@@reneebraxton1032 I'm glad to watch here on RUclips but I'd love to watch it on Cable. I was lucky enough to catch some of the family marathons on Decades a few years ago before they took it off my Cable line-up. Well, at least we have it here & on DVD. ☺️👍💯
I just watched this episode and frankly I am apalled at how horrible Kate’s family treated her. Sad sad sad. Honestly I’m in full tears at the outcome of this episode. Not only did Kate have to relive the death of her 10-year-old son, she had to suffer another loss of another child!
Kate always wore dresses for every occasion; and if you'll notice she always took her time making breakfast and dinner. Always cool, calm and collected. She was the closest to Buddy; and then Willy. She and Nancy butted heads, because Nancy was a bit self-absorbed. Nancy was closest to Doug. If this family had been real, I wonder if Willy would have ever found his professional niche, since he dropped out of high school to focus on his writing. I liked Willy, but I always though he was "flaky". I so wanted him to marry Selena McGhee, even after she had someone else's baby. They had chemistry on the show.
In real life, Sada Thompson was 53 years old when this episode aired. She’s a great actress, but as Kate, she looked way too old to supposedly be pregnant.
My second Great-Grandmother died pregnant in 1921, aged 60. She'd born 13 children (3 stillborn), including her youngest, my *Great-Grandfather b. 1906 when she was aged 44. *He had nieces & nephews older than himself & several siblings old enough to be his parents. 👍🏽💯🤔
The great depression and World war 2 generation had to grow up quickly. They had a lot to deal with that we don't have to these days. They had a lot of stress. Real stress not made up stress. By age 16 you were an adult and by age 40 you were set in your ways. And life expectancy at the time this was filmed was maybe 70.
Francois Billion Good point but today there are those who’ve had a great deal of stress & had to stay flexible (“sink or swim”) while many more mature individuals have had relatively easy lives comparatively due to a better economy & job market decades ago and are retired now (may have been for many years) & will likely grow to a very old age, outliving their children due to the stresses their children have faced in the last 20-30 years. Every generation has its own challenges I suppose.
@@lgempet2869 my friend, I must strongly disagree. In my estimation, the most stressful period in American history is when the country was being formed, when we were breaking away from England. We had real war and bloodshed on our soil. 16 year olds fighting in wars. The civil war was stressful but there were a lot of areas it didn't touch. In the 30s you had an industrialized economy with 20 to 25 percent unemployment with unemployment approaching 50 percent for some demographic groups. There was very little welfare. If we ever had a swim or sink economy it was then not now. And what was going on in Europe was scary as hell. Then we had Pearl harbor and WW2, at 18 you could be sent off to war. These days people demand to be kept as children, paid for by their fellow citizens until the age of at least 22 and stay on their parents health insurance until age 26. America in 2020 is a golden age that man has dreamt about for millennia only we don't appreciate it because we're living it. The so called poor live better than the king of England did a hundred years ago. They have cars, housing assistance, air conditioning, internet, food stamps. More opportunity to live long and happy lives. When Kate and Doug were kids life expectancy was 60, now it's closer to 80. I believe you have fallen victim to that human tendency to feel that the time in which they are living is the worst. I liberated my mind of that falsehood a long time ago when I started tuning out the television and internet news.
Francois Billion As I said, I agree w/you in seeing the big picture here so I’m not quibbling w/you on that. I also agree w/you on many of the younger generations who have had it easy but you’re also ignoring many in the older generations who have had it easy too & MANY HAVE. You’re also not taking into account those who must work until “forever,” can’t EVER retire & won’t abase themselves to take a handout from the government- not everyone is the same. For those who are working hard while enduring adverse circumstances, I’ll never go along w/disregarding their pain, no matter the age or generation....we’ll just have to “agree to disagree” on that.
At 3:37 the art teacher walking with Kate is the actress Susan Krebs. She also played the dying teacher Hazel Lamphere in The Walton's season 8 episode 16 "The Idol" (1/10/80). Both directed by Gwen Arner!
At 1:37 isn't Erica Faber's (Dominique Dunne) house previously Laura Richardson's (Kim Richards) in Season one? Later used as the Bradford house in Eight is Enough...
I haven't researched it, but it's entirely possible. Movie studios and production houses commonly recycle sets and props. The "Leave It to Beaver" houses (2 different ones) were used in other productions as well. Before "The Brady Bunch" ever went into production, the living room set was used in an episode of "Mission: Impossible."
@@XxowendanxX what do you have against Willie? I liked him. Sure he was a bit messed up in what he wanted to do in life. He could have gotten his GED and took writing classes in college. Didn't Doug tell Kate that when the baby is ten they'll be sixty? So she's fifty here. So if Nancy is 29 Kate would have had her at 21. She and Doug probably married at 19 or 20.
I'm surprised at Buddy!! You can't force somebody to have an abortion. I'm sure that must've hurt Kate very much. And that's her mother for goodness sakes!! That must've really hurt kate and it wasn't Buddy's decision anyway. Lot's of women have turned out babies in their early 40s and were just fine. Theres no guarantee that it's gonna kill you!! I think Buddy was being selfish in this case. She just didn't want that baby to get in her way, that's all. The rest of what she said was pure bull. i'll always Iove Buddy, but i feel she was wrong in this instance.
Buddy stated that she was scared for her mother's health. I disagree with Buddy but the m.o. of the scriptwriters of this show in many cases was to have one of the characters get into a funk over something and behave wrongly and irrationally. And then later in the episode, usually towards the very end, he or she would relent or recant, admit to being wrong or there would be found to be some perfectly understandable reason for the behavior.

R.I.P. Dominique Dunne.
Yes. Rest in peace Dominique Dunne. Talented actress. Very sad.
