as META, are a small fraction of survivors (shipgirls and commanders from each dimension) from many different dimensions, all augmented with Siren technology, some have augmented themselves on their own, others, with the help of their commanders, some have witnessed the death of their commanders, others left before it could happen, and had to say a sorrowful goodbye, all have witnessed the death of their friends
List IV
Eventually, the Sirens through multiple iterations of augmentations (the introduction of the Arbiters), have grown strong enough to stalemate the shipgirls and turn them against humanity, but it’s still not enough... until now,
List V
The special timeline, one that has the most chance of succeeding, and needs to be kept hidden, wether or not success will happen... is another question entirely
The Siren’s are just extremely advanced self conscious AI, their goal, willingly and partly through programming, is to ensure a peaceful world, wether they are a part of it, doesn’t matter, however, from the looks of things in one of Shinano’s special visions, they aren’t a part of it,
Which considering all they did...
Is unfortunate...
Especially since it means Observer Zero, failed at finding a timeline where all three species, or even two, could live in harmony)

The Sirens, have such an interest in our timeline’s commander as they are one of the only ones capable of cube manifestation in this timeline, and is extremely similar to the first ones, the Creator,
Similar to the commander, (the only one in this current timeline both with an affinity for wisdom cubes), pure,

The future, despite this, a successful timeline will not have a happy ending, unless immortality is in sight, the commander is just a human... are they?
A successful timeline shown to us had them in it, but perhaps this was just after the victory?
