I think its a bit deeper, Japanese business culture doesn't understand youtube and social media business opportunities... its not part of the Japanese business lexicon. Its a really complex and compounded one. Business traditional structure restricts innovation and promotion, the level of bureaucracy in corporate management where ever person needs to talk to their supervisor takes weeks, that risk aversion in decision making and publicity means they will shut down anything that even feels abnormal to them... and youtube and streamers are still abnormal to them. They don't think being a youtuber is even a career. They think its a hobby, hes only playing and talking about games, so they don't even see copyright striking a youtuber as being hurtful to Shesez business. How one part of their culture embraces technological convenience in the home and lifestyle... is a paradox to business technology. They still use fax machines, formally write emails, never send pdfs, and insist all business decisions are made face to face. Even websites for most of their business still look they stuck in the early 2000s. Nintendo Japan had a hard time understanding MMOs for a long time cause they didn't think people wanted to play with strangers, the idea of "parallel play" in japan is you don't play video games in an arcade with people... you play them next to people and don't talk to or share the experience, so the idea of a single person having 100k to millions of people watching them play a game is beyond their reality. Nintendo of America was the one that got them to relax their stance, and even then that still resulted in weird things like the Nintendo Partners program, or the time they invited RUclipsrs to E3 for the Switches release and the youtubers were really awkward off-screen checking for permission to film and post videos cause they expected to by copyrighted the second they uploaded anything.
Bad excuse. "bUt CuLtUrE..." no. We live in an inter connected world. Communication exists and no one should be stuck with their old ass outdated habits. Sticking to culture is barely ever positive and noone forces them to be like that. Well maybe their should update their knowledge about the world

The port isn’t piracy in and of itself, but it is piracy to download a compiled version (even if you own Mario 64, and even if it is completely impossible to obtain a legitimate copy, though basically no one will care about piracy if that’s the case). It is not piracy to download the tools to build it and supply a legally obtained rom (which is tricky to come by and impossible in some countries due to differing laws).
Flashback to 2013 when I made "let's play" videos of Super Mario 3D World and Mario Bros U. Nintendo was constantly up my A** claiming and blocking content...on a channel of less than 50 subscribers...run by a 13-year-old Mario super fan. I remember being so put out after editing a video for hours, exporting it, uploading it, only to have it claimed and blocked within seconds of posting. It took away the fun factor for me, to have all that hard work consistently go to waste, and be constantly worried Nintendo's gonna come after one of my videos. :( seems nothing has changed.
They remove all of these videos but yet every single week I see another ad for some random ass animal crossing website where yous sell animal crossing items for real money. @Cyber Console wolf Their ongoing Lawsuit against the Switch Hacking Kit is probably a larger factor in blocking this video than the engine. If the engine was really the point of contention all Nintendo focused Boundary Breaks would have been targeted.
No, Nintendo doesn’t ask that because they DON’T want people to play their games on RUclips. You were so close to having an epiphany and missed the mark by a mile...
Imagine how many billions Nintendo would have in the bank if they were as lenient with their characters being used like Valve is. How many millions of Gmod videos alone have been made with characters from Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 and Team Fortress 2? Literally sending millions of people out to play/buy these games, thus free advertisements for Valve. Who have to do nothing but sit back and make millions a month from free advertisements. Sure Nintendo has made BIG bank with things like the Switch this generation, but still.
I understand you, the reason why I even played TF2 was cause of all the GMODs/SFMs/Fan games, (I originally played TF2 cause of a fan game) And the GMODs and SFMs made me pay it. They should have been lenient.
i really wouldnt say billions, they probaly wouldve made more money but it wouldnt have been all peaches. nintendo isnt just a software company but also a hardware one. you do realise if they werent strict into modding that they possibly could have a lot of their games being pirated. its impossible for nintendo to do this stuff but for software companies its fine for them to let modders mod their games since they wont have to worry about piracy. it makes sense for the games you listed since 1. their are on pc and 2.they dont have to worry about piracy if you were talking about the videos however then yes they shouldve been more lenient to get more free advertisemants. if yout talking bout fangames then that is more of a grey area. if the fangame portrays mario in a bad light then morally and legally it is fine. also if they are paid fangames then nintnendo has all the rights to say no to that fangame since they are making money of their property. however if it is a good game and is free then i feel like it should be allowed for them to make them. this took way too long to write. if you have any counter arguemants then tell me

@@Yolwoocle Actually yes, Fan game bad. Allowing Fan games to be released makes it harder for Nintendo to defend their Copyright should they ever find themselves in a actual Copyright Lawsuit. When it comes to the law it's better to have one clear policy that you act in accordance with, once you start to explain why this fan game was okay and this fan game isn't you loose ground to stand on. Of course the simple loophole there is to keep your fan game in Beta instead of saying it's finished and released.
@@Akazury Don't pretend that it's just about "protecting copyright"... It's always been about money. They hate anything that doesn't make them money. That's why they shut down fan-made games that really good and popular, they don't want their own fan community to make a better product. Even projects where the creator is really open and cooperative, willing to hand over to project to Nintendo, so they can see how it was made.. Nope, immediately shutdown. They're very prideful and stubborn that only they are allowed to make those games, anything else is treated as trash. The point is... lots of companies will allow fan-made games. Sega, for example, are really cool about fan-made content. Doesn't even matter that Nintendo owns them, Sega is allowed to decide how their copyright is treated, and they chose to be good to their fans and not makes copyright strikes. Doesn't seem to bother their sales at all, they still make tons of cash. Then you factor in the free publicity through RUclips and Twitch channels... Nintendo could be a lot smarter about their ruthless nature for copyrights. But they remain a company run by stuffy old businessmen, at least on the corporate side.
Sonic Mania wouldn't exist without fan games. Fan games are a way of promoting the original IP and showing the original company what a fan wishes what they would do
Flashbacks to 2015 when I was a huge fan of Mario. I literally had all plushies merchandise and made countless fan arts for Nintendo. So I decided to make a short 30-50 second short Mario montage. But Nintendo kept blocking my videos. And Nintendo ruined my gameplays by making the screen zoom countless times on important clips. I just wanted to become a RUclipsr but Nintendo just shattered and destroyed that dream.
honestly, i can see this from Nintendo's side. Hew Horizons is one of their BIGGEST successes in recent years, having a video that shows people how to get into places not intended can lead to issues. the two main things i can think of are: 1, people could take the video out of context and attack the game, saying it's bad and broken, which could affect sales if enough influence is put on it. 2, someone could use these glitches to potentially make a game breaking bug, or a glitch that can negatively affect how people play the game, with it being an online multiplayer game and all. Sure, that was never the intention of the video, but people are real crafty nowadays. who knows what kind of stuff people could pull. those are my theories at least.
Nintendo is also currently in a Law Suit against a specific team of modders that are attempting to sell hacking kits, which is something that really flared up this past month. So that also has a lot to do with it.
And I think they are still very wary of seeing another crash in the console market like the 80s had. This time they have skin in the game, and want to ensure that if the revolution comes, they are the ones left standing.
As I've said in other comments, I think it was something innocent, to the general public, that was shown that in reality could be a dev room. I have no proof obviously, it's just my theory as to why only the 1 game was struck when the rest of the series' Nintendo titles remained free.
Allowing mobbing in school > dumb. Nintendo restricting weird videos for their own copyrighted content > not dumb. People should learn that not every rule is bad.
Nintendo: "We want to make sure that content is representative of the franchise!" Literally everyone else: Then why the THWOMP aren't you doing anything about PETA?
Nah, RUclips videos that they think destroy their image or the game's image. For example, let's plays, walkthroughs, reviews, and comedy videos about Nintendo are all still there.

Nintendo has grown so big, the entire organization has to make very cautious approaches to keep their companies at its optimal state, forcing them to stay in their comfort zone more and more to minimize the potential risks as much as possible. Nintendo isn't actually mean, they are just afraid of any unpredictable consquences that they might encounter that can hurt the organization if the public does something Nintendon't normally allow them to do.
RUclips video: Exists Nintendo: Hey that's copywritten music! You have to take that down! Fans: So you'll provide a product so we can listen to, download, and outright pay for your music. Nintendo: No.
If someone actually took Nintendo to court, they would see that Nintendo doesn't have as much power as they think, but none of that matters and changes are coming to law and copyright soon enough...
1:20 Mario: If there's even a 1% chance that a RUclips video might lose us a sale, then we have to take that as an absolute certainty! Sonic: They, are not our enemies.
I think Shesez's video was removed because one clip showed the Villager's model without the clothing layer to show that the developers had a censorship built in over the Villager's "private areas" as a safety measure. Some intern may have gotten the wrong idea, and saw this as detrimental to Nintendo's family-friendly nature
I read Nintendo Copyright FAQ and it says that downloading ROMs from the internet is illegal. I don’t know if I will upload videos of Nintendo gameplays.
Some friendly advice for Nintendo: Looking at out of bounds content is fun and helps us learn more about the game. It would actually benefit the game as it engages the player to look and ponder about game design and what goes into it.
The video game industry thinking that it still owns your copy of the game after you've bought it is one of the biggest mistakes that industry continues to make.

Kyoto geezers are to blame for this.
They still behave like dicks to their fans. Traditions don't make any difference to that IMO.
Bad excuse. "bUt CuLtUrE..." no. We live in an inter connected world. Communication exists and no one should be stuck with their old ass outdated habits. Sticking to culture is barely ever positive and noone forces them to be like that. Well maybe their should update their knowledge about the world
Snaps you don’t understand Japanese business then. I mean talking in a business way in Japanese can be considered its own language since it has so many different rule then causal speaking.
@@goldengamer2045 Saying Japanese business does not understand social media is... Really far-fetched at best. While there are many that don't, you'll see a LOT promoting fan creations on Twitter and sometimes Instagram. And devs will sometimes livestream, in a more casual way but similar to how Nintendo does directs. It's generally western social media they don't understand that well. Because Japan still doesn't really connect with the "outside world" that much.

@@SnesySnas As stated in the video, Nintendo has every legal right to do so. Kinda like AM2R, they left the project up all the way until they were gonna announce Samus Returns. Too bad it had the shittiest timing in my personal opinion, since the game had JUST finished and boom. Papa Nintendo says to take it down when they had YEARS to do so beforehand.

They should have been lenient.
i really wouldnt say billions, they probaly wouldve made more money but it wouldnt have been all peaches. nintendo isnt just a software company but also a hardware one. you do realise if they werent strict into modding that they possibly could have a lot of their games being pirated. its impossible for nintendo to do this stuff but for software companies its fine for them to let modders mod their games since they wont have to worry about piracy. it makes sense for the games you listed since 1. their are on pc and 2.they dont have to worry about piracy
if you were talking about the videos however then yes they shouldve been more lenient to get more free advertisemants. if yout talking bout fangames then that is more of a grey area. if the fangame portrays mario in a bad light then morally and legally it is fine. also if they are paid fangames then nintnendo has all the rights to say no to that fangame since they are making money of their property. however if it is a good game and is free then i feel like it should be allowed for them to make them.
this took way too long to write. if you have any counter arguemants then tell me

It's not EVERY FAN GAME!!!
Fan games are a way of promoting the original IP and showing the original company what a fan wishes what they would do
Nintendo are old school and while sometimes that’s a good thing, in this case that’s a very bad thing
Shesez had a disclaimer in the beginning that said he is not showing you HOW to do it. He's just showcasing things out of bounds.
