One of my struggle used to be serve receive! But After learning these from Brandon at Camp in FL, my serve receive improved 1000%! My body movement got much simpler, calmer, and I’m giving decent passes 90% of time (used to be less than 40-50%)!! 🙏
thank you very much for this video🐐 started playing volleyball for 4 months now but I really had problems with passing. this video taught me how important footwork and angle of the platform really are in passing.
Wow, my form is wrong roughly 100% of the time 😂 But this video and our classes together will no doubt correct it! I love the visual of tilting our shoulders to create a launch platform - this is so cool!
Dude, this was friggin' amazing. I'm totally the target for this video. I decided to take two things and try to apply it. I chose to try and concentrate on keeping my shoulders square to the net and angle my shoulders to direct the ball. I almost instantly started getting some of the best passes I've ever done. Thanks for the great tips!
I grew up playing volleyball, and none of my coaches in all those years explained proper passing technique as well as you guys just did in this one short video. Thank you for sharing these game-changing tips!!
@@betteratbeachvolleyball I’m now in your Better at Beach online program. Watching this video completely changed my defense and bump sets just this week, so signing up was a no brainer. 🙌🏼
This is going to be covered in our video next week. The quick answer is your platform has to get set quick and allow the ball to do the work. This means you can’t swing.
yall are mind readers played this weekend and my passes were off then you come out with this video! #twilightzone thanks for the tips! Awesome video as always

Really like the video! Would love to hear some tips on being light and fast on the feet during serve receive and defense :) At least I often have feeling of being late and reacting too slow
very useful. all three items are good to know. I was having problem with no1 item and had no idea about the other two 🤣🤣🤣 esp no3 is something I hear the very first time 😁🤓 thank you man 🙏🙏🙏
A coach I greatly respect suggested I put backspin in my pass to the setter and I’m struggling with whether I want to junk my perfect (IMO) pass for a backspin pass which may or may not even be that helpful.
Yes, some people believe putting backspin on a pass makes it easier to set! You'd want to make sure that you weren't changing good passing mechanics, bending elbows or pulling the pass off the net trying to put backspin on it. It might mess with your passing, plus a good setter should be able to set a good pass with any or no amount of spin. But if you try it and it works better for you, why not🤷♀️
Love this channel so much! Such an understandable and easy way how to describe all of these basics! Exactly what I need as a self taught. Now I see how many things I do uncorrectly and why my play i so uneven. Thank you guys!
Thanks! Have you thought about jumping into our Serve Receive.Training? Pass with Confidence and Consistency: The Serve Receive Master Class ... It's one of 12 programs in our Membership and it comes with Live video coaching so we can actually watch and fix your technique!!! It's an absolute game changer! What if the return has to be done above the shoulders? How should one set their hands? Do you make a fist and club it back or can you have hands open when receiving the first hit?
I'm going to work on these things in my volleyball gameplay. I was wondering if anybody would happen to know a likely cause of the biggest issue I have with receiving and passing. Wether it's an overhand or underhand pass/receive, my passes typically go just past the net, where an opponent could try to hit it, or our setter can't get it. This is one of the most frustrating things, and I want to address this issue in particular before anything else. If I could properly pass without the ball going too deep (but deep enough), I feel my gameplay would jump up a complete level!
It's not a rule that you have to receive the serve in this exact position! However, this has been proven to be the best, most repeatable and consistently successful technique of receiving the serve :)
Any tips/help for people that come from a weight lifting background and due to size or lack of mobility, can not get their elbows together to create a flat platform? My platform is more wedge shaped instead of flat, therefore the ball contact has to be precisely in the middle of the wedge, if not, it is going to hit one side of the wedge, bounce to the other side, and the ball is not going to go where I want it to. Needless, to say, this leads to much frustration.
Hi, great question! Unfortunately, there's not much to do about getting around needing strength, speed and mobility in order to play beach volleyball. But there is a lot you can do to increase your mobility! Our 60-Day Max Vertical Program is designed to increase strength, speed and MOBILITY for volleyball athletes specifically - 9 weeks with us and I'll equip you with all of the fitness knowledge and programming you need for everything volleyball. Check out the program in detail here: www.betteratbeach.com/60DayMaxVerticalJump!
I have veiny arms, every time i pass the ball with the point of contact slightly above where you watch a watch, it hits a vein and it hurts. Any tips around this?
Dang this is something I've been doing wrong for a while and I noticed that when my platform isn't squared and I have to hit an outside ball, my arms almost always bend inward, which results in a bad pass, and the ball just ricochets and goes out of bounds. Thanks!
I have trouble getting into position and deciding if I am bumping or hitting with hands above my head. The serves sometimes come in so quickly and they curve or shimmy that I don't have a lot of time to adjust.
So when we dig do we hit the vball with the the bony part of the forearm with our elbows pointing sideways or do we try and make the vball hit the flat part of the forearm with our elbows pointing straight down?
Glad we could show you something new and helpful!! If you want to learn EVEN MORE about passing, check out our Passing and Serve Receive Master Class: www.betteratbeach.com/howtopassinvolleyball included in our Online Coaching Program :)
I've been making that mistake for a long time. Because I do not know where to go and how to do it. I hope this video help me how to fix that problem. Thank you so much!! (:

Thanks, I needed a good recap after all the tips I've been hearing about passing
Okey, I'm trying it on my next practise. I'll say if anything has changed!
A coach I greatly respect suggested I put backspin in my pass to the setter and I’m struggling with whether I want to junk my perfect (IMO) pass for a backspin pass which may or may not even be that helpful.

It might mess with your passing, plus a good setter should be able to set a good pass with any or no amount of spin. But if you try it and it works better for you, why not🤷♀️
I was actually taught that a perfect pass has no spin… it would be easier to set cleanly for your teammate
